Fantasy Football Injury News: Week 5 Outlook on Ailing Players
October 4, 2014
It’s Saturday, and that means it’s time once again to check in on some of the injured fantasy football players out there to see what we can be expecting from our lineups in Week 5. There’s no shortage of names to examine, so let’s see who’s making headlines with their injuries today.
Calvin Johnson owners got a bit of a shock yesterday when word broke that coach Jim Caldwell was leaving the possibility open that his star WR wouldn’t be playing on Sunday. He’s questionable and was limited in practice yesterday.
Johnson has been hobbled by an ankle injury, and it sounds like there’s a pretty good chance he won’t be able to take the field. That said, owners will want to monitor the situation to make sure. If he’s playing, he should be in your lineup.

Redskins TE Niles Paul has gotten all the way through the league’s concussion protocol and got in a full day of practice yesterday.
Paul doesn’t play until Monday, and we’ll have to wait a little while for the official report, but it sounds like he’s got a great chance at taking the field.
Back to the Lions: WR Golden Tate is tagged as probable for tomorrow thanks to a hamstring injury. He was limited in practice Thursday and yesterday, however.
Lions RB Joique Bell has been officially ruled out for tomorrow, which is good news for Reggie Bush owners. Bell is getting over a concussion.
There’s a big mess in the Cleveland backfield this season fantasy-wise, and it’s not getting much clearer over the past couple of days. Though Ben Tate is officially tagged as probable for Tennessee tomorrow, he’s going to “test” his knee today and see if it shows signs of swelling.
That makes it sound like there’s still some doubt surrounding Tate’s condition. Fantasy owners should monitor the situation closely.
Rams WR Tavon Austin has been tagged as questionable for tomorrow. He’s dealing with a knee injury. The good news here is that he’s had a couple of weeks to rest, as the team is coming off a bye. He got in limited practice work all week.
The Texans’ Andre Johnson sat out of practice yesterday due to an ankle injury. He’s been tagged as questionable heading into the matchup against Dallas.
The general expectation here is that Johnson should be able to play, but as always with questionable players, you’ll want to keep a close eye on him up until kickoff.
San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis also sat out practice yesterday, marking the third straight day he’s missed.
Barring some sort of miracle recovery, it’s looking like Davis will be out for this week against the Chiefs. This marks a continuation of what’s been a frustrating season for him so far.
