Fantasy Basketball 2014-15: Waiver Wire Update 2/9
Fantasy Basketball Daily Leagues: Waiver Wire Picks and Advice for Upcoming Matchups
February 9, 2015
It’s been a very busy weekend of NBA basketball, and with all that activity comes plenty of fantasy basketball consideration. With that in mind, let’s take our weekly look at some of the popular waiver wire pickups right now and see if any of the trending names are right for your roster.
Jason Smith, PF/C, New York Knicks: Smith has been pretty productive on certain nights this season, and Saturday against the Warriors was one of the best examples. He posted 14 points and 13 rebounds with three assists in the loss, giving him two of three double-digit scoring outings recently.
Smith’s value hinges very much on Carmelo Anthony. When Anthony is out, Smith will get a boost in stats. You might want to pick him up now before the inevitable shutdown after the All-Star break.

Robert Covington, SG/SF/PF, Philadelphia 76ers: If Covington is still out there in your league, stop reading this and go pick him up immediately. He was excellent from long-range in the win over Charlotte, posting five 3-pointers, 22 points, eight rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block.
Covington can be a big-time scorer when he’s hot, and he’s also pretty good at trickling in other stats. He’s your guy right now if you need threes.
James Johnson, SF/PF, Toronto Raptors: Johnson is one of the big prizes off the waiver wire this morning, as he’s coming off a productive game against the Spurs yesterday. He put up 20 points and four rebounds in his first start, helping Toronto to a win.
Johnson is a capable player who can put up numbers like this on a consistent basis if he remains in the starting lineup. He’s a gotta-have guy at the moment in fantasy.
Gerald Henderson, SG/SF, Charlotte Hornets: Henderson has been the model of consistency lately, and that trend continued against the Pacers yesterday. He put up 13 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, his second straight game with at least five in three categories.
Henderson didn’t shoot very well yesterday, but he made up for it at the line. That’s reassuring. He’s one of the prime pickups on the wire right now.
Jordan Clarkson, PG, Los Angeles Lakers: Let’s finish up with Clarkson today, as he’s one of the trendiest adds out there right now. He’s coming off 20 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals in Cleveland, giving him five double-digit points outings in his last six appearances.
Clarkson is a nice source of steals and free-throw percentage, so as long as he’s hovering in the starting lineup he should be doing the same in your fantasy roster.
