Fantasy Baseball Update 5/6/15: Who's Hot and Who's Not
Taking a Look at the Streaking and Slumping Players in Fantasy
May 6, 2015
It’s Wednesday; you know what that means around here. It’s time once again for our weekly Who’s Hot and Who’s Not list in the world of fantasy baseball. We’ve got our usual crop of notable names in store for you today, so let’s take a look at the numbers and see who’s affecting our lineups for better or worse.
USA TODAY Sports
Paul Goldschmidt, 1B, Arizona Diamondbacks: As one of the top picks in this year’s fantasy draft, Goldschmidt has big expectations this year, he’s been delivering on those lately, providing a .545 average, six RBI and five runs in his week heading into the Colorado series.
Goldschmidt is off to a nice start RBI and BA wise, and even has a handful of stolen bases already. Nice.
Jose Altuve, 2B, Houston Astros: Altuve has been delivering across the board recently, posting seven runs, seven RBI, three steals and a .464 average in his week heading into play yesterday (where he unfortunately came up empty).
Altuve is doing great things on the base-paths this year, and has been a run-scoring machine. He’ll be stellar again this year.
Madison Bumgarner, SP, San Francisco Giants: Bumgarner is coming off a great game on Monday, firing no earned on two hits through 7 1/3 innings against San Diego. He walked one and struck out six there.
It was the second win in a row for Bumgarner, who has allowed just one earned on seven hits in that time. He’ll be on the mound again May 9 at home against Miami.
Jose Abreu, 1B, Chicago White Sox: Let’s head to the Windy City and visit with Abreu, who hasn’t had a great week. Heading into the Tigers series, he had one run scored, one RBI and a .105 BA in his previous week of action.
Abreu was a top-10 pick in most fantasy leagues, so the sputtering numbers are certainly disappointing. He should get it back together soon, however. He posted a hit, a run and an RBI yesterday.
Victor Martinez, 1B, Detroit Tigers: We don’t have to go too far to find our next player on the Not list so let’s check out Martinez. Heading into the White Sox series, he had a .130 BA with just one run scored in his previous week. He whiffed again yesterday (0-for-4).
The good news is that Martinez will get plenty of rest and probably won’t play 1B at all this year. He’s got knee issues that are hampering his numbers.
Chris Sale, SP, Chicago White Sox: It wasn’t hard to find today’s Not pitcher, as Sale had a career meltdown in Minnesota during his last start. He posted nine runs (eight earned) in just three innings on nine hits.
Up until that one, Sale had been playing pretty well. He’ll get a chance to get back on the rails today against the Tigers.
