Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – 4/26

  • High Cost – Lance Lynn  – St. Louis Cardinals

In 2014, Lance Lynn had a career year posting a 15-10 record with an impressive 2.74 ERA and 8.0 K/9. Lynn has started off 2015 strong posting a 1.56 ERA while striking out 20 batters in 17.1 IP. Lynn relies heavily on his fastball as he threw it a league leading 80% of the time in 2014 and depends on his pin-point control for his success. With a favorable matchup against a Brewers team that has struggled all year offensive and is ranked 5th in MLB in strikeouts, Lynn is a strong option for Sunday.

  • Value Pick – Drew Pomeranz – Oakland Athletics

Drew Pomeranz has a decent 2014 season when he got called up to the big club as he posted a 5-4 record in 20 games (10 starts) and posted a 2.35 ERA and 8.3 K/9. After earning a spot in the rotation in 2015, Pomeranz has struggled a bit as he currently is 1-2 with a 4.24 ERA. Pomeranz gave up 4 earned runs against the Astros in his first outing of the season, however, he has the ability to throw a gem as he did in his first start of the season against Seattle (7.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 6 K’s) and as he has recorded at least 5 K’s in every outing this season, he has a potential to be a quality value pick on Sunday.

  • High Cost – Derek Norris  – San Diego Padres

Derek Norris got the day off on Thursday, so I expect to be in the starting line up in this one and he is hitting .328 on the season and .478 with 5 doubles and 4 RBI’s over his last 7 games, he is a solid pick for Saturday. The Padres will be facing off against Joe Wieland who been battling back from Tommy John Surgery he had in 2012. Wieland was in the Padres organization before being traded to the Dodgers this past December and between the fact that he did get hit hard in a few games late year and for the Padres should have a decent scouting report on him, make the Padres and Norris a good pick on Sunday.

  • Value Pick –  Miguel Montero – Chicago Cubs

Similar to Derek Norris, Montero got a day late during the week (Friday) so I do expect him to be behind the plate on Sunday. Montero is starting to show some of the power that we know he has as over his past 7 games he has hit 2 home runs while batting .267. Montero will be going against veteran Jason Marquis in which he has posted a lifetime .318 average with 4 homeruns and 11 RBI’s. The Cubs as a team have hit Marquis hard as the current roster has a .328 average against the righty, so there is a good chance Montero will have some runners on base when he gets up to the plate.

First Base

  • High Cost – Adrian Gonzalez – Los Angeles Dodgers

Adrian Gonzalez is one of the few players that have some experience against Brandon Morrow of the San Diego Padres as he has posted a lifetime .357 average with 2 doubles and 3 RBI’s against the righty. Gonzalez has slowed down a bit from his great start as he is hitting just .136 in the last 7 days, however, he still is hitting over .400 on the season and as all six of his homeruns have come against right-handed pitching, I’m sticking with him for the second straight day as my high cost pick.

  • Value Pick – Kendrys Morales  – Kansas City Royals

Kendrys Morales has been producing for the Kansas City Royals in 2015 as he is currently hitting .319 on the season and as of Saturday as recorded a hit in 8 of his last 9 games. Morales should be battling from the left side of the plate on Sunday which he is hitting .342 on the season and his had success against Hector Noesi of the White Sox as in his career, Morales is hitting .400 (4-10) with 2 homeruns and 4 RBI’s.

Second Base

  • High Cost – Brian Dozier – Minnesota Twins

Brian Dozier is off to a slow start in 2015 posting just a .200 average with a home run and 7 RBI’s. Dozier will try to break out of his early season slump against Roenis Elias of the Seattle Mariners , who is making his first start of the season. Dozier has posted a career .800 average (4-5) with 2 doubles, a homerun and 3 RBI’s against Elias. The majority of Dozier’s struggles have come against righties this season as he has posted a respectable .286 average against lefties in 2015.

