Daily Fantasy Baseball – 8/12/15 (Late Games)

Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – 8/12/15 (Late Games)

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!

Pitcher – Jacob DeGrom – New York Mets

Jacob DeGrom is having another great year for the Mets as the 2nd year pitcher is currently posting a 2.13 ERA and 0.89 WHIP while striking out 142 batters in 139.2 IP. DeGrom has a great matchup tonight against the Colorado Rockies who have struggled recently on offensive as they are hitting just .215 over the past week and have hit just .239 on the road all season. DeGrom, as he displayed in his inning of work in the All-Star game, has the arsenal that can strike hitters out and currently has a 9.2 K/9 ratio and a strikeout percentage of 26.35% (ranked 9th among qualified MLB starters). DeGrom is holding opposing hitters to a .202 average and has been great at Citi Field on the season posting a 1.60 ERA. The current Colorado roster is hitting just .105 (2-19) against DeGrom. The Mets have been on a roll as of late now that they have at least a little firepower in their offensive lineup and although DeGrom will cost you $11,300 for his services, I think he has a dominant game and goes at least 7 innings, picking up 8-10 K’s and gets us the win.

Catcher – Travis D’Arnaud – New York Mets

Travis D’Arnaud has missed the majority of this season due to injury and in his limited action this year has hit .277 with 5 homeruns and 18 RBI’s. D’Arnaud is up against the left-handed Jorge De La Rosa of the Colorado Rockies tonight in which in his career, he is hitting .333 (1-3) against. D’Arnaud has looked solid since returning from his recent DL stint and is hitting .286 (4-14) with 3 runs scored and a homerun over the past week. D’Arnaud has had limited exposure against LHP on the season so I’m not scared off by his low batting average against LHP on the season. De La Rosa has posted a 4.85 ERA and 1.40 WHIP on the season and although he has pitched well on the road, I still think this is a decent matchup for the RHB’s of the Mets. D’Arnaud has collected at least one hit in 5 of his last 6 games played and as certainly has some decent homerun power, I’ll roll the dice with him on Wednesday night.

First Base – Prince Fielder – Texas Rangers

I’m going with Prince Fielder today as my first baseman as the Fielder and the other LHB’s of the Texas Rangers have a nice matchup against the right-handed Mike Pelfrey of the Minnesota Twins. Fielder is having a great season with the Rangers as he is currently hitting .327 with 17 homeruns and 66 RBI’s and has been crushing RHP, posting a .364 average and .951 OPS against righties on the season. In his career against Pelfrey, Fielder is hitting .357 (10-28) and has 3 homeruns and 12 RBI’s (1.156 OPS). Pelfrey always has the potential of getting hit hard as he has given up at least 7 runs in 3 of his last 10 starts including a poor 3.2 innings performance recently against Cleveland in which he gave up 7 runs on 10 hits. Pelfrey is allowing opposing hitters to have a .296 average against him on the season and although he has pitched better at home on the season, I still feel that Fielder and the LHB’s of Texas are in for a nice night.

Second Base – Addison Russell – Chicago Cubs

Addison Russell has officially taken over the shortstop duties from Starling Castro so he probably won’t be eligible for the second base much longer and I’m going to roll with him tonight as I need to conserve my money and I like the Cubs matchup against Matt Garza of the Milwaukee Brewers. Russell is hitting .241 on the season with 7 homeruns and 30 RBI’s and has picked it up as of late as he is hitting .286 (6-21) with 2 doubles and 3 RBI’s over the past week. Russell is 0-3 lifetime against Garza, however, has Garza is allowing the current Cubs roster to hit .289 against him, I think Russell will have a few opportunities to score some runs and/or drive in some RBI’s. Garza is allowing opposing hitters to have a .281 average against him on the season and has really struggled on the road posting a 6.40 ERA. Russell has better splits against RHP and at Wrigley Field on the season and for the cost of just $2300, Russell is a decent value play tonight.

