Daily Fantasy Baseball – 7/26/15

Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.

USA TODAY Sports

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!

Pitcher – Mat Latos – Miami Marlins

I’m going to once against load up on my offensive players today (especially Cincinnati hitters) so I’m going to go with a value pick in the Marlins Mat Latos in a good matchup against the San Diego Padres on Sunday. Mat Latos comes into this matchup with a 4.48 ERA and 1.26 WHIP while striking out 74 batters in 82.1 IP. Latos is currently posting a 8.1 K/9 ratio and has a great matchup against the San Diego Padres who rank 2nd in MLB in total strikeouts against RHP. Latos has been solid as of late as in his last three starts he has gone 20 innings, giving up 3 ER’s while striking out 18 hitters. Latos is currently holding the current Padres lineup to a .241 average with really the only trouble coming against Justin Upton. If Latos can handle Upton, I think he could have another solid day at a good pitchers park and get us around 15-18 fantasy points tonight.

Catcher – Brayan Pena – Cincinnati Reds

After going through my whole lineup, I needed to find value at the Catchers position and decided to go with Brayan Pena of the Cincinnati Reds. Pena is hitting .275 on the season but doesn’t have any homeruns and has just 11 RBI’s. Pena has never had much power, but he can generate some and if he is going to get his first homerun on the season, it’s a good chance that it happens against Kyle Kendrick of the Colorado Rockies. Kendrick has really had a tough season as he currently is posting a 6.12 ERA and 1.50 WHIP which includes a 6.89 ERA. Kendrick has been destroyed by the homerun ball as he has given up a whopping 24 homeruns in just 107.1 IP. Pena is quite a reach, but he is hitting .333 over his last three games and I’m hoping that he will finally be able to get some extra base hits today at Coors Field.

First Base – Joey Votto – Cincinnati Reds

I’m going to stay with Cincinnati and go with the Joey Votto who has been on an absolute tear since the All-Star break. Votto is currently hitting .304 on the season with 18 homeruns and 48 RBI’s. Votto is hitting .386 so far in the month of July and is hitting an incredible .536 over the week. Similar to Pena, Votto’s matchup is great on Sunday as he is against the right-handed Kyle Kendrick of the Rockies. Votto has been great against RHP on the season as he is posting a .309 average and .977 OPS against righties on the season. In his career against Kendrick, Votto has posted a career .333 average and 1.011 OPS. Kendrick is currently allowing LHB’s to have a .310 average and .963 OPS against him. Votto has collected at least 2 or more hits in each of his last 5 games and I expect this hot streak to continue on Sunday.

Second Base – Ben Zobrist – Oakland Athletics

Ben Zobrist helped is trade value with a big game yesterday against the Giants and I think as he has a good matchup against the right-handed Tim Hudson on Sunday, he is solid pick for fantasy today. Zobrist is hitting .264 on the season with 6 homeruns and 33 RBI’s and has a career .333 (2-6) average against Tim Hudson. Zobrist is hitting just .240 against RHP’s on the season but has collected all 6 of his homeruns from the left-side of the plate. Hudson has struggled against LHB’s on the season as he is allowing LHB’s to have a .314 average and .808 OPS against him. Zobrist is hitting .318 over the past week with 3 doubles, a triple and homerun and as he is hitting .571 at AT&T Park this season, I’m hoping he can continue with these type of results on Sunday.

Shortstop – Troy Tulowitzki – Colorado Rockies

Troy Tulowitzki is in the midst of a pretty big slump as he is 0 for his last 15 with 2 BB, however, even with the recent slump, the veteran shortstop is hitting .305 with 12 homeruns and 52 RBI’s on the season. Tulowitzki will be up against the right-handed Michael Lorenzen of the Cincinnati Reds in which he is 1 for 3 against him in his career. Lorenzen has struggled more as of late and has only made it through the 6th inning once in his last four starts. Lorenzen has been decent against RHB’s however, he has never pitched at Coors Field where Tulowitzki has hit .354 over his past three seasons. It will only be a matter a time until Tulowitzki breaks out of his slump and I’m hoping that he does so on Sunday afternoon against the Reds.

Third Base – Todd Frazier – Cincinnati Reds

Frazier continues to pay off although he has a high price tag, and I’m going to go with the homerun champion for a third straight day. Frazier is having a great season as he has posted a .279 average with 27 homeruns and 67 RBI’s. Frazier will be up against Kyle Kendrick of the Rockies who I’ve mentioned in the Pena and Votto write-ups, has struggled for most of the season. Kendrick is allowing opposing batters to have a .300 average against him on the season and is allowing RHB’s to post a .292 average and .869 OPS. Frazier has only posted a .214 (3-14) average against Kendrick however he does have a double and homerun. Kendrick has struggled with homeruns all season and I don’t think it’s going to get any easier at Coors Field against Frazier on Sunday.

Outfield – Adam Jones – Baltimore Orioles

Adam Jones is having a solid season with Orioles as he is posting a .286 average with 15 homeruns and 44 RBI’s and he has a great matchup against the left-handed Matt Moore of the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday. Jones has been great against Moore in his career as he has posted a .474 (9-19) average with 2 homeruns and 7 RBI’s. Moore has had trouble since returning from injury and on the season is currently posting a 7.23 ERA and 1.88 WHIP. Moore is allowing RHB’s to have a .333 average and .900 OPS on the season. Jones has only had 67 AB’s against LHP on the season but has made the most of his opportunities as he currently as posted a .328 average and .952 OPS against lefties. Jones collected two hits in yesterday’s game and I’m hoping that he can collect at least two more on Sunday.

Outfield – Marlon Byrd – Cincinnati Reds

Similar to Todd Frazier, I’ve gone with Marlon Byrd throughout his series against Colorado as his for some reason his price tag ($3200) didn’t have a major increase like his teammates while he is at Coors Field. Byrd is hitting just .248 on the season but he has displayed his power as he collected 16 homeruns and 34 RBI’s so far on the season. As I’ve mentioned throughout the article, Kendrick has really been awful on the season and although Byrd is only 1 for 7 lifetime against the right-hander, the one hit was a homerun. Byrd is hitting .294 in the month of July and .286 so far in this series with a triple and two runs scored. If I had more salary left, I would go with Jay Bruce, however, I still think Byrd is a value play today against Kendrick.

Outfield – Ryan Raburn – Cleveland Indians

I went with Raburn yesterday against Sale (A major reach) and although it wasn’t a big game, he did collect a base hit and RBI. Raburn should be in the lineup against today as he is going up against the left-handed Carlos Rodon of the White Sox. Raburn is currently hitting .277 with 4 homeruns and 22 RBI’s on the season and has fared well against Rodon in his career as he is 2 for 3 with a double, 2 BB’s, and 2 RBI’s. Rodon has a ton of talent but really struggled in his last outing against the Cardinals (4.0 IP, 7 H, 7 ER) and is allowing RHB’s to post a .297 average and .848 OPS against him on the season. Raburn basically will only see at-bats against LHP but as he has a .295 average with all 4 of his homeruns against LHP, he is a good value play at $2200 today.
