Fantasy Baseball Update 5/14/15: Key Matchups This Weekend
Fantasy Baseball Daily Leagues: Sleeper Picks and Advice for Upcoming Matchups
May 14, 2015
It’s Thursday, and fantasy baseball owners know what that means. It’s time once again to start looking forward to the big weekend matchups. With that in mind, let’s visit with some of the popular waiver wire pickups out there and see who might make nice adds to your roster ahead of the weekend games.
A.J. Ramos, RP, Miami Marlins: Those owners speculating on RP names should check out Ramos, who seems to be the first guy in line when it comes to save chances down in Miami. He bagged a save yesterday in a clean outing.
Now that Steve Cishek has been demoted, the team is supposedly going with a committee approach at closer. Ramos looks to have the best chance at opportunities in the short-term, but the team may end up adding someone eventually. Regardless, he’s a hot pickup ahead of the Atlanta series.

Colby Lewis, SP, Texas Rangers: Let’s stay on the mound for a moment and visit with Lewis. He’s got a nice run of games going right now, allowing no more than one earned run in his last three starts.
Lewis is coming off a three-hitter in seven innings against the Royals, and he’ll try to get his fourth win of the season on Saturday at home against the Indians. He’s one of the better-looking SP pickups right now.
Andre Ethier, OF, Los Angeles Dodgers: Thanks to a monstrous game on Tuesday, Ethier is trending heavily coming out of the Miami series. He went 5-for-5 in that game, belting a homer with three RBI. He posted a run yesterday but whiffed at the plate.
Ethier may sit here and there due to the wealth of talent the Dodgers boast, but when he’s in there he’s worth starting. He’ll get the Rockies starting today and should be on your radar in fantasy.
Shin-soo Choo, OF, Texas Rangers: Choo also had a big day on Tuesday, belting a solo homer in a 3-for-5 outing. Heading into yesterday’s action, he had a 12-game hit streak with seven hits in his last three appearances. He kept it going with two hits and a homer.
Choo has been consistent but not eye-popping in the stats department. Still, if your roster is struggling to produce he’s a good bet as the team hosts Cleveland this weekend.
Yunel Escobar, 3B/SS, Washington Nationals: Escobar also boasted a hit streak coming into yesterday’s action. He had a six-game streak going with four RBI and six runs in that frame. He posted a hit and two RBI yesterday.
Escobar boasts a very nice batting average, though he won’t do a whole lot for your power numbers in fantasy. Still, he’s definitely on the radar as the team heads to San Diego for the weekend series.
