Fantasy Football 2014: Week 17 Start/Sit
Who to Start and Who to Sit in Fantasy Football Week 17
December 25, 2014
We’re heading into Week 17 in the NFL, and that means it’s championship time in a lot of leagues out there. It’s also Thursday, so that means it’s time for our weekly Start-Sit recommendations. Here’s a closer look at this week’s crop, so let’s see which players are trending.
USA TODAY Sports
Ryan Tannehill, QB, Miami Dolphins: The enigma that is Ryan Tannehill has been in full effect recently. He has been up-and-down for fantasy owners who have gone out on a limb to trust him, but this week against the Jets should be one of the better outings he has. New York will be phoning it in on the road, thinking about all their off-season plans, and Tannehill should be able to come through here.
Jonathan Stewart, RB, Carolina Panthers: Stewart has really come on in recent weeks, excelling in the feature-back role in Carolina. He has 437 yards on the ground with a pair of touchdowns in his past four outings.
Stewart will get a nice matchup as the Panthers battle the Falcons for the division title this weekend, so keep him in your lineups.
Mike Wallace, WR, New York Jets: Let’s go back to that Dolphins-Jets matchup for a moment and check out Wallace. He’s been great for owners in recent weeks, posting three touchdowns in his last two outings.
Even better, the Jets are absolutely horrid against opposing wide receivers, so that gets Wallace a big thumbs-up this weekend.
Tony Romo, QB, Dallas Cowboys: This matchup against the Redskins is a tough one for owners of Cowboys players. Dallas really doesn’t have a whole lot to gain by playing their starters for a whole game and trying to gut out a win, so you’ll likely see the key guys getting pulled early. That includes Romo, which is unfortunate since this is a nice matchup otherwise.
Isaiah Crowell, RB, Cleveland Browns: That’s it. We’re finally pulling the plug on Crowell. He’s been a significant disappointment over the last couple of weeks (along with the whole Browns offense) after initially showing some signs of being a legitimate fantasy stud. He’ll get the Ravens this weekend, which is a bad matchup for him.
Sammy Watkins, WR, Buffalo Bills: Let’s head back to the AFC East to check out Watkins, who will finish things up against the Patriots on Sunday. He’ll be matched up against the stingy Darrelle Revis this week, which is bad news for those owners looking to rely on him. Watkins did very little the last time these two teams met, so keep that in mind.
