Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight!

Pitcher – Chris Rusin – Colorado Rockies

I’m going way out on a limb tonight and going to take a big chance on Chris Rusin of the Colorado Rockies on Thursday night. Rusin, who has a career 4.45 ERA and 1.43 WHIP has really turned it around so far in 2015 with the Colorado Rockies as in the three games he has started, he is 2-0 with a 1.45 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and has struck out 15 batters in 18.2 IP. Rusin will be up against the Miami Marlins tonight on the road and in his recent start this last Saturday against Miami at Coors Field, Rusin was able to go 7.0 innings while giving up just 2 runs and striking out 8. Rusin certainly doesn’t have the power stuff and need to depend on his control and assortment of breaking pitches to keep the Miami hitters off-balance. Rusin is obviously a big risk, but I’m going to hope that he can continue is strong start in 2015 at least one more game and use the salary I will save by taking him on some big-name hitters.

Catcher – Buster Posey – San Francisco Giants

Buster Posey is hitting .295 on the season with 9 homeruns and 34 RBI’s and is so far having a great series against the Mets as Posey is hitting .500 (5-10) with 3 doubles and 3 RBI’s in the first two games of the series. Over the past week Posey is hitting .375 and has a favorable matchup against the left-handed Jonathon Niese of the New York Mets on Thursday as in his career he has posted a .368 (7-19) average and 1.032 OPS. In his last three seasons, Posey is hitting .353 against left-handed pitching and .373 against the New York Mets. As San Francisco is ranked the 3rd in MLB with a .276 average against left-handed pitching on the season, I think Posey and the Giants could have another good day at the plate in this one.

First Base – Anthony Rizzo – Chicago Cubs

Anthony Rizzo is an easy addition to the lineup tonight as the first baseman is hitting .327 with 11 homeruns, 37 RBI’s and 10 SB’s on the season and has a good matchup against an at-best average right-hander in Cincinnati’s  Michael Lorenzen. Rizzo has yet to face Lorenzen in his short career, however, he is hitting .400 over the past week and has a .997 OPS with 10 homeruns and 29 RBI’s against right-handed pitching on the season. Rizzo has been hitting .326 at Wrigley Field on the season and I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t be able to hit Lorenzen hard on Thursday night.

Second Base – Dustin Pedroia – Boston Red Sox

Dustin Pedroia and Chris Tillman are currently headed in different directions as Pedroia has be great as of late hitting .435 over the past week while Tillman comes into this match up with a 5.61 ERA and 1.62 WHIP. On the season Pedroia is now hitting .312 with 8 homeruns and 23 RBI’s and although he only has a .263 (10-38) average against Tillman, in 2015 Tillman is currently allowing RHB’s to have a .300 average and .937 OPS against him. Tillman is 0-4 with a 7.50 ERA at Camden Yards so far this season and with how well Pedroia is swinging the bat as of late, I like this matchup tonight.

Shortstop – Starlin Castro – Chicago Cubs

I’m banking that the Cubs are able to handle Michael Lorenzen tonight so in an effort to stack a few of my players tonight, I’m going to go with Starlin Castro of the Chicago Cubs as he won’t break the bank for me but certainly has the potential to get us a couple of extra base hits. Castro is hitting .268 with 4 homeruns and 27 RBI’s on the season. Castro has picked up a bit in June as for the month he is currently hitting .281 (9-32) with a double, triple, and homerun. Castro has been good during night games hitting at a .296 mark and hit .292 against the Reds in 2014.

Third Base – Kris Bryant – Chicago Cubs

With the money I’m saving with Castro at short, I’m going to go with the Cubs slugging third baseman, Kris Bryant tonight. Bryant is hitting .278 on the season with 7 homeruns and 34 RBI’s and has fared well as of late hitting .333 (7-21) over the past week. As I mentioned above, I’m not sold on Michael Lorenzen and I think the Cubs will be able to have a nice night against him. Bryant is hitting .293 against right-handers on the season. Bryant has done well pleasing the home crowd this season as he has a .310 average and 1.021 OPS at Wrigley Field.

Outfield – Bryce Harper – Washington Nationals

With the money I’ve saved by taking Chris Rusin, I’m going to spend it big with Bryce Harper who is having a phenomenal season posting a .328 average with 20 homeruns and 47 RBI’s as of Thursday. Harper will face the righty Matt Garza tonight who is once again struggling on the season as he currently is posting a 5.09 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. Harper has only faced Garza once in his career (which he walked), however, Harper has been mashing right-handed pitching on the season to a tune of a .333 average and an incredible 1.231 OPS (18 homeruns, 37 RBI’s). Harper has never had much success at Miller Park over his career, however, I expect that to change starting tonight.

Outfield – Adam Jones – Baltimore Orioles

Adam Jones has been a bargain as of late on FanDuel, however as the all-star center fielder is starting to find his groove at the plate again, we won’t have many more opportunities to get Jones at a reasonable price. Jones is hitting .306 with 9 homeruns and 31 RBI’s on the season and has hit .375 (9-24) with 3 homeruns over the past week. Jones will be facing off against the left-handed Wade Miley of the Boston Red Sox on Thursday and although he is 0-4 w/ a BB in his career against Miley, Jones is hitting .351 with 2 homeruns in 37 AB’s against left-handed pitching on the season. Jones has done great all season against the Red Sox as he currently has a .361 average against Boston in 2015, and I can see the Orioles and Jones having a good day against an average Wade Miley.

Outfield – Delmon Young – Baltimore Orioles

With all the big-name hitters I’ve got in my lineup I do need one value pick in the outfield and I’m going to stay in Baltimore and go with Delmon Young of the Orioles. Young is hitting .285 on the season with 2 homeruns and 14 RBI’s and although he is hitting just .143 over the past week, similar to Adam Jones, I like his matchup against the left-handed Wade Miley of the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night. Young has limited experience against Miley (1-2, 1 RBI), but has thrived against lefties so far in 2015 as he has posted a .349 average in 43 AB’s against left-handed pitching. Young has been great at Camden Yards this season posting a .329 average and although his power numbers are a bit down, he certainly has the ability to get a homerun or two tonight.
