Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – 5/27

USA TODAY Sports

Pitchers

  • High Cost – Gerrit Cole  – Pittsburgh Pirates

Gerrit Cole has been absolutely dominant so far in 2015 posting a 6-2 record with a 2.05 ERA and 1.11 WHIP while striking out 63 batters in 57.0 IP. Cole has yet to give up more than 3 ER in any of his 9 starts on the season and was great in his last outing going 8.1 innings giving up no runs and striking out 10 against the Mets last Friday. Cole is posting a 9.9 K/9 Ratio on the season and Miami is currently ranked 4th in MLB with the most strikeouts against right-handed pitching. There are a lot of “aces” on the mound this Wednesday afternoon, however I think Cole has the best matchup against the Marlins and will continue his hot start to the season.

  • Value Pick – Noah Syndergaard – New York  Mets

I’m going with Noah Syndergaard as my value pick on Wednesday as the rookie has tremendous stuff and has a favorable matchup against the Philadelphia Phillies. Syndergarrd has pitched well since his promotion as he comes into this matchup with a 3.63 ERA and 1.21 WHIP. Syndergaard has a great fastball and a 12-6 curveball and posted a solid 9.9 K/9 ratio in his two seasons in Triple AAA. Syndergaard has 16 strikeouts in 17.1 IP on the season. The Phillies have played well as of late but they really aren’t a great team in 2015 and after watching the Phillies put up 9 K’s against Jason DeGrom, I think Syndergaard has the potential to put up a good game on Wednesday.

Catchers

  • High Cost – Buster Posey – San Francisco Giants

Posey is having a great May as he is hitting .359 with 4 homeruns and 14 RBI’s and is now hitting .306 with 7 homeruns and 24 RBI’s on the season. As of Tuesday, Posey currently has a 12 game hitting streak and has hit .310 against Brewers over his past three seasons. Posey hit .300 at Miller Park in 2014 and as Miller Park is generally a hitters park, I’m not afraid of Posey’s big price tag on Wednesday.

  • Value Pick – Salvador Perez – Kansas City Royals

Salvador Perez is hitting .299 on the season with 5 homeruns and 24 RBI’s and has really been hot as of late as over the past week he has hit .438 (7-16) with 2 doubles and 3 RBI’s. Perez has a tough match up against Michael Pineda of the New York Yankees on Wednesday, but has actually fared well against the right hander as he has posted a career .417 (5-12) average. Perez has struggled at Yankees Stadium in his career, but as he is hitting .295 against righties and has a price tag in the mid-$2000 range he has good value on Wednesday.

First Base

  • High Cost – Prince Fielder – Texas Rangers

Prince Fielder is having a great season down in Texas he currently is hitting .375 with 10 homeruns and 38 RBI’s and has been raking the ball as of late hitting .467 with 4 homeruns and 12 RBI’s over the past week. Fielder has a good matchup on Wednesday in Cleveland’s Carlos Carrasco as he has posted a career .556 average with a homerun and 5 RBI’s off the right hander. Fielder is hitting .386 against right-handed pitching on the season and is hitting .389 against the Indians in 2015. Fielder’s price has skyrocketed over the past week, but with his success off Carrasco he is worth the investment if you wish to spend some money at first base on Wednesday.

  • Value Pick – David Ortiz – Boston Red Sox

David Ortiz is really struggling on the season hitting just .221 with 6 homeruns and 18 RBI’s and is hitting just .148 over the last week however as he has had success against Phil Hughes of the Minnesota Twins and is in a good hitters ball park at Target Field, I think Ortiz has good value on Wednesday. In his career against the right-handed Hughes, Ortiz has posted a career .345 average with 2 homeruns and 7 RBI’s. Ortiz is hitting .286 against righties on the season and is hitting an incredible .526 at Target Field over his past three seasons. Ortiz is price in the mid to high $2000 range which has good value and as I think his recent demotion to hitting 5th in the batter order will give him the motivation to hit us a homerun or two on Wednesday.

Second Base

  • High Cost – Brian Dozier – Minnesota Twins

Brain Dozier certainly hasn’t been hitting for average as of late, but when he does make solid contact he is making them count as over the past week the second baseman is hitting just .185 (5-27) however his five hits  consist of two doubles and three homeruns. On the season, Dozier is hitting .256 with 9 homeruns and 24 RBI’s and has a good match up against Rick Porcello as he has posted a career .292 average with 3 homeruns and 8 RBI’s against the right-hander. Dozier is hitting .270 at Target Field on the season and Porcello has already given up 9 homeruns on the young season, I like Dozier on Wednesday.

  • Value Pick – Dustin Pedroia  - Boston Red Sox

Dustin Pedroia is having a solid season as the scrappy second baseman is hitting .284 with 5 homeruns and 17 RBI’s on the season. Pedroia has a good matchup against Phil Hughes of the Minnesota Twins as he has posted a career .314 average with 3 homeruns and 10 RBI’s. Pedroia has actually fared better against right-handed pitchers on the season as he is currently hitting .303 against righties. Pedroia is hitting .377 in day games on the season and as he is hitting .341 at Target Field over the past three seasons, he is good value pick on Wednesday.