  • Value Pick – Logan Forsythe – Tampa Bay Rays

Logan Forsythe is a good value pick for Sunday as he is hitting a decent .278 in 2015 and has hit 2 homeruns and driven in 8 RBI’s. For the fact alone that Forsythe has the ability to knock them out of the ball park is always something nice to have when looking for a value pick but Forsythe has also hit very well against Toronto’s Mark Buehrle as he has posted a .421 average (8-19) with 3 doubles.

  • High Cost –  Jose Reyes  – Toronto Blue Jays

I’m going to stay in Tampa Bay and roll with Jose Reyes has my high cost pick at shortstop on Sunday. Reyes draws a tough matchup against the Rays Chris Archer, however, he has posted a .429 (9 for 21) with 3 BB’s, a triple, and 2 RBI’s against Archer.  Reyes has struggled since returning from his injury that caused him to miss a few games earlier this year, however he did hit .321 at Tropicana Field in 2014 and feel that he is due to a multi-hit game.

  • Value Pick – Everth Cabrera – Baltimore Orioles

Everth Cabrera has had great success against Wade Miley of the Boston Red Sox as he has posted a career .476 average (10-21) with a double, triple, homerun and 3 RBI’s. Cabrera has some speed and both of his SB’s on the season have come against the Red Sox.  Cabrera is batting .292 at Camden Yards on the season.

Third Base

  • High Cost – Adrian Beltre – Texas Rangers

Adrian Beltre has struggled so far in 2015 as has posted just a .175 average, however, was 2 for 3 with a homerun this past Wednesday that hopefully will get the veteran third basemen going. Beltre will be facing Hector Santiago on Sunday in which he has posted a career .353 (6-17) average with 3 homeruns and 3 RBI’s. Over the last three seasons, Beltre has hit .313 against left handed pitching.

  • Value Pick – Cody Asche – Philadelphia Phillies

Cody Asche currently is riding a 7 game hitting streak and is hitting an impressive .327 on the season and .345 at Citizens Bank Park. Asche doesn’t have much experience against Trevor Cahill of the Braves, however, he is 1 for 1 with a BB, double, and 2 RBI’s. Asche does have some power and at the price he is still at, is a popular value pick at the hot corner.

  • High Cost – Hanley Ramirez – Boston Red Sox

Hanley Ramirez has had a great start with the Red Sox as he already has hit 6 homeruns and collected 13 RBI’s in 2015. Ramirez is hitting .304 with 2 homeruns over the last 7 days and is hitting .333 away from Fenway Park so far this season. Ramirez has a career .500 average with a double, homerun and 3 RBI’s against Baltimore’s Bud Norris.

  • High Cost – Matt Kemp  – San Diego Padres

As I mentioned in my description for Derek Norris, the Padres have a very favorable matchup against the Dodgers Joe Wieland this Sunday. Matt Kemp is hitting .342 on the season and .357 with a homerun and 7 RBI’s in the past 7 days. Kemp is the only one in the Padres lineup that has seen Wieland and in the three plate appearances he has had, he has taken Wieland deep twice. Get Kemp in your lineups on Sunday.

  • Value Pick – Gerardo Parra – Milwaukee Brewers

I do like Lance Lynn in his matchup against the Brewers this Sunday, but it’s hard to take Gerardo Parra based of the success he has had against Lynn throughout his career.  In 19 plate appearances against Lynn, Gerardo Parra is hitting .474 with 3 doubles, 2 triples and 2 homeruns. Parra is only hitting .154 on the season and is just 1 for his last 16 but as I said, on the success he has had against Lynn alone plus the price you can get him for, makes him a decent value pick for Sunday.

  • Value Pick – Allen Craig  – Boston Red Sox

Allen Craig has been getting most of his game action on Sundays and with his success against Bud Norris, I expect Craig to get some playing time on Sunday. Craig is hitting .400 (8-20) against Baltimore’s Bud Norris with 2 homeruns and 7 RBI’s. Craig certainly has the power to hit the long ball and for the cheap price, if he gets the start, is a nice value play on Sunday.
