Daily Fantasy Baseball – 7/23/15 (Late Games)

Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – 7/23/15 (Late Games)

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!

Pitcher – Clayton Kershaw – Los Angeles Dodgers

$13,000! This is what it’s going to cost you to have the services of Clayton Kershaw tonight. Although this price tag is somewhat ridiculous, the southpaw has been absolutely dominant in his past two starts, getting an incredible 26 fantasy points in each start. Although it's alot of your salary, l feel that Kershaw is a must on my roster tonight as he is facing a very weak hitting Mets team. Even with a first-half that was not as stellar that we are used to from Kershaw, the lefty still is posting a great 2.68 ERA and 0.98 WHIP on the season while striking out 174 batters in 131.0 IP.  Kershaw currently has a 12.0 K/9 ratio (which at this point is a career best) and a strikeout rate of 33.66% which ranks 1st in MLB. On the season, the Mets ranked next to last in total runs scored and are dead last in batting average (.221) against LHP. The Dodgers will be facing the weakest of the Mets starting rotation in Bartolo Colon so I Kershaw should have a more the decent shot of picking up the win tonight. Kershaw is going to make us have to get creative with the offensive, but this matchup is too good to pass up and I’m banking for Kershaw third straight dominant performance tonight.

Catcher – Yadier Molina – St. Louis Cardinals

Basically, with the limited money I have left, I’m going to be stacking hitters from teams with good matchups and it begins with taking Yadier Molina of the St. Louis Cardinals as my catcher. Yadier Molina is hitting .290 on the season with 2 homeruns and 38 RBI’s and has played well since the All-Star break as in the past week he is hitting .360 (9-25). Molina and the Cardinals will be up against the very hittable right-hander, Jeremy Guthrie of the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night. In his career against Guthrie, Molina has posted a .444 (4-9) average. Molina has actually fared much better against RHP on the season as he is currently hitting .305 against RHP compared to a .247 average against LHP. I’ll get a little bit more into Guthrie stats later in the write-up, but for the fact that I need to find some bargain hitters tonight, I think Molina is solid play for the $2400 price tag.

First Base – Adrian Gonzalez – Los Angeles Dodgers

Adrian Gonzalez is going to be my highest priced offensive player tonight, but I think he is a solid choice as the first baseman has been great since the All-Star Break and has a nice matchup against Bartolo Colon of the New York Mets on Thursday. On the Gonzalez is hitting .292 with 21 homeruns and 60 RBI’s and has been hot as of late posting a .417 (10-24) with 3 homeruns over the past week. Gonzalez has had success against Colon in the past and has posted a solid .429 average and 1.238 OPS against the right-hander in his career. Colon has really struggled in both June and July and currently is posting a 4.86 ERA and 1.28 WHIP on the season. Colon has had difficulties against LHB’s as he is allowing LHB’s to have a .307 average and .773 OPS against him. Gonzalez has been at his best away from home (.296 average) and during night games (.307 average) and I think he’ll have a good opportunity along with other LHB’s from the Dodgers to have a big night.

Second Base – Kolten Wong – St. Louis Cardinals

Kolten Wong is having a solid season with the Cardinals as the second baseman is currently hitting .268 with 10 homeruns and 38 RBI’s. Wong has struggled as of late as he is only hitting .175 in July, but I like his matchup against Jeremy Guthrie tonight and think that his price tag shows good value. Wong has limited experience against Guthrie, but in his career has posted a .667 (2-3) average with a triple. Jeremy Guthrie has pitched well in July, but don’t get fooled as Guthrie is very hittable and can certainly give up runs in bunches at any moment. On the season, Guthrie has posted a 5.36 ERA and 1.52 WHIP and has struck out just 53 batters in 100.2 IP. Guthrie hasn’t had much luck against LHB’s on the season as he is allowing LHB’s to have a .333 average and .925 OPS against him. Wong has been better against RHP as he has a .280 average and has hit 9 of his 10 homeruns against RHP and I’m hoping that he can break out of his slump with a big game against Guthrie.

