USA TODAY Sports

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!

Pitcher – Stephen Strasburg – Washington Nationals

Stephen Strasburg has had a difficult season battling injury and posting a 4.76 ERA and 1.38 WHIP however looked incredible in his first start back from the DL last Saturday as he went 7 innings giving no runs while striking out 12 in a victory over the Colorado Rockies. Strasburg has a difficult matchup against the San Francisco Giants on Thursday in which he is holding the current Giants roster to a .244 (19-78) average. Strasburg currently is posting a 9.9 K/9 Ratio and has a strikeout percentage of 24.9%. The Giants are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Houston Astros in which they got shut out from the below average Scott Feldman and I hope that they once against struggle against Strasburg on Thursday.

Catcher – Brian McCann – New York Yankees

I’m going to be taking Brian McCann of the New York Yankees as I like the LHB’s of the Yankees against Trevor Bauer and the Cleveland Indians on Thursday. McCann is hitting just .243 on the season however does have 19 homeruns and 66 RBI’s on the season. McCann, like all of the New York Yankees as of late has been struggling but I feel that they’ll have a good chance to turn things around against Bauer as the Yankees roster is hitting .289 against him. In his career against Bauer, McCann has hit .500 (3-6) with a double and RBI. McCann has hit 14 of his 19 homeruns against RHP on the season and I like his chances to break out of his recent slump tonight.

First Base – Mark Teixeira – New York Yankees

Mark Teixeira is hitting .259 with 30 homeruns and 77 RBI’s and similar to all the Yankees, has really struggled over the past week hitting just .125. Teixeira’s career average is just .273 but it’s been great to see him find his power swing again as he currently has a .557 slugging percentage and .919 OPS on the season. Trevor Bauer comes into this matchup with a .406 ERA and 1.23 WHIP and although he certainly has a good arsenal, Bauer has been prone to be a bit wild at times and also has a tendency to give up the homerun ball, allowing 21 homeruns in 137.1 IP. In his career against Bauer, Teixeira is hitting .333 (1 for 3) and Teixeira has fared much better as a LHB on the season as he has a .269 average and .949 OPS.

Second Base – Anthony Rendon – Washington Nationals

Anthony Rendon has missed the majority of the season due to injury and is currently hitting .265 on the season with a homerun and 7 RBI’s. Rendon is showing great value as this is a player that certainly can hit the ball as he .287 with 21 homeruns and 83 RBI’s in 2014. Rendon has a solid matchup against Ryan Vogelsong of the San Francisco Giants in which Rendon is 1 for 4 against in his career. Vogelsong comes into this matchup with a 4.26 ERA and 1.39 ERA and will once against get a start as he has primarily been working out of the bullpen over the past few months. Vogelson has had issues with the homerun ball as he has given up 15 homeruns in 105.2 IP on the season. Rendon has a .773 OPS against RHP on the season and as his price tag is set at a reasonable $2800, he is a solid play at second base today.

Shortstop – Erick Aybar – Los Angeles Angels

I went with Aybar yesterday and although I expected the Angels to do a bitter better against the left-handed John Danks, however Aybar still was not a complete bust as he was able to get us 3 fantasy points yesterday. I wrote this about Aybar yesterday and it remains true for today:

“Aybar’s biggest appeal when it comes to fantasy is the fact that you know there is a good chance that he will have RISP as he bats 5th in the Angels order, behind Calhoun, Trout, and Pujols.”

The good news for Aybar and his teammates is that they have a very good matchup against the right-handed Jeremy Guthrie of the Kansas City Royals who comes into this matchup with a 5.84 ERA and 1.58 WHIP. Aybar is hitting .273 on the season with 2 homeruns and 35 RBI’s and although he hasn’t had a huge amount of success against Guthrie in his career, I think Aybar is one against a great value play on Thursday at a cost of just $2200.

Third Base – Todd Frazier – Cincinnati Reds

Todd Frazier has started to finally get out of his recent funk as the slugging third baseman in his last two games has gone 4 for 8 with a homerun and 3 RBI’s. Frazier comes into this game hitting just .260 on the season and .143 in August but does have 28 homeruns, 71 RBI’s and 10 SB’s on the season. Frazier will be up against Mat Latos of the Los Angeles Dodgers who comes into this matchup with a 4.67 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. Latos was hit hard in his 2nd start with the Dodgers as he lasted just 4 innings, giving up 6 runs on 7 hits (2 homeruns) against Pittsburgh. Frazier has a .258 average and .800 OPS against RHP on the season. Frazier price tag has dramatically gone down with his recent struggles and I think it’s a good spot to get a player that easily get us two homeruns for just $3100.

Outfield – Mike Trout – Los Angeles Angels

One of these games, Mike Trout is going to have a big game when is on my team, and with a matchup against Jeremy Guthrie of the Kansas City Royals on Thursday, I’m hoping tonight is that night. I’ve gone with Trout a handful of times over the last two weeks and he has struggled in August hitting just .159 so far for the month. On the season, Trout is still putting up MVP-like numbers as he has a .300 average with 33 homeruns, 69 RBI’s and 10 SB. In his career against Guthrie, Trout has posted a .375 (6-16) with a homerun and 4 RBI’s. Trout has been great on the road so far in 2015 as he has posted a .324 average and 1.026 OPS away from Angel Stadium. Guthrie is allowing opposing hitters to have a .320 average against him on the season and as trout is hitting .301 with a .997 OPS against RHP on the season, he should be a safe pick tonight.

Outfield – Jacoby Ellsbury – New York Yankees

As with all the New York Yankees, Ellsbury has really struggled as of late as over the past week the speedy center fielder is hitting just .087. Ellsbury on the season comes into Thursday’s matchup with a .260 average with 5 homeruns, 23 RBI’s and 14 SB’s and is a career 1 for 4 against the right-handed Trevor Bauer of the Cleveland Indians. I’m going with Ellsbury tonight as like most of the struggling players that I have taken today, their price tag has dropped to a point where there is just two much value not to take. Ellsbury is hitting a bit better against RHP on the season as he has posted a .269 average and has fared well against Cleveland over the past three years posting a .321 average a .863 OPS. It’s only a matter of time until the Yankees break out of their offensive slump and I’m hoping as I have three Yankees in my lineup tonight, they do it against Bauer and the Indians.

Outfield – Joc Pederson – Los Angeles Dodgers

It is the day of picking struggling hitters as I wrap up my lineup tonight with the Dodgers slugging outfielder, Joc Pederson. Pederson is hitting just .219 on the season, but has shown the ability to hit the long ball as he has collected 21 homeruns and 43 RBI’s on the season. Pederson has hit 18 of his 21 homeruns against RHP on the season and will be facing the right-handed Keyvius Sampson of the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday. Sampson comes into tonight’s matchup making his third career start in MLB and has been solid so far posting a 3.00 ERA and 0.92 WHIP on the season. Although Sampson has pitched well in his limited action in the majors, Sampson was struggling a bit in Triple AAA before getting called up as he posted a 5.08 ERA over 8 games with Louisville. Pederson is basically an all or nothing pick however, but as he price tag has dropped to just $2500, he has good value tonight.