Shortstop

  • High Cost – Brandon Crawford – San Francisco Giants

Brandon Crawford is having a great season as he is hitting .301 with 6 homeruns and 31 RBI’s. As of Tuesday, Crawford currently has a 10 game hitting streak and is hitting .357 with 6 RBI’s over the past week. Crawford will be facing Mike Fiers of the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday and although he his limited experience against the right-hander (1 for 3 lifetime), Crawford has hit .292 against the Brewers over his past three seasons. Crawford is seems to be hot at the moment and as he has hit .306 with 2 homeruns and 3 RBI’s in 36 AB’s over the past three seasons, he is a good choice if you wish to spend a little money at the shortstop position on Wednesday.

  • Value Pick – Wilmer Flores – New York Mets

Wilmer Flores has been disappointing at the defensive end so far in 2015, however, luckily for us we are just concerned about his offensive performance and although the shortstop is hitting just .247 on the season, he does have 7 homeruns and 20 RBI’s on the season. Flores will be going against Sean O’Sullivan of the Philadelphia Phillies and although Sullivan has been decent in his five starts posting a 3.54 ERA, he does have a tendency to give up the long ball as he is giving up an average of 1 homerun for every 5.2 IP. Flores is hitting .294 at home on the season and as the young shortstop has power to hit a homerun for his, he has good value on Wednesday.

Third Base

  • Value Pick – Nolan Arenado – Colorado Rockies

Nolan Arenado is hitting .281 with 9 homeruns and 28 RBI’s on the season and has hit .310 with 2 homeruns and 9 RBI’s over the past week. Arenado has been on fire as of late as in his past three games he is 7 for 12 with 2 homeruns and 7 RBI’s. Arenado will be going against Mark Leake of the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday in which he is 1 for 2 lifetime with a solo homerun. Arenado is hitting .285 against righties and .310 away for Coors Field on the season. Arenado is hitting .327 against the Reds over the past three seasons and as he seems to be seeing the ball well at the moment, he is worth the investment on Wednesday.

  • Value Pick – Mike Moustakas – Kansas City Royals

I just don’t understand why Mike Moustakas price tag has yet to go up on the season as the slugging third baseman is still right around the mid-$2000 range even though he is hitting .331 with 4 homeruns and 15 RBI’s on the season as of Tuesday. Moustakas will be facing off against Michael Pineda of the New York Yankees in which he has posted a career .500 (5-10) average with 2 doubles, triple, and a homerun.  Moustakas is hitting .357 against righties and .371 on the road on the season and for that price-tag has great value again on Wednesday.

Outfield

  • High Cost – Michael Brantley – Cleveland Indians

Michael Brantley has struggled a bit as of late but is still hitting .306 on the season with 4 homeruns and 27 RBI’s and has been great against the Rangers so far this season. Going into Tuesday’s matchup, Brantley is hitting .462 against the Rangers on the season and has fared well against Colby Lewis as he has posted a career .357 average with a double, triple, homerun and 3 RBI’s. Brantley is hitting .294 against right-handed pitching on the season and has hit .321 during day games. Brantley has hit .338 against the Rangers over his past three seasons and is good option on Wednesday.

  • High Cost – Carlos Gomez – Milwaukee Brewers

Carlos Gomez is only hitting .261 with 4 homeruns and 18 RBI’s on the season and although he is hitting just .269 over the past week, he does have a favorable matchup against Ryan Vogelsong of the San Francisco Giants. In his career against the right-handed Vogelsong, Gomez is hitting .429 with a triple, homerun and 3 RBI’s. Gomez is hitting .292 on the season against right-handers and has hit .286 with 4 homeruns against the Giants over his past three seasons. Gomez has the power and speed to have a big fantasy day and with a good matchup I think he is a good option for Wednesday.

  • High Value – Rajai Davis– Detroit Tigers

If you’re looking to save money on Wednesday in the outfield, Rajai Davis is a decent option as the veteran outfielder has had great success against Scott Kazmir of the Oakland Athletics. Davis is hitting .274 with a homerun and 10 RBI’s on the season but has posted a stellar .476 (10-21) average with 3 doubles, a triple, a homerun and 6 RBI’s against Kazmir in his career. Davis is hitting .303 against left-handed pitching on the season and has collected at least one hit in each of the last six games he has started.

  • Value Pick – Jay Bruce – Cincinnati Reds

Jay Bruce might be hitting only .225 on the season, but he does have 7 homeruns and 19 RBI’s and has been great as of late hitting .429 over the past week. Bruce has a solid matchup against Kyle Kendrick of the Colorado Rockies as in his career, he has posted a .353 average with 2 homeruns and 3 RBI’s. Bruce is hitting .274 at home on the season as has collected at least 2 hits in 5 of his last 9 games. Bruce has great power and for an affordable price, is a good option for value in the outfield on Wednesday.
