Daily Fantasy Baseball – High Cost / Value Picks – 6/4/15 (Late Games)
Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices and my lineup will only include players from the later games on Thursday.

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight!
- Matt Harvey – New York Mets
I’ve been generally saving money at the pitchers spot this week, but I’m going with the highest priced pitcher in Matt Harvey as I just can’t find another matchup that I’m overly confident about. Harvey comes into the matchup with a 5-3 record with a 3.11 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP while striking out 71 batters in 66.2 IP. There were slight concerns after his worst outing of the year against Pittsburgh (4.0 IP, 7 ER, 65 pitches) that Harvey might be suffering from a tired arm, however his stuff did look good against the Marlins last Friday and he was able to throw 105 pitches in the contest while striking out 11. Arizona won’t be the easiest of matchups for Harvey as they are hitting .267 against right-handers on the season, however as they rank 11th in MLB in total-strikeouts against righties and for the fact that Matt Harvey is not your everyday right-handed pitcher, I think Harvey will be able to get us 15-20 fantasy points tonight.
- Robinson Chirinos – Texas Rangers
Robinson Chirinos has been day-to-day with a hand injury however, as they stated that he was available to play yesterday, I imagine he will be back in the lineup tonight. Chirinos is hitting just .208 on the season but does have 5 homeruns and 20 RBI’s and has hit .300 (3-10) with two doubles and 4 RBI’s over the past week. Chirinos will be facing off against the left-handed rookie Carlos Rodon and although he has yet to face Rodon, Chirinos is hitting .303 and has a 1.031 OPS against left-handed pitching on the season. Rodon does have a ton of potential however, he has had controls issues since being called up to the majors (1.71 WHIP) and I’m hoping the Chirinos and the Texas Rangers offensive can do some damage against him on Thursday night.
- Jose Abreu – Chicago White Sox
Coming off a monster rookie campaign in 2014, Abreu got off to a bit of a slow start in 2015 but has picked up as of late hitting .313 over the past week and is now posting a .286 average with 9 homeruns and 32 RBI’s on the season. Jose Abreu has a decent matchup against Yovani Gallardo of the Texas Rangers and although he hasn’t faced the right-handed Gallardo in his career, he is hitting .297 with 8 homeruns and 30 RBI’s against righties on the season. Abreu has fared well during night games on the season hitting .330 and in his short career, Abreu has a .348 average and .965 OPS against the Texas Rangers.
- Addison Russell – Chicago Cubs
Addison Russell is posting a .255 average with 4 homeruns and 15 RBI’s since being called up to the majors in late April. Russell will be facing a tough left-hander in Gio Gonzalez on Thursday, and although he is just 6-27 against left-handed pitchers on the season, all six hits have been doubles. Gonzalez has struggled a bit this year posting a 4.73 ERA and he allowed right-handed batters to have a .304 average and .836 OPS so far in 2015. Russell has hit .364 against the Nationals so far in 2015 and although Russell has had a bit of an issue with strikeouts as he has an incredible 50 SO’s in just 137 AB’s, the second baseman has shown glimpses of his extraordinary talent and for the low price, he is worth a gamble on Thursday.
- Alcides Escobar – Kansas City Royals
Alcides Escobar has had a nice season with the Kansas City Royals and is hitting .275 with 2 homeruns and 17 RBI’s so far on the season. Escobar broke out of a mini 0-9 slump last night going 2-4 with a double and two runs scored. Escobar will be facing Trevor Bauer of the Cleveland Indians on Thursday night in which in his career, he has posted a .500 average (4-8) with a double, walk, and RBI. Escobar has fared better against right-handed pitching on the season hitting .280 with 2 homeruns and 11 RBI’s and as the shortstop does have enough speed to possibility get us a SB and I need to save some salary, I take a chance on Alcides Escobar tonight.
- Yunel Escobar – Washington Nationals
As I want to save some additional salary for my outfield, I’m going to take Yunel Escobar of the Nationals as the veteran has great value on Thursday. Escobar is hitting .364 over the past week and has posted an outstanding .317 average with 2 homeruns and 14 RBI’s on the season. Escobar does have a tough matchup against Jake Arrieta of the Chicago Cubs however, Escobar has posted a .389 (7-18) average with a homerun against the right-hander in his career. Escobar is hitting .321 against righties and .329 at home on the season and although Arrieta’s slider can be devastating against RHB, I like the value Escobar brings to table tonight for a price of just $2400.
- Brandon Moss – Cleveland Indians
Brandon Moss came through for us on Tuesday with a 3-4 performance with a homerun and I’m going with him against as he has a proven track record of hitting homeruns against Chris Young of the Kansas City Royals. Moss is hitting just .251 on the season but does have 9 homeruns and 30 RBI’s and has been raking it as of late hitting .440 (11-25) over the past week. In his career against the right-handed Young, Moss has posted a .286 (4-14) average with three of those four hits being homeruns. Moss has hit seven homeruns against right-handed pitching on the season and has a .935 OPS against the Royals this season. Young has pitched well for the Royals this year, but I don’t think he is nearly as good as his stats might suggest and I think the heavy left-handed hitting lineup of the Cleveland Indians could be in for a good day.
- Dexter Fowler – Chicago Cubs
Dexter Fowler has struggled a bit as of late hitting just .136 over the last week and although he is hitting just .235 on the season, he does have 6 homeruns, 14 RBI’s and 11 SB’s. I’m going with Fowler this evening as he has done well against Gio Gonzalez of the Washington Nationals as in his career he has posted a .455 average and a 1.318 OPS. Fowler should be hitting from the right side of the plate tonight in which he has been much better posting a .323 (10-31) average and as Gonzalez has allowed RHB to hit .304 on the season, I like this matchup tonight.
- Alex Gordon – Kansas City Royals
Alex Gordon has slowly started to pick it up as the left-fielder is hitting .308 over the past week and is now posting a .264 average with 6 homeruns and 25 RBI’s so far on the season. Gordon will be going against Trevor Bauer of the Cleveland Indians on Thursday in which he posted a .286 average with 4 walks and a homerun. Gordon has a .848 OPS against right-handed pitchers on the season and for the fact that he does the power to hit homeruns and seems to see the ball well against Bauer, I’m going to hope that Gordon can connect on one tonight.
