Fantasy Baseball Update 4/9/15: Key Matchups This Weekend
Fantasy Baseball 2015: Weekend Waiver Wire Pickups
April 9, 2015
It’s the first Thursday of the 2015 fantasy baseball season, and that means it’s time to start looking forward to our first full weekend of action. With that in mind, let’s head to the waiver wire and check out some of the trending players who look like good pickups for the weekend games.
Jake Lamb, 3B, Arizona Diamondbacks: In the early days of the season, Lamb looks like a great pickup for those who need help at the hot corner. In his first two games, he posted seven RBI and a homer on two hits. He logged an 0-fer yesterday, though.
Lamb can be a legitimate fantasy force this season, so you’ll definitely want to pick him up where he’s available. He’ll see the Dodgers at home starting tomorrow.

C.J. Wilson, SP, Los Angeles Angels: Wilson quieted any concerns in his opening start, tossing just 96 pitches in an eight-inning, two-hit performance in Seattle. He walked just one batter on the day and struck out two.
Wilson will finish off a home-stand against the Royals with his next start on Sunday. He’s definitely a guy you want to grab if he’s available out there in your league.
Clay Buchholz, SP, Boston Red Sox: Also logging a stellar outing in his first appearance this year was Buchholz. He got through seven innings of three-hit ball, striking out nine and walking just one.
Buchholz wasn’t giving fantasy owners much confidence after a shoddy 2014, but this performance should get him trending again. He’ll be at Yankee Stadium on Saturday for his second start.
Steve Pearce, 1B/OF, Baltimore Orioles: We talked about Pearce quite a bit last year, and he’s getting the buzz going early this week. In his first two appearances of the year, he posted three hits, four runs, two homers and three RBI. He came up empty yesterday, however.
Pearce is off to a nice start and is out to prove that 2014 wasn’t an aberration. It’s time you gave him the benefit of the doubt and picked him up.
Stephen Vogt, C/1B/OF, Oakland Athletics: Let’s finish up today with a utility guy in Vogt. He posted three hits, two runs, a homer and three RBI in his first two games alone.
Vogt goes into 2015 as the A’s full-time backstop, and he should hit well enough to keep the job. In fantasy, he’s a versatile pickup with his multi-positional eligibility. He’ll host the Mariners this weekend.
