Please remember to check the line-ups prior to the game and the weather reports to ensure you have a full roster of active players.
USA TODAY Sports
- High Cost – Felix Hernandez – Seattle Mariners
Felix Hernandez is once again off to another dominant season as he is currently 3-0 in 2015 with a 1.61 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and has 32 strikeouts in 28.0 IP. King Felix is always a solid play if you can afford him but he might be worth the extra money on Thursday after his recent performance against Texas on April 18th, where he went 7.0 innings giving up 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 12. Hernandez is currently holding the Rangers roster to a .235 batting average.
- Value Pick – Ubaldo Jimenez – Baltimore Orioles
Ubaldo Jimenez is a cheap option for the early leagues on Thursday, and if you’re looking to save money he is certainly a decent option. Jimenez has displayed in the past that he can be a leading pitching for a squad and has gotten off to a good 2015 as he is currently 1-1 with a 2.30 ERA and 0.89 WHIP. Jimenez has posted 16 strikeouts in 15.2 innings pitch this season and although the Jimenez hasn’t had much success against the White Sox in the past, I think for the price he is a good value pick on Thursday.
- High Cost – Derek Norris – San Diego Padres
I’m going to go with Derek Norris as my “high cost” catcher on Thursday as he had a great beginning to his career in San Diego and has had success against Houston’s Dallas Keuchel. Norris is hitting .316 on the season and .304 in his last 7 days while posting a career .286 average with a homerun and 3 RBI’s against Keuchel. Norris has crushed left-handed pitching on the year posting a .647 (11-17) average with 5 doubles and 4 RBI’s.
- Value Pick – Yasmani Grandal – Los Angeles Dodgers
As A.J. Ellis got the start for the Dodgers last night to catch for Kershaw, I expect Grandal to be in the line-up tonight and I think he has some good value as Grandal and the Dodgers have a favorable matchup against the Giants and Ryan Vogelsong. Grandal is only hitting .196 on the season, but does have two multi-hit games in the last 4 games he started and does have the power (hit 15 HR’s in 2014) to get us some doubles or homeruns. The Dodgers have hit .293 against Ryan Vogelsong and feel that Grandal might come up with some RISP on Thursday.
- High Cost – Miguel Cabrera – Los Angeles Angels
Miguel Cabrera is hitting a stellar .355 on the season and although he is only hitting .273 over the past week, he is a safe option at first base on Wednesday as he has absolutely owned Minnesota’s Phil Hughes in his career. Cabrera has posted a .471 (16-34) average with 5 homeruns and 12 RBI’s against Hughes and is hitting .393 against right-handed pitching so far in 2015.
- Value Pick – Eric Hosmer – Kansas City Royals
Eric Hosmer is hitting .320 over the past week and has a solid .316 average with a homerun and 11 RBI’s so far in 2015. Hosmer will be going against Danny Salazar of the Cleveland Indians this Wednesday and has posted a .556 (5-9) average with 3 doubles against Salazar in his career. Hosmer is also batting .405 against right-handed pitching this season.
- High Cost – Daniel Murphy – New York Mets
Daniel Murphy is off to a slow start to 2015 as he is only hitting .205, but he has been on tear as late hitting .333 with a homerun and 9 RBI’s over the past week. Murphy has a favorable matchup against Mat Latos as he has posted a career .353 average with two doubles against the veteran righty. Latos has really struggled so far this year and I’m hoping this trend continues against the Mets on Wednesday.
- Value Pick – Alexander Guerrero – Los Angeles Dodgers
I’m going with Alexander Guerrero as my value pick at second base as although he has been getting some starts in the OF, he is still listed a 2B in most fantasy formats. Guerrero is hitting .500 (5-10) over the past week in limited playing time, however, I think he could still see a start in this one as he is 1 for 2 with a home run against Ryan Vogelsong. It will be worth double checking to ensure he gets the start tonight, but if he does, I think he is good value pick as he has shown he can hit for power with his 5 homeruns so far in 2015.
