Fantasy Baseball Update 8/12/15: Who's Hot and Who's Not
The Streaking and Slumping Players in Fantasy This Week
August 12, 2015
Around here, Wednesday means it’s time to check out what the notable fantasy baseball stars have been doing in our weekly Who’s Hot and Who’s Not list. We’ve got our usual roundup of big names in store for you today, so let’s visit the numbers and see how everyone’s been doing.
USA TODAY Sports
Andrew McCutchen, OF, Pittsburgh Pirates: McCutchen has been earning his keep as a high-caliber fantasy draft pick this past week. He had a great series against the Dodgers, logging seven hits, five runs, a homer and six RBI. He came up empty yesterday, though.
McCutchen has been playing well pretty much all season, which is really no surprise. He’s in St. Louis now, and will head to New York for the Mets this weekend.
Michael Brantley, OF, Cleveland Indians: Brantley had a great weekend series as well, posting eight hits, five runs and four RBI against the Twins. He slapped three more hits (including a walk-off) yesterday.
Brantley has been a solid source of RBI this year and has been pretty good on the base paths as well. After this Yankees series ends, he’ll head to Minnesota for the Twins again.
David Price, SP, Toronto Blue Jays: Price must like being in Toronto. Over his last two starts, he’s gone 15 innings and allowed just one earned on six hits.
Price carries a 2.35 ERA with a 1.07 WHIP on the season and has 11 wins to his credit. He’ll go for win number 12 at home against the Yankees on Friday.
Adrian Beltre, 3B, Texas Rangers: Beltre hit for the cycle back on August 3rd, but hasn’t done much since then. Through the Seattle series he posted just two hits and three runs in a five-game span. He went 0-for-4 yesterday.
Beltre hasn’t quite been the force that most fantasy owners hoped he’d be, but he has shown flashes of greatness this season. After he plays the Twins he’ll head home for the Rays this weekend.
Todd Frazier, 1B/3B, Cincinnati Reds: Frazier has been in quite a slump since the beginning of last month. Heading into yesterday’s game, he had just one hit in four starts, with no runs or RBI in there. The good news is that he broke out yesterday on three hits with a homer and a double.
Frazier has been on a downswing over the past few weeks and can’t be relied on for much of anything in fantasy these days. He’ll head to L.A. when he’s done in San Diego.
Jeff Samardzija, SP, Chicago White Sox: Things haven’t gone well for Samardzija lately, to say the least. In his last two games, he’s 0-2, going just 4.2 innings in each and allowing a combined 16 earned runs.
Samardzija is sitting at a 4.62 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP on the year. He’s 2-3 in his last five, allowing at least four earned in four of those. He’ll get a chance at redemption Friday against the Cubs.
