Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – 6/12

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight!

Pitcher – Felix Hernandez – Seattle Mariners

After taking a big chance with Chris Rusin last night (which completely failed…..) I’m going to go back to what is most likely a sure-fire pick in King Felix tonight. Hernandez is having another outstanding season as he has currently posted a 9-2 record with a 2.51 ERA and 0.96 WHIP while striking out 81 batters in 82.1 IP. Hernandez has a favorable matchup against the Houston Astros on Friday as the Astros ranked 7th in MLB in total strikeouts against RHP and 2nd in MLB in total strikeouts. Hernandez has held the current Astros roster to a .239 (34-142) average. Hernandez has been better on the road this season as in 5 starts, he is 4-0 with a 1.82 ERA and in his six starts against Houston over the past three seasons he is 3-1 with a 1.18 ERA.

Catcher – Russell Martin – Toronto Blue Jays

Russell Martin is having a good first season with the slugging Toronto Blue Jays as he has posted a .274 average with 9 homeruns and 28 RBI’s so far in 2015. Martin has been hot as of late hitting .357 with 2 homeruns over the past week and has a great matchup against Joe Kelly of the Boston Red Sox in which he has posted a career .400 (4-10) average with a double, homerun and 6 RBI’s. Joe Kelly has really struggled with the Red Sox this year and is barely holding on to his spot in the rotation as he currently has a 5.40 ERA so far in 2015. Kelly has already faced the Blue Jays twice in 2015 and is 0-1 with an 8.49 ERA in those starts giving up 9 hits and 10 walks in just 11.2 IP. With the success that the Blue Jays have had against Kelly along with the fact that Martin has hit .333 against Boston this season, makes him a good choice for Friday.

First Base – Freddie Freeman – Atlanta Braves

Freddie Freeman has .304 average with 11 homeruns and 37 RBI’s on the season and has been great over the past week as he has posted a .346 average with three doubles, a homerun and 4 RBI’s. Freeman has a great matchup against Bartolo Colon of the New York Mets on Friday as he has posted a career .438 (7-16) average and a 1.063 OPS. Freeman is hitting .312 against right-handed pitching on the season and as Colon is allowing LHB to have a .319 average and .809 OPS against him this season, Freeman is a safe pick at first base today.

Second Base – Robinson Cano – Seattle Mariners

I need to save a bit money and although Cano has been awful this season and is going against a left-hander tonight, I still like his potential to be able to do some damage in Houston. Cano is hitting just .238 on the season with 2 homeruns and 19 RBI’s however, he has had success against the Astros this season, hitting .321 (9-28) with three doubles and three RBI’s. Cano will be facing Brett Oberholtzer tonight in which he posted a .500 (3-6) average in his career and as he has hit .362 with a homerun and 13 RBI’s at Minute Maid Park over his past three seasons, I’ll take a chance that Cano can have a good day tonight.

Shortstop – Andrelton Simmons – Atlanta Braves

Andrelton Simmons is known for his uncanny defensive ability, however, I’m hoping that he can do a bit of damage at plate on Friday night. Simmons is hitting .263 with 3 homeruns and 27 RBI’s on the season, however, he has had great success against Bartolo Colon as in his career he has posted a .533 (8-15) average with two doubles, a triple, and 4 RBI’s. Simmons has actually had better success against RHP on the season as he has hit .281 so far in 2015. Simmons has fared well against the Mets as in his last three seasons he has hit .289 with 3 homeruns and 17 RBI’s against the Mets.

Third Base – Trevor Plouffe – Minnesota Twins

Trevor Plouffe is only hitting .150 over the past week and .250 on the season but he has displayed some power so far in 2015 as he has 9 homeruns and 32 RBI’s. Although Plouffe has been struggling a bit at the plate I do like his matchup against the left-handed Wandy Rodriguez of the Texas Rangers on Friday as Plouffe does have a decent .827 against LHP on the season. Rodriguez has allowed LHB to have a .286 average and .482 slugging % against him. Plouffe has hit .300 over his past three seasons at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington and as the park is a hitter’s ballpark, I’m hoping that Plouffe can provide us a big homerun on Friday.

Outfield – Steve Souza – Tampa Bay Rays

Steve Souza has really struggled in the month of June and although his average is just .213 on the season, Souza has displayed plenty of power as he has 12 homeruns and 28 RBI’s so far in 2015. Souza was in the midst of a 0-16 slump but has gone 2 for 7 in his last two games with a double, a homerun and 2 RBI’s. Souza has a good matchup against the left-handed John Danks of the Chicago White Sox as although he has yet to face Danks in his career, Souza does have 4 homeruns and just 48 AB’s against lefties on the season. Danks has allowed RHB to have a .323 average and .586 slugging % against him on the season and I’m hoping that Souza will be able to have some success against him tonight.

Outfield – Christian Yelich – Miami Marlins

Christian Yelich was really struggling when he returned from the DL a few weeks ago, however has started to pick up as of late hitting .333 with a double, triple, and a homerun over his last three games. The Marlins recently have moved Yelich to the 3-spot in the batting order which means he now has the protection of Giancarlo Stanton behind him and should be seeing some good pitches to hit. Yelich has a good matchup on Friday against a struggling Kyle Kendrick (2-7, 6.16 ERA) in which he has posted a career .389 (7-18) average with 3 RBI’s against the right-hander.

Outfield – Mark Canha – Oakland Athletics

Mark Canha has been a nice surprise for the Oakland Athletics in 2015 as the left-fielder has hit .247 with 8 homeruns and 25 RBI’s. Canha has been doing well as of late as over the past week he has hit .368 with 2 doubles, 2 homeruns and 5 RBI’s. Canha will be up against the left-handed Hector Santiago of the Los Angeles Angels on Friday and although he is 0-2 lifetime against Santiago, Canha has hit .316 against the Angels on the season. Canha has struggled a bit against LHP on the season, but as he is swinging a hot bat at moment and his price-tag is reasonable, he is a good play tonight.
