Daily Fantasy Baseball – 7/2/15 (Late Games)

Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – 7/2/15 (Late Games)

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight!

Pitcher – Max Scherzer – Washington Nationals

I generally like to try and find a pitcher that I think is going to have a good night for a small price however, as their isn’t much out there besides Max Scherzer and for the fact that Scherzer has been lights out as of late, I’m going fork over the money to get Scherzer on my team on Thursday night. Scherzer is earning every penny of his large contract he received from the Nationals in the off season as the right-hander currently has a 1.79 ERA and 0.79 WHIP and is striking out 30.73% of the hitters he has face which ranks 4th among MLB pitchers. Scherzer has been absolutely dominant as of late as over his last three games, he has gone 26 innings which giving up just 2 ER while striking out 33 batters. Scherzer has a favorable matchup against the Atlanta Braves which have really had trouble scoring runs as of late (as I mentioned yesterday, the Braves have averaged just 1.57 runs in their last 7 games going into Wednesday’s night matchup) and although Atlanta does do a decent job of making contact with the ball, Scherzer still should be able to go at least 7 innings and get about 10 K’s on Thursday.

Catcher – Salvador Perez – Kansas City Royals

With the money I’m spending on Scherzer I’ll need to take some chances elsewhere and it will begin with Salvador Perez of the Kansas City Royals. Perez is having a decent season with the Royals as the veteran catcher is hitting .268 with 13 homeruns and 34 RBI’s. Perez has struggled against Minnesota’s Kyle Gibson in his career, however, he has fared much better against RHP on the season as he is hitting .286 against RHP compared to .235 against LHP. Perez is hitting .304 at home on the season and has hit .333 against the Twins in 2015. Perez hasn’t had that much success against Gibson in his career so you’ll want to make sure he gets the start on Thursday, however for a price tag of just $2400 and the power that he brings to the plate, he is worth a chance on Thursday.

First Base – Mike Napoli – Boston Red Sox

Mike Napoli is having a season to forget with the Red Sox as the veteran first-baseman is hitting just .198 with 10 homeruns and 30 RBI’s. Once again, I’m looking to try to save so money here and I like Napoli on Thursday as he has a very favorable matchup against the left-handed Matt Boyd of the Toronto Blue Jays. In his first career MLB start, Boyd struggled against the Texas Rangers as he gave up 4 ER, including 3 homeruns, in 6.2 IP. Napoli has done a bit better against LHP and goes have 5 homeruns against lefties in 63 AB’s (homerun per 12.6). Napoli has 7 homeruns at the Rodgers Center over his past three seasons and I’m hoping the rookie continues to serve up the long ball to Napoli on Thursday.

Second Base – Robinson Cano – Seattle Mariners

Robinson Cano finally had a breakout game on Wednesday against Jamie Shields and the San Diego Padres as the second baseman went 4 for 5 with a double, homerun, and 3 RBI’s. Cano has had a difficult season as he is hitting only .247 with 5 homeruns and 27 RBI’s but I’m hoping as he is facing another pitcher he has had plenty experience against in Oakland’s Scott Kazmir, that he can have similar results in which he had on Wednesday. In his career against Kazmir, Cano is only hitting .231 (9-39) but does have 3 homeruns against the left-hander. Cano is hitting .284 during night games on the season and has hit .328 in the month of July over his past three seasons.

Shortstop – Alcides Escobar – Kansas City Royals

Alcides Escobar is having a nice first season with the Kansas City Royals as he is hitting .278 with 2 homeruns and 28 RBI’s. Escobar has a nice matchup against Minnesota’s Kyle Gibson on Thursday as in this career, Escobar has posted a career .471 (8-17) average against the right-hander. Escobar is hitting .304 over the past week and has hit .294 against RHP on the season. Escobar continues to bat leadoff for the Kansas City Royals which provides him with some extra value and as better the success the Royals have had against Kyle Gibson along with the fact that Escobar does have some speed when he gets on the bases makes him a strong value play for a price tag of $2500 on Thursday.

Third Base – Mike Moustakas – Kansas City Royals

I’m going to stay in Kansas City and go with the Royals slugging third baseman, Mike Moustakas who is hitting .309 with 7 homeruns and 31 RBI’s so far in 2015. Moustakas has had some good success against Kyle Gibson of the Minnesota twins as in his career he has posted a .333 (5-15) average against the right-hander. Moustakas has been outstanding against RHP on the season as he currently has a .347 average and .901 OPS against righties. Moustakas has been a thorn in the side of Minnesota in 2015 as he currently has a .359 (14-39) average with a homerun and 5 RBI’s against the Twins. Moustakas is hitting .340 during night games on the season and for a reasonable price tag of $2700, he shows good value on Thursday.

Outfield – Mookie Betts – Boston Red Sox

Mookie Betts has been one of the few offensive bright spots for the Red Sox this season as the rookie center fielder is currently hitting .273 with 9 homeruns, 35 RBI’s, and 12 SB. Betts had an outstanding month of June as he finished the month with a .330 average and .942 OPS. Betts will be up against a rookie left-hander in Toronto’s Matt Boyd on Thursday in which based off Boyd’s first career start against the Rangers last week, I like the Red Sox’s offensive to have a decent day. Betts has been outstanding against Toronto as he is hitting .417 (15-36) against the Blue Jays in 2015 which included a homerun in their game on Wednesday afternoon. Betts has the ability to be able get us homeruns and SB’s and as he been great over the past few weeks, I’m going to hope his hot streak continues against the Blue Jays on Thursday.

Outfield – Mitch Moreland – Texas Rangers

Mitch Moreland is having a great season with Rangers as the first baseman (w/ Outfield Eligibility in Fan Duel) is hitting .300 with 14 homeruns and 43 RBI’s on the season. Moreland has been absolutely crushing RHP on the season as he has a .320 average and .998 OPS (12 HR’s & 37 RBI’s). Moreland has been great in his currently series against the Orioles as he is hitting .333 with 4 homeruns and 7 RBI’s. Moreland will be up against the right-handed Kevin Gausman on Thursday in which he has limited experience against as he is just 0 for 1 against the righty. Gausman is allowing LHB to hit .360 (9-25) against on the season and as Moreland will be once against hitting from the left side of the plate at the hitters friendly Camden Yards, I’m going to roll with him against on Thursday.

Outfield – Shin-Soo Choo – Texas Rangers

I was on top of picking Shin-Soo Choo last night in which he came through with a 1 for 3 performance with a homerun and I’m going to stick with him against for many of the same reasons why I picked Mitch Moreland. Choo is hitting just .233 on the season but does have 11 homeruns and 35 RBI’s on the season and has been great at Camden Yards on the season as he is currently hitting .444 (4-9) with 2 homeruns. Choo has yet to face the right-hander Kevin Gausman in his career, but has fared much better against RHP on the season as he has posted a .283 average compared to a .147 average against LHP. As Gausman has really struggled against LHB on the season and Choo has fared well at Camden Yards, I’m going to go with him for a second straight day in hopes that he can get me another homerun.
