Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight!

Pitcher – Doug Fister – Washington Nationals

There isn’t much to choose from when it comes to the pitchers available on Wednesday night and although Jon Lester against the Mets is enticing, I’m going save some money and go with Doug Fister of the Washington Nationals on Wednesday as he has a favorable matchup against the Atlanta Braves who are missing Freddie Freeman. Fister recently returned from the DL due to forearm tightness and pitched great against the Atlanta Braves as last Thursday he was able to go 7.0 innings giving up no runs on 4 hits while striking out 4. Atlanta has really struggled lately as they are averaging just 1.57 runs per game in their last seven games which included a 6-1 loss last night against Washington. Fister has loss a little bit of his zip on this fastball over the last couple of seasons and currently has a career worst 4.3 K/9 ratio, however, the lack of punch from the current Braves lineup is too tempting to pass up and I’m hoping Fister can put up a similar line as he did against the Braves last week and get us around 13-17 points on Wednesday.

Catcher – Matt Wieters – Baltimore Orioles

Matt Wieters missed the first two months of the season recovering from Tommy John Surgery and so far in June, the switch-hitting catcher is hitting .268 with 3 homeruns and 10 RBI’s. Wieters has yet to face Nick Martinez of the Texas Rangers but he should be hitting from the left-side of the plate in which Wieters has a .342 average and 1.056 OPS on the season. Nick Martinez has started to struggled a bit as of late and was roughed up in his recent outing giving up 8 ER (2 Homeruns) against the Blue Jays last Friday. Wieters will be at home at Oriole Park at Camden Yards and as this is one of the better hitter ball parks for LHB I think Wieters has a good chance of pleasing the home crowd and getting us a homerun on Wednesday.

First Base – Paul Goldschmidt – Arizona Diamondbacks

With the money saved at the Pitchers position, I’m able to splurge a bit with Paul Goldschmidt as my first baseman on Wednesday. Goldschmidt is having a monster season as the 4 year veteran currently is hitting .352 with 20 homeruns, 64 RBI’s, and 15 SB. Goldschmidt has a great matchup against the left-handed Brett Anderson of the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday as in his career, Goldschmidt has posted a .636 (7-11) average and 1.848 OPS. Goldschmidt is hitting .387 and has 5 homeruns in just 62 AB’s against LHP on the season and is currently hitting .425 with 4 homeruns and 12 RBI’s against the Dodgers in 2015. Goldschmidt is always a safe option if you can afford him but with his stats against Anderson and the Dodgers, it’s worth spending the money to get Goldschmidt in your lineups on Wednesday.

Second Base – Howie Kendrick – Los Angeles Dodgers

Howie Kendrick is having a nice first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers as the second baseman has posted a .291 average with 6 homeruns and 32 RBI’s. Kendrick has been hot as of late as he posted a .375 average over the last week and as he has had some success in limited exposure against Robbie Ray of the Arizona Diamondbacks. In his career against Ray, Kendrick has posted a .333 (1-3) average with a homerun against the left-handed pitcher. Kendrick has been solid against LHP posting a .286 average and .755 OPS and has fared well against the Diamondbacks on the season as he has posted a .308 average with a homerun and 6 RBI’s. Robbie Ray has pitched well in 2015 however, he does have a 1.40 WHIP at home on the season and with Kendrick swinging the bat well as of late, I like this matchup on Wednesday night.

Shortstop – Elvis Andrus – Texas Rangers

Elvis Andrus has had a tough 2015 season to date as he is currently hitting just .247 with 3 homeruns and 27 RBI’s however the veteran shortstop has picked up as of late hitting .357 over the past week and has a good matchup against Wei-Yin Chen of the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday. In his career against the left-handed Chen, Andrus has posted a career .545 (6-11) average and 1.343 OPS. Andrus has fared much better against LHP on the season as he currently has a .283 average and is coming off his best month of the season in June in which he had a .275 average and .704 OPS. Over the past three seasons, Andrus has hit .298 against the Orioles and although I don’t expect a huge game from Andrus, I’m hoping a few hits and maybe a SB on Wednesday.

Third Base – Justin Turner – Los Angeles Dodgers

Outside of Nolan Arenado of the Colorado Rockies, Justin Turner might be the hottest third baseman in MLB as of late. Turner is having a great season in which he is hitting .322 with 11 homeruns and 36 RBI’s and had an outstanding June in which he hitting .349 with 6 homeruns and 17 RBI’s as of his game on Tuesday night. Turner has yet to face the left-handed Robbie Ray of the Arizona Diamondbacks and although he actually struggled a LHP on the season but has fared well against the Arizona Diamondbacks as in 2015 he has a .400 (6-15) average and 1.338 OPS. Turner is hitting .336 during night-games and as Ray was known to give up homeruns in his short time with Detroit last season, I’m going with rolling the dice with Turner on Wednesday.

Outfield – Bryce Harper – Washington Nationals

Bryce Harper has been a bit banged up over the past few weeks but looked solid on Tuesday night going 2 for 5 with a double and is currently hitting .340 with 24 homeruns and 58 RBI’s in 2015. Harper had a huge May and June in which he hit 19 homeruns and has a favorable matchup against the right-handed Matt Wisler of the Atlanta Braves. Although Harper has yet to face Wisler in his career, Harper has absolutely crushed RHP on the season as he has a .341 average and 20 homeruns in 167 AB’s. Harper has hit the Braves hard so far this season as he has posted a .387 average and 1.278 OPS against Atlanta and as Wisler was only able to last 4.0 innings while giving up 9 hits and 4 ER against the Nationals last Wednesday, I like the chances for Harper and the Nationals to have a big day tonight.

Outfield – Kole Calhoun – Los Angeles Angels

Kole Calhoun is haven’t as good of a season as many projected as the left-handed hitting outfielder is hitting just .264 with 7 homeruns and 36 RBI’s however, I do like him on Wednesday as he has a solid matchup against a struggling Nathan Eovaldi of the New York Yankees. In his career against Eovaldi, Calhoun has posted a .600 (3-5) average with a walk and RBI. Eovaldi currently is posting a 4.81 ERA and 1.54 WHIP and was recently rocked against the Miami Marlins in which he last only 2/3 of an inning giving up 9 hits and 8 ER. Eovaldi is allowing LHB to have a .367 average against him and as Calhoun has been better at home (.280 average) so far this season, I like Calhoun in my lineup on Wednesday.

Outfield – Shin-Soo Choo – Texas Rangers

Shin-Soo Choo has struggled over the past couple of weeks, but has been great in his current series against the Orioles as he is hitting .444 (4-9) with 2 homeruns. On the season, Choo is only hitting .232 however he does have 10 homeruns and 34 RBI’s and has a solid matchup against the left-handed Wei-Yin Chen of the Orioles on Wednesday. In his limited experience against Chen, Choo has posted a career .500 (2-4) average with both of his hits being homeruns. Choo has struggled against LHP on the season however, I do like the fact that he is a LHB at Camden Yards and I’m willing to hope that he can continue to stay hot in Baltimore on Wednesday.
