Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.
USA TODAY Sports
Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!
Pitcher – Chris Archer - Tampa Bay Rays
Chris Archer has shown everyone in MLB that he is a true ace as the right hander is currently posting a 2.54 ERA and 0.99 WHIP while striking out 180 batters in 148.2 IP. Archer currently has a 10.9 K/9 ratio and a strikeout rate of 30.66% (Ranked 3rd in MLB). Archer is currently holding his opponents to a .207 batting average and as he is playing in a decent pitchers park this afternoon, he is a solid choice for Sunday afternoon.
Catcher – Victor Martinez - Detroit Tigers
Victor Martinez has battle some injuries this year however the switch hitting DH is hitting .333 over his last three games with 3 homeruns and 7 RBI's. Martinez's season stats aren't overly eye popping as he is hitting just .247 with 9 homeruns and 45 RBI's, however, he is solid play today as he is facing a left-hander in the Red Sox's recently called up rookie, Henry Owens. On the season, Martinez has posted a .343 average and .863 OPS against LHP and has fared well in day games as he posted a .306 average.
First Base – Paul Goldschmidt – Arizona Diamondbacks
I went with Goldschmidt last night and I will most likely keep going with him while his salary stays below the $4000 mark. Goldschmidt is in the midst of a mini-slump as the slugging first baseman is hitting just .125 (3-24) over the past week, but that is no reason to shy away from him as Goldschmidt is still hitting .332 on the season with 22 homeruns, 78 RBI's and 19 SB. Goldschmidt will be up against the right-handed Anthony DeSclafani of the Cincinnati Reds this afternoon and although Goldschmidt has yet to face DeSclanfani in his career, he is hitting .318 with 15 homeruns and 58 vs. RHP on the season. Goldschmidt will be at home at a good hitters park on Sunday and as he has posted a .341 average and 1.034 OPS at home, he is a great play on Sunday.
Second Base – Addison Russell - Chicago Cubs
Addison Russell is one of the many talented rookies that the Cubs have in their arsenal and although I don't love the fact that he is still hitting 9th in the order, I'm going to need to conserve some money to be able to afford some other quality hitters. Russell is hitting .241 with 7 homeruns and 29 RBI's however, has been hitting better as of late as he is hitting .292 with 2 doubles and a homerun over the past week. Russell will be up against Jake Peavy of the San Francisco Giants on Sunday in which he hasn't faced in his short career. Russell has fared much better against RHP on the season as he has posted a .262 average and .724 OPS. Russell is hitting .417 with a homerun and 2 RBI's against the Giants on the season and I'm hoping that this success continues tonight.
Shortstop – Eugenio Suarez – Cincinnati Reds
Eugenio Suarez has done a fine job filling in for the injured Zack Cozart as the scrappy shortstop is hitting .306 with 6 homeruns and 24 RBI's on the season. Suarez has been hot as of late as he is hitting .333 over the past week with 3 doubles and a homerun. Cozart will be up against the left-handed Patrick Corbin who is coming off his worst start of the season as he lasted just 1.1 innings giving up 3 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks. Suarez hasn't faced Corbin in his career however has posted a .836 OPS against left-hand pitching on the season and has great value with a $2300 price tag.
Third Base – Kris Bryant - Chicago Cubs
I'm tempted to go with Todd Frazier again as he is going up against in another LHP, however, I'm going to go with the hotter hitter in the Cubs Kris Bryant. Bryant is hitting .248 with 15 homeruns and 64 RBI's on the season and has found his bat as of late as he is hitting .316 with a homerun and 4 RBI's over the past week. Similar to Addison Russell, Bryant has yet to face the right-handed Jake Peavy in his career, however, does have a .802 OPS against RHP on the season. Bryant has fared much better at home on the season as he has posted a .278 average and .969 OPS at Wrigley Field and although Peavy has pitched well this season, the pure power of Bryant can't be denied and is worth the small tag of $3100.
Outfield – Mike Trout - Los Angeles Angels
I went Mike Trout last night and although he didn't have one of his monster games, I'm going with the AL MVP favorite once again as he has a great matchup against the right-handed Miguel Gonzalez of the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. Trout is hitting .305 with 33 homeruns, 69 RBI's and 10 SB on the season and although he is hitting just .231 (3-13) against Gonzalez in his career, all three of his hits have been homeruns. Trout is has a .304 average and 1.102 OPS against RHP on the season as usual, is always a safe play in all fantasy formats.
Outfield – Jason Werth - Washington Nationals
I don't have much salary left so I'm really going to have some value with my remaining OF positions today and it's starts with taking a gamble on the Nationals Jason Werth. Werth has battle injuries this year and is having a 2015 season to forget as he is hitting just .188 with 2 homeruns and 15 RBI's on the season. I'm going with Werth today as he has a solid matchup against the left-handed Yohan Flande of the Colorado Rockies who is currently posting a 6.75 ERA during day games this year. Werth has .353 average and 1.102 OPS against left-hand pitching over the past three years and I hope that he brings out of his slump on Sunday.
Outfield – Josh Reddick - Oakland Athletics
Josh Reddick is hitting .281 on the season with 13 homeruns and 58 RBI's and although he is hitting just .167 over the past week, he has a good matchup against the right-handed Mike Fiers of the Milwaukee Brewers. Fiers was acquired by the Houston Astros at the trade deadline and will be hoping to put together a better start then he did in his first start against Texas as he gave up 6 runs on 7 hits and three walks. Reddick has been great against RHP on the season as he has posted a .312 average and .867 OPS and as he is hitting .292 during day games, he is a great value play at $2400 on Sunday.
