Daily Fantasy Baseball – 7/18/15

Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – 7/18/15 (Late Games)

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!

Pitcher – Jon Lester – Chicago Cubs

Some of the higher priced pitchers don’t have the greatest of matchups today so I’m going with left-handed Jon Lester as I like his chances against an Atlanta Braves offensive that still doesn’t have their biggest weapon in Freddie Freeman. Lester is having an average first season with the Cubs posting a 3.59 ERA and 1.26 WHIP with 109 strikeouts in 110.1 IP. Atlanta has struggled a bit against LHP on the season as they currently have a 24.6% strikeout rate and  are hitting just .236 (ranked 23rd in MLB) against lefties. Lester currently has an 8.9 K/9 ratio and a 23.49 strikeout rate so far in 2015. Lester has been consistent as of late going at least 7 innings in his last three games and  I think that he is a good spot coming off the All-Star break to have a solid game tonight against the Braves.

Catcher – Evan Gattis – Houston Astros

If you haven’t seen the homerun that Evan Gattis hit against Trevor Bauer before the break, you should take a look as it was probably one of the craziest homeruns I’ve seen this year as the pitch was miles above the plate and Gattis somehow got on top it to crush it out. Although it’s scary to know Gattis will swing at those types of pitches, there is no denying his raw power and that it what I’m going for tonight. Gattis is currently hitting .244 on the season but does have 15 homeruns and 54  RBI’s and has a decent matchup against Colby Lewis of the Texas Rangers in which he has hit .333 (2-6) against in his career. Lewis has really struggled as of late as in his last three starts he has gone 17 innings, giving up 16 ER on 23 hits (5 homeruns). Gattis had a good first game back from his break last night going 2-4 with a triple and run and I hope that he continue this type of hitting tonight.

First Base – Prince Fielder – Texas Rangers

Prince Fielder is having a monster season as he currently is hitting .340 with 14 homeruns and 54 RBI’s on the season and looks as if he is continue his strong season after going 2 for 5 last night. Fielder will be up against the right-handed Scott Feldman in which in his career he is hitting .308 (4-13) with 2 doubles, a homerun and 7 RBI’s. Fielder has been great against RHP on the season as he is currently posting a .382 average and .996 OPS. Feldman was rocked in his first appearance against the Rangers this season as he lasted only 3 innings while giving up 6 runs on 9 hits. I could see this game becoming a slugfest with Colby Lewis and Scott Feldman on the mound and I think Fielder is in a prime spot for a big night for a very reasonable price tag of $3400.

Second Base – Jason Kipnis – Cleveland Indians

Similar to Fielder, Jason Kipnis has been an absolute monster against RHP on the season and as he is playing at good hitters ball park in Cincinnati, I think he is a solid option tonight. Kipnis is currently hitting .322 on the season with 6 homeruns, 37 RBI’s and 10 SB and will be up against the right-handed Anthony DeSclafani in which he is 1 for 3 against in his career. Kipnis is currently has a .355 average and .984 OPS against RHP on the season and has dominated Cincinnati’s pitching staff this season as he has a .438 (7-16) average against the Reds. DeSclafani has been solid this year for the Reds but his overall numbers aren’t overly impressive and as he has posted a 5.11 ERA at home this season, I think Kipnis and some other Cleveland LHB could have a solid day on Saturday.

Shortstop – Erick Aybar – Los Angeles Angels

I’m going with Erick Aybar tonight not so much for the fact that he lights it up on the offensive side, but more for the fact that he is going against Rick Porcello of the Boston Red Sox who has been absolutely dreadful this season. Aybar comes into this matchup with a .284 average with 2 homeruns, 27 RBI’s and 6 SB on the season and has been hitting 5th in a dangerous Angels lineup. Aybar has been having a great month of July as the veteran shortstop is hitting .419 (18-49) during the month. Aybar has some good experience against Porcello as he is 5 for 25 lifetime against the RHP and as Porcello is currently allowing opposing batters to have a .297 average, I think Aybar could have some solid RBI chances tonight with Pujols and Trout hitting in front of him.

Third Base – Miguel Sano – Minnesota Twins

Miguel Sano has slowed down a bit from his blistering start to his MLB career, however the DH is still hitting .350 with 2 homeruns and 8 RBI’s in his 12 games he has played in this year. Sano has been one of the better hitting prospects over the past couple of years and has tremendous homerun power. Sano will be going up against the left-handed Scott Kazmir who struggled in his one start against the Twins this season as he gave up 6 runs on 7 hits (2 homeruns). Sano has struggled a bit against LHP in his limited experience so far but his potential for power is too tempting to pass up for a very affordable price tag of just $2600.

Outfield – J.D. Martinez – Detroit Tigers

J.D. Martinez has been on an absolute tear as of late and currently is hitting .288 with 26 homeruns and 60 RBI’s. In June & July, Martinez has hit a whopping 17 homeruns while batting over .300. Martinez will be going against Chris Tillman of the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday and although he is 0-3 lifetime against Tillman, he is hitting .294 with 21 homeruns against RHP on the season. Tillman has really struggled this season as has posted a 5.40 ERA and 1.56 WHIP and has allowed RHB’s to have a .314 average and .962 OPS against him. Martinez hasn’t shown any signs that he is going to slow down any time soon and I’m going to hope he continues his hot streak tonight against Baltimore.

Outfield – Ben Revere – Philadelphia Phillies

I’m going to go with the speedy Ben Revere tonight as I like his matchup against Tom Koehler. Revere is having a solid season as the left-fielder is hitting .297 with a homerun, 23 RBI’s and 21 SB’s. Revere has been great against Koehler as in his career he has a .474 average and .947 OPS against the RHP. Koehler is allowing LHB’s to have a .755 OPS against him and has struggled a bit on the road posting a 5.07 ERA in 9 starts this season. Revere is hitting .313 against RHP on the season and if he gets on base tonight, I can see him getting us a couple steals.

Outfield – Kyle Schwarber – Chicago Cubs

I had to go out last night to watch the Cubs game as I wanted to see Schwarber and he didn’t disappoint as the talented Cubs rookie went 3 for 4 with a double and run scored. In his 7 games in the Major Leagues, Schwarber has posted a .423 average with 1 homerun and 6 RBI’s. As I mentioned yesterday, there is no questioning Schwarber’s ability to hit as his only question marks come from the defensive side of the field. I will probably continue to take Schwarber while his price tag remains low as I have a feeling that it will continue to raise with each game the talented rookie plays.
