Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.
USA TODAY Sports
Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight!
I’m staying away from the Minnesota vs. Boston game tonight as I’m pretty confident that it’s going to be rained out.
- Jason DeGrom – New York Mets
There are a lot of “aces” on the mound to choose from tonight and I’m going to go with Jason DeGrom of the New York Mets has been outstanding in his last three starts and has a favorable matchup against the San Diego Padres on Monday night. DeGrom has only posted a 5-4 record on the season but does have a stellar 2.71 ERA and 1.08 WHIP while striking out 63 batters in 63.0 IP. DeGrom has been especially good as of late as in his last three starts he is 2-0 with giving up just 3 ER’s while striking out 26 over 21.1 IP. As San Diego is ranked third in MLB in total strikeouts and in the bottom third in average and slugging % against right-hand pitchers, I’m hoping that DeGrom can get my 7 inning and 8-10 K’s tonight.
- Wilson Ramos – Washington Nationals
Wilson Ramos is hitting .270 with 3 homeruns and 22 RBI’s on the season and is going to be in my lineup this Monday night as in his career, he has absolutely owned R.A. Dickey of the Toronto Blue Jays. In his career Ramos, is hitting .692 (9-13) and has a ridiculous 1.692 OPS against the knuckleballer. Lackey has struggled against right-handed batters on the season allowing them to hit .287 with a slugging % of .512. Ramos stats at home against righties haven’t been outstanding on the season, but between his success against Dickey and his ability to hit the ball out of the park, makes him a good option for the price on Monday.
- Adrian Gonzalez – Los Angeles Dodgers
I imagine that many teams will be stacking the Dodgers hitters against a struggling Kyle Kendrick at Coors Field on Monday, and my first Dodger of the day with Adrian Gonzalez. Although Gonzalez’s power numbers have been quiet as late, the veteran first baseman is still hitting .324 with 10 homeruns and 35 RBI’s on the season and has a .991 OPS on the season. Gonzalez has had success against the Kendrick as in his career he has a .389 (7-18) average with 4 doubles against the right-hander. Gonzalez is hitting .326 and slugging .601 against righties on the season and has hit .372 with a 1.143 OPS during night games in 2015. Kendrick has already allowed 13 homeruns on the season in just 60.2 IP which makes Gonzalez have great value for his price tag tonight.
- Howie Kendrick – Los Angeles Dodgers
It will be the battle of the Kendrick’s on Monday Night in Colorado and although Howie Kendrick has slowed down from his hot start in April with the Dodgers, he is still sporting a respectable .290 average with 4 homeruns and 19 RBI’s on the season. Although Howie Kendrick has limited experience against Kyle Kendrick of the Rockies, he still has posted a career .400 average (2-5) with a double, homerun and 3 RBI’s off the right-hander. Kyle Kendrick has allowed right-handed batters to hit .278 with 8 homeruns and 21 RBI’s on the young season and as Howie Kendrick is hitting .406 against the Rockies in 2015 and has hit .462 over the past three seasons at Coors Field, he will be in my starting lineup tonight.
- Nick Ahmed – Arizona Diamondbacks
Nick Ahmed has started to pick it up as of late as although he is hitting just .224 with 3 homeruns and 11 RBI’s, the first-year shortstop out of Connecticut is hitting .314 with 3 homeruns and 5 RBI’s over his past 9 games. Ahmed has limited experience against Alex Wood (0-2 lifetime) however is hitting an impressive .379 with 2 homeruns and 5 RBI’s against left-handed pitching on the season. Alex Wood is allowing right-handers to hit .311 against him on the season and as the Arizona offensive was hot over the weekend (average 6.6 runs in the 3 game series against the Brewers) I’m hoping that this continues on Monday night and Ahmed is a big part of it.
- Aramis Ramirez – Milwaukee Brewers
This one is going to be reach, but I’m going with Aramis Ramirez of the Brewers as my third baseman as I need to save a little money at the position and I expect the slugging third baseman to get the start tonight as he got the majority of the day off yesterday and will be going up against a left-hander tonight. Ramirez is hitting just .226 on the season but does have 6 homeruns and 16 RBI’s on the season. Ramirez has a decent matchup against Jamie Garcia of the St. Louis Cardinals in which he has posted a career .286 average with 2 homeruns and 9 RBI’s against. Although he is struggling against lefties in 2015, Ramirez is hitting .325 and has a 1.003 OPS against lefties over the past three seasons and I’m hoping on the national ESPN broadcast tonight, he can put one in the seats for my team.
- Ryan Braun – Milwaukee Brewers
Ryan Braun is bit more expensive then I want him to be on Monday, however, I’m going to roll with the power-hitting outfielder. Braun is hitting just .264 on the season but does have 12 homeruns, 38 RBI’s and 6 SB’s on the season. Braun will be up against the left-hander Jamie Garcia of the St. Louis Cardinals and although he has hit just .222 against him in his career, he does have a .331 average and 1.029 OPS against left-handed pitching over his past three seasons. Braun has been great on the road this season hitting .286 with 9 homeruns and 25 RBI’s and as Garcia is still shaking off the rust coming back from thoracic outlet surgery last June, I’m confident going with Braun tonight.
- High Cost – Andre Either – Los Angeles Dodgers
For my last Dodger pick of the day, I’m going with the left-handed hitting Andre Ethier of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Either is having a solid season posting a .305 average with 6 homeruns and 19 RBI’s and has hit .316 over his last week. Either hasn’t had great success against Kyle Kendrick of the Colorado Rockies as he has only posted a .233 average (7-30) however he does have 2 doubles, and 2 homeruns against the right-hander. Either has had plenty experience at Coors Field in his career and has hit .303 with 2 homeruns and 10 RBI’s at the hitter’s ball park over the past three seasons. As I’ve mentioned above, Kendrick has really struggled giving up the long-ball this season and as Either is quite affordable, I imagine he will be a very popular play in the outfield on Monday night.
- Colby Rasmus – Houston Astros
With a limited budget remaining, I’m going with Colby Rasmus as the left-hand hitting outfield should get the start in Houston tonight with his great past success against Ubaldo Jimenez of the Baltimore Orioles. Rasmus is hitting just .239 on the season but has hit 8 homeruns and has posted a career .419 average with a 1.229 OPS in 31 AB’s against the right-handed Jimenez. Rasmus hit .375 in Houston’s first series against Baltimore on the season and as the outfielder certainly has the pop in his bat to get us a homerun, he is good value play on Monday.