Shortstop – Francisco Lindor – Cleveland Indians

I’m not sold on Lindor as a great or even good MLB hitter as of yet, but the rookie shortstop has looked good at the plate over the past few games and as I need to conserve money, I like his value for the $2400 price tag on Thursday night. Since being called up in Mid-June, Lindor is hitting .246 with 3 homeruns and 11 RBI’s however, he is hitting .368 (7-19) with a homerun over his past 4 games. Lindor will be up against Jeff Samardzija of the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night in which he has yet to face in his young career. Samardzija has started to pitch better as of late but did give up 4 runs (2 homeruns) on 7 hits in a 4-2 loss against the Royals in his recent start. Samardzija is currently allowing RHB’s to have a .264 average against him on the season and has struggled on the road in 2015, posting a 5.29 ERA. Lindor is certainly a reach, but he is batting in the 2-hole for the Indians and if he can get on base tonight, I think Brantley and the other LHB’s of the Indians will be able to drive him in.

Third Base – Matt Carpenter – St. Louis Cardinals

Matt Carpenter is having a summer to forget as the usually dependable Carpenter is now hitting just .256 on the season with 9 homeruns and 45 RBI’s. Carpenter is too good of a hitter to be hitting below .200 in the months of June and July, however, due to his struggles, his price-tag has actually dipped below the $3000 line which makes him a good value play tonight. Carpenter gets the great matchup against Jeremy Guthrie who I’ve mentioned has struggled against LHB’s on the season. In his career against Guthrie, Carpenter has posted a career .600 (3-5) average with a double. Carpenter is hitting a respectable .280 against RHP’s on the season and I don’t expect to be much longer until we start seeing the Matt Carpenter of April (.372 average, 3 homeruns, 14 RBI’s) again.

Outfield – Joc Pederson – Los Angeles Dodgers

Joc Pederson didn’t have the monster game I was hoping for yesterday, but I’m going back with the slugging rookie as I like his matchup against Bartolo Colon. Pederson is hitting just .227 on the season and has been striking out in bunches as of late, however, there is no denying the power that he has in his bat and has already hit 20 homeruns this season. As I mentioned with Adrian Gonzalez, Colon is allowing LHB’s to hit above .300 against on the season and has given up 14 homeruns in 109.1 IP on the season. Pederson is basically a huge boom/bust pick but as I feel that Pederson should be able to handle the arsenal of Colon, I think he could have a multi-HR day on Thursday night.

Outfield – Andre Either – Los Angeles Dodgers

As you can see, I’m hoping that Bartolo Colon continues with his recent struggles and I’m going with another LHB of the Dodgers in Andre Either.  Ethier his having a solid season as the right-fielder is currently hitting .284 with 10 homeruns and 33 RBI’s. Ethier has been solid as of late as he is hitting .371 in the month of July and has hit .316 over the past week. Ethier has fared well against the right-handed Colon as in his career he has posted a .500 (3-6) average with a double and homerun. Basically all of Ethier’s power has come against RHP’s on the season as against RHP’s he is hitting .288 and has .872 OPS. Either has been a great pick against RHP all season and I hope that this continues tonight against a struggling Bartolo Colon.

Outfield – David Murphy – Cleveland Indians

I only have $2200 left in the budget at this point and will go with David Murphy of the Cleveland Indians as he should be getting the start against the right-handed Jeff Samardzija tonight and has some success of him in limited chances in his career. Murphy is currently hitting .305 on the season with 5 homeruns and 26 RBI’s and in his career against Samardzija, has posted a .667 (2-3) average. Murphy is hitting .306 against RHP’s on the season and has an impressive .340 average at Progressive Field in 2015. Murphy is hitting .308 (4-13) with a homerun against the White Sox this season and although I’m not expecting a huge game from Murphy, he certainly has the ability to get a homerun at the lowest price tag possible in FanDuel.
