Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!

Pitcher – Justin Verlander – Detroit Tigers

I’m going to save some money at the pitching spot tonight and go with the former cy-young winner, Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers tonight. Verlander is just 1-5 with a 4.57 ERA and 1.25 WHIP since returning from the DL, however, he has pitched well as of late as he hasn’t given up more than 1 ER in 3 of his last 4 starts. Verlander only has a 6.7 K/9 ratio on the season but has shown with his 10 strikeout performance against Tampa Bay in early July that he still have the ability to pick up some strikeouts. Verlander has a great upside matchup tonight as he will go up against the Houston Astros who rank 2nd in the MLB in total strikeouts. Verlander is holding the current Astros roster to just a .151 (11-73) average and I think Verlander is worth the play tonight at $7700 so we can load up some decent hitters.

Catcher – Jonathan Lucroy – Milwaukee Brewers

Jonathan Lucroy has officially reached the $2200 level and although he didn’t come through for me yesterday, I’m sticking with the Brewers catcher on Saturday as he has a great matchup against the right-handed Jerome Williams of the Philadelphia Phillies. Lucroy battled a foot injury at the beginning of the season and has yet to seem to get on track as the veteran catcher is hitting just .233 with 4 homeruns and 26 RBI’s. Lucroy has had some success against Williams in his career as he is hitting .667 (2-3) with a double and two RBI’s. Williams is coming off one of his best performances of his season against the Padres however, he is still a below average MLB pitcher who is posting a 5.73 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in 2015. Williams is allowing RHB’s to post a .332 average and .932 OPS on the season. Lucroy has hit better against RHP on the season and I’m hoping for the second straight night that he can finally resemble the hitter he was in 2014.

First Base – Paul Goldschmidt – Arizona Diamondbacks

I’m going with Paul Goldschmidt as my first baseman tonight Goldschmidt is once again having an outstanding season hitting .340 with 22 homeruns, 84 RBI’s and 19 SB. Goldschmidt has a great matchup against the right-handed Mike Foltynewicz of the Atlanta Braves who comes in with a 5.23 ERA and 1.59 WHP. Foltynewicz has really struggled this season as he is allowing opposing hitters to have a .307 average while RHB’s are posting a .289 average and .840 OPS. Foltynewicz has given up 14 homeruns in just 72.1 IP on the season including 6 homeruns in his last three starts. Goldschmidt has been great against RHP on the season as he has posted a .328 average and 1.003 OPS against righties. Goldschmidt is hitting .324 away from Chase Field on the season and as usual, is generally always a solid pick if you can afford him.

Second Base – Cory Spangenberg – San Diego Padres

Cory Spangenberg just came off the DL after suffering a left-knee injury in late June and as it looks as if he will be getting solid playing time at second and third base for the Padres, I think Spangenberg is a great value play at Coors field if he gets the start today. On the season Spangenberg is hitting .253 with 2 homeruns and 11 RBI’s and will be going up against the left-handed Jon Gray of the Colorado Rockies on Saturday. Jon Gray has been solid in his limited action so far in 2015 but I do like the LHB vs. RHP matchup Spangenberg brings today. Spangenberg has hit .286 on the road and a .400 (6-15) with three doubles against the Rockies this season and for a cost of just $2500, think he is a great play if he gets the start tonight.

Shortstop – Jhonny Peralta – St. Louis Cardinals

Jhonny Peralta is having another solid season for the Cardinals as the 12-year veteran is currently hitting .282 on the season with 16 homeruns and 56 RBI’s. Peralta has a decent matchup against the left-handed Brad Hand of the Miami Marlins tonight who comes into this matchup with a 4.29 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. Hand is currently allowing RHB’s to post a .276 ERA and .706 OPS against him on the season. Hand has really struggled on the road this season as he has posted a 6.85 ERA on the road this season and in his one appearance against the Cardinals this season gave up 3 hits and 1 run in just .1 IP. Peralta is hitting just .250 against LHP on the season but does have a .824 OPS against LHP as he has hit 9 homeruns in just 124 at-bats. Peralta is hitting .293 during night games and I’m hoping he can get another homerun tonight.

Third Base – Jacob Lamb – Arizona Diamondbacks

I’m going with Jake Lamb as my third baseman tonight as although Lamb is hitting just .279 with 4 homeruns and 27 RBI’s on the season, he has been hitting better as of late and has a great matchup against the right-handed Mike Foltynewicz of the Atlanta Braves. Lame is hitting .289 in the month of August and has collected at least one hit in five of his last six games. Foltynewicz has really struggled against LHB’s on the season as he is allowing LHB’s to post a .326 average and .941 OPS against him on the season. Lamb is hitting .319 away from Chase Field on the season and I think he is in prime spot to have a big night against Foltynewicz and the Braves tonight.

Outfield – Carlos Gonzalez – Colorado Rockies

I’ve been able to save another salary to go big with my outfield tonight and it will start off with Carlos Gonzalez of the Colorado Rockies. Gonzalez is hitting .272 on the season with 26 homeruns and 65 RBI’s on the season and although he is slowing down a bit after a torrid July, he still has a .856 OPS in the month of August. Gonzalez will be up against the right-handed Andrew Cashner of the San Diego Padres tonight and although he is hitting just .250 against Cashner in his career, I still like this matchup as Gonzalez has a .304 average and .984 OPS against RHP on the season. Gonzalez is hitting .298 at Coors Field and as Cashner does have the ability to give up some homeruns, I think he is worth the investment on Saturday.

Outfield – Charlie Blackmon – Colorado Rockies

I’m going to stay in Colorado and go with the Rockies lead-off hitter, Charlie Blackmon with my second outfield spot tonight. Blackmon comes into tonight game with a .283 average with 13 homeruns, 46 RBI’s and 31 SB. Similar to Carlos Gonzalez, Blackmon hasn’t had much success against the right-handed Andrew Cashner in his career, however, I still like the matchup as Blackmon has posted a .302 average and .861 OPS against RHP on the season. Blackmon has been great at Coors Field on the season as he has posted a .322 average and .850 OPS. Blackmon has been a great fantasy player over the past two years as he does everything well. Blackmon has 24 SB’s against RHP on the season and as he is at home where he certainly has enough power to get us a HR, he is a good choice on Saturday.

Outfield – Yasiel Puig – Los Angeles Dodgers

Yasiel Puig is hitting just .243 on the season with 9 homeruns and 34 RBI’s and although he has been plagued by inconsistent performances throughout the season, he is a solid option tonight against the left-handed David Holmberg of the Cincinnati Reds. Puig has yet to face Holmberg in his career and although Holmberg has pitched well in his limited time in the majors in 2015, Holmberg is still the same pitcher who posted a 4.40 ERA and 1.542 WHIP with the Cincinnati’s triple-AAA squad. Puig has a .294 average against LHP over his career and although his average against lefties is down in 2015, he still is posting a solid .823 OPS this season. Puig is a risk, but he also has the ability to have a huge game similar to his recent game against Washington in which he went 2-4 with a triple, homerun and 5 RBI’s.
