Fantasy Football 2014: Week 14 Waiver Wire Update
Taking a Look at the Week 14 Waiver Wire Trends
December 2, 2014
It’s Tuesday, and around here that means it’s time once again to visit the fantasy football waiver wire and see which players are trending out there. This will be the Week 14 edition of this column, and in many leagues it’s time for the all-important playoffs--meaning every move is that much more crucial. Let’s take a closer look at the numbers and see if anyone’s worth picking up right now.
Jordan Reed, TE, Washington Redskins: In the thin TE market, anytime a player does well it’s fodder for major attention. Reed is coming off a nice showing at Indianapolis, catching nine of his 11 targets for 123 yards.
Reed and Colt McCoy seem to have nice chemistry together, making Reed a fine pickup now that he’s (finally) fully healthy. He does get kind of a “blah” matchup against the Rams this week, though.

Minnesota Vikings Defense: Those fantasy owners who are stringing defenses this season will want to look at Minnesota this week. They’re going up against the lowly Jets offense, and considering the week they had against Carolina (four sacks; two touchdowns; interception), they’re on the radar.
Down the stretch, the Vikes will get Detroit, Miami, and Chicago.
Johnny Manziel, QB, Cleveland Browns: We can’t leave out Johnny Football this week. It seems the Manziel era has arrived in Cleveland, as the highly controversial QB took over in the fourth for an ineffective Brian Hoyer and proceeded to complete 5 of 8 passes and rush for a TD.
As long as the Browns coaching staff doesn’t reinstall Hoyer, Manziel will get a couple of decent matchups down the stretch. He’ll see the Colts this week, then the Bengals, Panthers and Ravens.
Donte Moncrief, WR, Indianapolis Colts: Moncrief had a monster game against the Redskins, coming from out of nowhere to log three grabs for 134 yards and two touchdowns in the rout. Over the previous three weeks, he’d had a high of 4.2 fantasy points.
Here’s the scenario this week that’s got some owners salivating over Moncrief: the Colts will see the Browns, who boast stellar corner Joe Haden. If Haden sticks on T.Y. Hilton all game, Moncrief should see some windows and some extra targets. Food for thought.
Andre Williams, RB, New York Giants: Besides the Colts’ Dan Herron, the hottest RB on the wire right now is Williams. That’s not necessarily due to anything he did on the field, but more a reflection of the injury sustained to starting Giants running back Rashad Jennings (ankle).
If Jennings can’t go against the Titans this week, it’ll be Williams’ load to carry. His past numbers don’t instill a ton of confidence, but he’s all the Giants have so they’ll need to make it work.