- High Cost – Xavier Bogaerts – Boston Red Sox
I’m going to go with Xavier Bogaerts today as my “high cost” shortstop as I hoping that Boston will be able to jump all over a struggling R.A. Dickey on Wednesday. Boston didn’t fare well against R.A. Dickey in 2014, however, they do have a .266 average against him as a team, and the majority of the roster that will get the start today have lifetime averages around .300 against Dickey. Individually, Bogaerts has posted a .545 average with two doubles against Dickey and has actually done better against right-handed pitching posting a .278 average with a homerun and 10 RBI’s so far in 2015.
- Value Pick – Johnny Peralta – St. Louis Cardinals
I’m going to St. Louis for my value pick at shortstop today, as Johnny Peralta has had good success against the veteran righty, Aaron Harang of the Philadelphia Phillies. Peralta has a career average of .333 with two homeruns against Harang and has been hot as of late, hitting .370 over the past week. Similar to Bogaerts, Peralta actually has fared better against right-handed pitching as he has posted a .339 average so far in 2015.
- High Cost – Matt Carpenter – St. Louis Cardinals
Matt Carpenter has continued his hot start in 2015 as he collected another two hits with a homerun last night against the Phillies. Carpenter is hitting .380 on the season and has 12 multi-hit games in his last 15 contests. Carpenter will be facing Aaron Harang in which he has a career .400 average (2 for 5) with a double and two RBI’s against. All three of Carpenters homeruns in 2015 have come against righties and I’m hoping for another on Wednesday.
- Value Pick – Juan Uribe – Los Angeles Dodgers
Juan Uribe is only hitting .275 on the season as of Wednesday, however is hitting .350 over the past week and currently has a 10 game hitting streak. As I mentioned above, I feel that the Dodgers have a favorable matchup against the Giants Ryan Vogelsong and Uribe in particular has fared well against Vogelsong as he has a career .409 average (9-22) with two doubles and 3 RBI’s. You always have to check to ensure Uribe is in the line-up as he usually gets a day off every week, however, with his past success against Vogelsong, I expect him to play on Wednesday.
- High Cost – Yoenis Cespedes – Detroit Tigers
So far I’ve been spot on with Yoenis Cespedes when I’ve picked him as he always seems to come through with a homerun for me. I’m hoping this continues on Wednesday as I’m backing Cespedes against Minnesota’s Phil Hughes. Cespedes is hitting .304 on the season with 4 homeruns and 17 RBI’s and has posted a career .500 average (5 for 10) with two doubles, a triple, and a homerun against Hughes. Cespedes is hitting .311 against righties on the season and with the power at the top of the Tigers lineup is always in prime position to come to plate with RISP.
- High Cost – Carlos Gonzalez – Colorado Rockies
Carlos Gonzalez has gotten off to a slow 2015 as he is only hitting .208 on the young season and even though he is not at Coors Field on Wednesday, he actually has fared better away from home as he is posting a .270 average. Gonzalez has done well against Arizona’s Josh Collmenter as he has posted a career .417 (5 for 12) average with two doubles and two homeruns. Over the past three seasons, Gonzalez has hit .295 against right-handed pitching.
- Value Pick – Jay Bruce – Cincinnati Reds
I’m going to go with Jay Bruce as my value pick today, as although the veteran has really gotten off to a slow start in 2015 (.182 average) he does have the power to put ball out of the ball park and has a good matchup against the Brewers Matt Garza on Wednesday. Bruce has posted a .360 average (9-25) with three doubles, two homeruns, and 6 RBI’s. Garza has struggle in 2015 and has given up 3 homeruns over his last 12.0 IP and I’m hoping Bruce can continue this trend on Wednesday.
- Value Pick – Peter Bourjos – St. Louis Cardinals
You’ll have to check to ensure Bourjos gets a start on Wednesday, but with his past success against Aaron Harang, I have a feeling that he will get a chance to go against the righty. Bourjos has posted a career .467 average with a double, triple, and home run against Harang and is also a threat to steal if he can get on base. Bourjos will probably be one of the cheapest options on Wednesday for the outfield, but if your scrap for salary by the time you get to your outfield and Bourjos is getting a start, he is worth a look.
