Daily Fantasy Baseball – 8/10/15

Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – 8/10/15

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!

Pitcher – Chris Sale – Chicago White Sox

Chris Sale has struggled in his last two outings however, I’m still going to pick the left-hander tonight as he still is the best pitcher available and is playing the Angels who have actually struggled a bit against LHP on the season. Sale has seen his ERA jump from 2.85 to 3.52 over his last two starts but is still posting a 1.08 WHIP and has 186 strikeouts in 143.0 IP.  Sale is one of the best strikeout pitchers in the league as he comes into this match-up with an 11.7 K/9 ratio and has a strikeout rate of 32.07% (2nd in MLB). The Angels are currently hitting just .240 against LHP on the season that ranked 24th in MLB. The current Angels roster is hitting just .097 (6-62) against Sale in his career. The Angels have some big right-handed bats in their lineup in Trout and Pujols but as Sale is 3-0 with a 1.55 ERA against the Angels over the past three years I think he is worth the high cost tonight.

Catcher – Salvador Perez – Kansas City Royals

Salvador Perez’s price tag has finally risen above the $2200 mark as the All-Star catcher has been on a tear over the past week hitting .368 with a double, homerun and 5 RBI’s. Although you can’t get him super cheap anymore, Perez still has a good value in a favorable matchup against the left-handed Matt Boyd of the Detroit Tigers on Monday. On the season, Perez is hitting .249 with 16 homeruns and 48 RBI’s. Boyd pitched well against the same Kansas City Royals just last Wednesday in his first start as a Detroit Tiger, however, this still is a pitcher coming in with a 7.90 ERA and 1.68 WHIP and has given up 5 homers in just 13.2 IP on the season. Perez hasn’t fared as well against LHP on the season and although he went 0-3 against Boyd in the game last Wednesday, I think Perez and the Royals will have a much better offensive night now that they’ve all have recently seen Boyd.

First Base – Paul Goldschmidt – Arizona Diamondbacks

This will be the third straight day that I’m going to go with Paul Goldschmidt and I imagine after his 3-4 performance last night with 2 R, 2 2B, BB, and a RBI, that this will be the last night we will be able to get the slugging first baseman for a ridiculous low price tag of just $3700. Goldschmidt is hitting .337 on the season with 22 homeruns, 79 RBI’s and 19 SB and has had good success against the right-handed Aaron Harang of the Philadelphia Phillies who he will be up against tonight. In his career against Harang, Goldschmidt is posting a .400 (6-15) average and a 1.505 OPS. Goldschmidt is hitting .324 against RHP on the season and has posted a .349 average and 1.055 OPS at home on the season. Goldschmidt is one of the best players in the majors and for this price, there is absolutely no good reason why you don’t have him in your lineups tonight.

Second Base – Cesar Hernandez – Philadelphia Phillies

Cesar Hernandez has been outstanding since taking over the starting duties at second base for the Philadelphia Phillies. Hernandez is currently hitting .287 with a homerun, 26 RBI’s and 17 SB in 282 AB’s on the season. Hernandez has been great of late as he is hitting .391 over the past week and has collected at least 2 hits in 7 of his last 10 games. Hernandez will be up against Rubby De La Rosa of the Arizona Diamondbacks who comes into this matchup with a 4.56 ERA and 1.28 WHIP. Hernandez has yet to face De La Rosa in his career, but as De La Rosa is allowing LHB’s to have a .305 average and .932 OPS against him on the season, this could be a solid matchup for Hernandez tonight. Hernandez is hitting .364 so far in August and as the 2B has some decent speed in his legs, makes him a solid play tonight.

Shortstop – Jose Reyes – Colorado Rockies

Reyes has been nothing more than average since the Rockies acquired him in the blockbuster trade that sent Tulowitzki to the Blue Jays but is still worth a look on Monday as he has collected a hit in 5 of his last 6 games and is going up against LHP. On the season, Reyes is hitting .275 with 4 homeruns, 37 RBI’s, and 18 SB and as he still has some decent power hitters right behind in the order in Carlos Gonzalez and Nolan Arenado, it gives it a decent chance to score some runs if he can get on base. Reyes hasn’t had the most success against the left-handed Jonathon Niese of the New York Mets when it comes to his average, however he has posted a .313 OBP against Niese. Reyes still has the speed to cause some trouble on the base paths, and as the SS position is pretty weak tonight, I think Reyes is your best option.

Third Base – Mike Moustakas – Kansas City Royals

Mike Moustakas has had a tough August as he has battled a knee injury and is hitting just .118 on the month, however as the third baseman got a day of rest yesterday and as a good matchup against Matt Boyd of the Tigers, I think he has great value for the $2200 price tag. Moustakas is hitting .275 on the season with 10 homeruns and 40 RBI’s and hasn’t been terrible against LHP on the season posting a .241 average and .651 OPS. In his matchup against Boyd last week, Moustakas was able to go 1-3 with a double. Even after his decent outing against the Royals last week, Boyd is still allowing LHB’s to have a .480 (12-25) average and 1.342 OPS against him. As I mentioned with Perez, I think the Royals are going to have much more success against Boyd in tonight’s matchup and I like Moustakas as a solid value play tonight.

Outfield – Justin Upton – San Diego Padres

Justin Upton is hitting .333 (7-21) over the past week with a double, triple, and homerun and as he has a good matchup against the left-handed David Holmberg of the Cincinnati Reds, I’m surprised to see him with just a $3100 price-tag on Monday. On the season, Upton is hitting .251 with 19 homeruns, 60 RBI’s, and 18 SB and in his career against Holmberg is 1-1 with a walk and 2 RBI’s. Upton has actually been pretty awful against LHP on the season hitting at just a .162 mark, however as he has recorded a .926 OPS against LHP over the past three years, this doesn’t scare me away from his matchup tonight. Upton has fared well at PETCO Park on the season hitting .301 with 14 of his 19 homeruns and I expect another good performance in front of the home crowd tonight.

Outfield – Jay Bruce – Cincinnati Reds

If you’ve read my article before, you know I’m going to have at least one player in against Ian Kennedy if he is on the mound, and it starts today with Jay Bruce. Bruce has really struggled as of late as he has season average drop to .248 after hitting just .080 over the past week. The good news for Bruce is that he still does have 17 homeruns and 61 RBI’s on the season and will be going up against Kennedy who is no stranger to giving up HR’s. Kennedy has pitchers better as of late but is still posting a 4.49 ERA and 1.27 WHIP while giving up 24 homeruns in just 110.1 IP. Kennedy has given up at least a homerun in each of his last 10 games and is allowing opposing hitters to have a .261 average and .518 slugging percentage against him.  Bruce has never been a good hitter when it comes to average, but he certainly still has some power in his swing and I think he is going to break out of his slump against Kennedy and the Padres tonight.

Outfield – Marlon Byrd – Cincinnati Reds

I’m going to stay with the Cincinnati Reds and go with Marlon Byrd as my last OF pick of the night. Byrd is hitting just .246 on the season but does have 19 homeruns and 41 RBI’s and closed out of his recent series against the Diamondbacks well going 3 for 7 with a double, homerun and 2 RBI’s over the weekend. Byrd will also be going against Ian Kennedy of the San Diego Padres in which I mentioned above, has had trouble keeping the ball in the ballpark this season. In his career against Kennedy, Byrd has had some success as he has posted a .278 (5-18) average with 2 homeruns and 7 RBI’s. Byrd has collected 15 of his 19 homeruns against RHP on the season and as Kennedy is allowing RHB’s to have a .859 OPS against him this season, I think Byrd is a decent option tonight.