Shortstop – Erick Aybar – Los Angeles Angels

For another value play, I’m going with Erick Aybar of the Los Angeles Angels as I feel that Angels bats will wake up a bit against the left-handed John Danks of the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night. Aybar’s biggest appeal when it comes to fantasy is the fact that you know there is a good chance that he will have RISP as he bats 5th in the Angels order, behind Calhoun, Trout, and Pujols. Aybar is hitting .272 on the season with 2 homeruns, 35 RBI’s and 8 SB. Aybar had a monster July month hitting .337 and although he is struggling a bit in August so far, does have a .298 average against LHP’s on the season. Danks has pitched better over the last month of so but this is still a pitcher that is posting a 4.79 ERA and 1.44 WHIP while allowing RHB’s to post a .314 average and .877 OPS against him. Aybar is certainly not a guarantee but as he will cost just $2200 to get in your lineups, is showing great value tonight.

Third Base – Miguel Sano – Minnesota Twins

Miguel Sano has done a great job since being called up to the major leagues and in his 32 games played is hitting .275 with 5 homeruns and 19 RBI’s. Sano has had some issues with strikeouts but there is no denying the power that he can generate as he has to ability to hit a homerun with any swing of the bat. Sano has a decent matchup against the right-handed Nick Martinez of the Texas Rangers on Wednesday who comes into the matchup with a 3.91 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. Martinez had a great start to his 2015 season, but has seen his ERA almost double over his last 10 starts and really isn’t the quality of pitcher that his numbers suggested earlier this season. Sano has been great against RHP on the season as he posted a .311 average, .429 OBP, .608 slugging percentage, and a 1.037 OPS. Although Martinez is a right-hander, he has actual has really struggled against RHB’s allowing RHB’s to post a .298 average and .884 OPS on the season. Sano was 2 for 3 with a double, RBI, and a BB in the first game of the series last night and I won’t be surprised if he has another big night on Wednesday.

Outfield – Lorenzo Cain – Kansas City Royals

Lorenzo Cain is having a career year as the Royals center fielder is currently hitting .316 with 12 homeruns, 51 RBI’s and 20 SB on the season. Cain has been outstanding against LHP’s on the season and will be seeing the rookie left-hander, Daniel Norris of the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday. Against LHP’s on the season, Cain has an incredible offensive line of a .362 average, .428 OBP, .608 Slugging Percentage, and a 1.036 OPS. Norris, the highly rated prospect acquired by the Tigers in the David Price deal is currently posting a 4.24 ERA and 1.44 WHIP and although he has all the tools to become a top of the rotation starter, still is learning his control at the MLB level. Norris is allowing opponents to post a .277 average and .801 OPS against him on the season. Cain is hitting .330 at Kaufmann Stadium on the season and as he is hitting .417 (10-24) with three doubles, a triple, and homerun over the past week, he is safe play to put on your roster tonight.

Outfield – Mitch Moreland – Texas Rangers

Mitch Moreland is having the best year in his career with the Rangers in 2015 as the first baseman (which still has OF eligibility) is hitting .290 with 16 homeruns and 57 RBI’s on the season. Moreland has a solid matchup against the right-handed Mike Pelfrey of the Minnesota Twins as Moreland has been a monster against right-handed pitching on the season posting a .305 average, .554 slugging percentage, and a .905 OPS. Moreland has 14 of his 16 homeruns against RHP on the season and although he is just 2 for 9 against Pelfrey in his career, one of those hits was a homerun. As I mentioned in the Price Fielder write-up, Pelfrey is allowing opposing hitters to have a .296 average against him this season (.291 vs. LHB; .300 vs. RHB). Moreland is hitting .311 with 11 of his homeruns on the road this season as they travel to a hitter’s ball park in Target Field, I think Moreland is a good play tonight.

Outfield – Chris Coghlan – Chicago Cubs

We’ll have to watch to ensure that Coghlan gets another start at second base tonight, however, if he does, he is a decent value option for the outfield tonight as he has had great success against the right-handed Matt Garza of the Milwaukee Brewers in his career. Coghlan is hitting just .248 on the season but does have 11 homeruns, 25 RBI’s, and 11 SB on the season. In his career against Garza, Coghlan is hitting .357 (5-14) with three doubles and a triple. Garza has pitched well against the Cubs on the season however, overall in his career he hasn’t posted the greatest numbers against the Cubs and as I said before, has really struggled on the road this season posting a 6.40 ERA. As the outfield will start to get crowded with Montero coming off the DL for the Cubs it  will be interesting to see of the Cubs stick with Coghlan at second for a bit, however, if he once again is batting out the 3rd spot of the lineup tonight, Coghlan has some great value at a $2400 price on Wednesday.
