Daily Fantasy Baseball – 7/5/15 (Late Games)
Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!
Pitcher – Eduardo Rodriguez – Boston Red Sox
I might be a little biased with this pick as I’ll be at Fenway this afternoon, but I’m still going to go with the Red Sox rookie left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez today. Rodriguez has pitched well this season as he has posted a 3.92 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and has 36 strikeouts in 41.1 IP. Rodriguez has good value/potential this afternoon as the Houston Astros rank 1st in MLB in total strikeouts and 2nd in total strikeouts versus LHP. Rodriguez is holding right-handed batters to just a .213 average this year and I think he’ll be able to go 7 innings while getting about 6-9 K’s today.
Catcher – Jonathan Lucroy – Milwaukee Brewers
Jonathan Lucroy has started to look like the hitter of last year as he is hitting .407 over the week which included 3 games of at least three or more hits. Lucroy is hitting only .250 with a homerun and 16 RBI’s on the season as he missed a good chunk of the season with a broken toe, however he has a great matchup against Mike Leake of the Cincinnati Reds in which in his career he has posted a .444 average and 1.075 OPS. Leake has struggled as of late and has given up 14 homeruns this year and I think Lucroy will be able to take one out at Great American Ball Park this afternoon.
First Base – Ryan Howard – Philadelphia Phillies
I was right on the money with taking Joe Mauer last night and I’m going to take another first baseman past his prime in Ryan Howard on Sunday. Howard is only hitting .220 on the season but has belted 13 homeruns and driven in 37 RBI’s. Howard has a tough matchup against Shelby Miller of the Atlanta Braves on Sunday, however in his career, Howard has posted a .455 average and 1.902 OPS (3 homeruns) against the right-hander. Howard has done better against RHP on the season and I’m hoping he can continue his homerun success against Miller this afternoon.
Second Base – Kolten Wong – St. Louis Cardinals
I was thinking Brain Dozer today at 2B however, I’m really going big on my outfield today so I couldn’t afford Dozier and decided to with Kolten Wong. Wong has struggled a bit as of late as he has hit only .136 over the past week but on the season Wong is hitting .280 with 9 homeruns and 36 RBI’s. Wong has a great matchup against Ian Kennedy today as although he hasn’t faced him in his career, Kennedy has really had a rough season as he has given up 17 homeruns in just 74.0 IP. I think Wong will be able to break out of his mini-slump in a big way on Sunday.
Shortstop – Ian Desmond – Washington Nationals
Ian Desmond has really had a tough year as the veteran shortstop is hitting just .215 with 7 homeruns and 24 RBI’s. As I mentioned above, I’m loading up on my outfield tonight and as Desmond has a favorable matchup against Ryan Vogelsong of the San Francisco Giants he is certainly worth a look today. Desmond has really struggled over the past week but he should be in the lineup tonight as he is hitting .400 with a double, triple, and a homerun against the right-hander in his career. Desmond has hit .333 against the Giants over the past three seasons and I’m going to roll the dice with him on Sunday.
Third Base – Trevor Plouffe – Minnesota Twins
Trevor Plouffe came through for me last night and I’m going to go with him again as I really like the Twins matchup against Danny Duffy of the Kansas City Royals. Plouffe is hitting .254 on the season but does have 10 homeruns and 43 RBI’s on the season. Plouffe is hitting .308 over the past week and although he hasn’t had great success against Duffy, Duffy is allowing RHB to hit .300 against him on the season. Plouffe has a .842 OPS against KC in 2015 and I’m hoping that he can have back to back big games.
Outfield – Mike Trout – Los Angeles Angels
Going big with my outfield on Sunday and it starts with Mike Trout who is currently hitting .300 on the season with 21 homeruns, 44 RBI’s and 9 SB. Trout has an outstanding matchup against Colby Lewis of the Texas Rangers as in his career he has posted a .364 average and 1.258 OPS against the right hander. Trout his 16 homeruns against RHP on the season and as Lewis gave up 3 homeruns in just 6.0 innings in his recent start against Baltimore, I think there is a good shot that Trout will be able to take one deep on Sunday.
Outfield – A.J. Pollock – Arizona Diamondbacks
I don’t think I’ve not taken at least one player that is going against Colorado’s Jorge De La Rosa this year and it’s not going to change today as I’m banking on A.J. Pollock a good day. A.J. Pollock is having a great season as he is hitting .304 with 10 homeruns, 38 RBI’s and 18 SB’s. Pollock hasn’t had the most success against De La Rosa in his career but is hitting an incredible .343 against LHP on the season. De La Rosa had a good outing against the Diamondbacks earlier this season however, De La Rosa still has a 1.48 WHIP on the season and I think the Diamondbacks will be able to get him this afternoon.
Outfield – Bryce Harper – Washington Nationals
With my last pick on this holiday weekend, I’m going with the man that displayed some fireworks yesterday in the Nationals Bryce Harper. Harper is hitting .344 with 25 homeruns and 60 RBI’s on the season and has started July off hot as he is hitting .417 so far this month. Harper will be facing Ryan Vogelsong in which he is just 1 for 8 off him in his career, however, Harper has been crushing RHP on the season as he has posted a .342 average and an incredible 1.224. Harper knows he is on the national stage tonight in the Sunday night baseball game and I think he will provide everyone another strong outing as he did yesterday.
