Daily Fantasy Baseball – 8/19/15 (Late Games)
Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.
USA TODAY Sports
Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!
Pitcher – Dallas Keuchel – Houston Astros
I’m going with Dallas Keuchel of the Houston Astros tonight as my starting pitcher as the left-hander comes into the matchup with a solid 2.36 ERA and 1.01 WHIP while striking out 151 batters in 171.2 IP. Keuchel has a decent matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays tonight and has been an absolute stud at home this season posting a 11-0 record with a 1.26 ERA in 13 starts. Keuchel has a decent 7.9 K/9 ratio and a strikeout rate of 22.47%. Tampa Bay comes into this matchup with a team batting average of just .247 (ranked 24th in MLB) and is ranked 6th in MLB in total strikeouts on the season. Keuchel has only allowed more than 3 ER’s once in his last 9 starts and although he just an average game against TB in early July, I think Keuchel will pitch a gem in front of his home crowd on Wednesday.
Catcher – Russell Martin – Toronto Blue Jays
Russell Martin is having an August to forget as the veteran catcher is hitting just .098 so far in the month which has lowered his season average to a .244 mark. Although Martin has been struggling, he still has compiled 15 homeruns and 51 RBI’s on the season and as he is facing the left-hander Adam Morgan of the Philadelphia Phillies tonight, I think Martin has great value for just a $2700 price tag. Martin. Morgan comes into the matchup with a decent 4.11 ERA and 1.29 WHIP but has struggled against RHB’s allowing RHB’s to post a .285 average and .829 OPS against him on the season. Martin has been much better against LHP on the season posting a .310 average and .987 OPS. Martin has hit better at the Rodgers Centre on the season and as I feel that Toronto could have a big offensive night against the left-handed Morgan, I’ll gladly take my chances on Russell Martin breaking out of his slump tonight.
First Base – Paul Goldschmidt – Arizona Diamondbacks
Paul Goldschmidt is having another All-Star year as the slugging first baseman is hitting .333 with 22 homeruns, 88 RBI’s, and 19 SB on the season. Goldschmidt is having a tough August (hitting just .237 w/ no HR’s) however, he has picked up over the past week hitting .280 with 7 RBI’s. Goldschmidt will be up against the left-handed J.A. Happ of the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight in which he has yet to face in his career. Happ comes into this matchup with a 4.64 ERA and 1.45 WHIP and although he only gave up 1 ER in his 5.2 IP in his recent outing against the Mets, hasn’t looked great since Pittsburgh acquired him at the trade deadline. Happ is allowing opposing hitters to have a .288 against him on the season. Goldschmidt has been great against LHP as he is posting a .382 average and 1.150 OPS against lefties on the season. It will still cost you a bit to get Goldschmidt on your team, but for the fact he is facing a hittable LHP, I think his value far surpasses his price tag of $4400.
Second Base – Chase Utley – Philadelphia Phillies
Chase Utley is looking like a younger version of himself as of late as the 12 year veteran has been on a tear over the past week hitting .571 (8-14) with 2 doubles and a homerun. Since returning from injury on August 7th, Utley has recorded at least one hit in each of his 8 games he has played. Utley will be up against the left-handed Mark Buehrle of the Toronto Blue Jays tonight and although he hasn’t had much success against Buehrle in the past (1 for 11), I don’t hate the matchup as Buehrle for the most part struggles more against LHB’s than RHB’s. On the season Buehrle is allowing LHB’s to post a .261 average, .441 slugging percentage, and .728 OPS. Now that Maikel Franco is on the DL, Utley should be seeing regular playing time as Cesar Hernandez will be playing 3B in Franco’s absence and as Utley currently has multiple hits in 4 straight games, I’m hoping I can ride the hot hand of Utley on Wednesday night.
Shortstop – Addison Russell – Chicago Cubs
Addison Russell is now the starting shortstop for the Cubs and as I need to save some money, I think he has decent value going up against the left-handed Daniel Norris of the Detroit Tigers tonight. On the season, Russell is hitting .243 with 7 homeruns and 31 RBI’s. Daniel Norris comes into this matchup with a 4.24 ERA and 1.44 WHIP as although the talented rookie has shown promise, he still is learning how to pitch at the MLB level. Norris is allowing opposing hitters to have a .275 average, .458 slugging percentage and .802 OPS against him in his 8 starts this season and is averaging giving up a little more than one hit per IP. Russell has struggled more against LHP’s on the season however, is hitting .286 over the past week and is hitting .333 (4-12) against Detroit on the season. Russell has collected 5 hits in his last 11 AB’s and as he seems a bit more comfortable at the plate, I think he is a decent choice today at the SS position.
Third Base – Kris Bryant – Chicago Cubs
I’m going to stay in Chicago and go with Kris Bryant as my third baseman today. Bryant comes into the matchup with a .252 average with 16 homeruns, 66 RBI’s and 12 SB’s. Bryant is hitting .250 over the last week and similar to Russell, will be up against the LHP Daniel Norris of the Detroit Tigers in which he has yet to face in his career. Bryant has a .336 OBP and .766 OPS against LHP on the season and is having a solid August as he is hitting .294 for the month. Bryant has some of the best power of any of the young rookies in the league and has fared well at Wrigley Field as he has a .273 average and .950 OPS at home this season. As with most rookies, Bryant has struggled a bit with his strikeouts, however as I still think Norris doesn’t have complete control of his arsenal as of yet, that Bryant will be able to do some damage tonight if Norris leaves anything over the plate.
Outfield – Starling Marte – Pittsburgh Pirates
Starling Marte is hitting .284 on the season with 14 homeruns and 59 RBI’s and although he is having a tough August (hitting just .231), he a good night at the plate yesterday going 2 for 7 with a solo homerun. Marte will be up against the left-handed Robbie Ray of the Arizona Diamondbacks in which he is 0-2 lifetime with a walk. Marte has been solid against LHP on the season posting a .293 average, .533 slugging percentage, and .887 OPS. Robbie Ray is having a great first season with the Diamondbacks as the lefty currently has a 3.29 ERA and 1.23 WHIP on the season. Ray has struggled more in his recent starts as he has given up 10 ER on 18 hits and 8 BB’s in his last 15.1 IP. Ray is allowing RHB’s to have a .316 OBP and .733 OPS against him on the season. Marte has fared well at PNC Park his season hitting for a .302 average and I believe he will have another decent night against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
Outfield – Dexter Fowler – Chicago Cubs
Dexter Fowler has been on a tear as of late hitting .455 over this past week with 4 doubles, a triple, and a homerun. Fowler is hitting .248 on the season with 12 homeruns, 33 RBI’s, and 17 SB’s and if you’ve read my picks up to this point, I’m going to be stacking a few RHB’s against the left-handed Daniel Norris of the Detroit Tigers tonight. Although Fowler is hitting just .248 on the season, he has been great against LHP’s as he is posting a .313 (31-99) average and .823 OPS. Fowler currently is riding a 6 game hit streak and has multiple hits in 4 of those 6 games. Fowler has been a thorn in the side of the Tigers this season as he is hitting .417 against Detroit and I’m hoping that this success continues on Wednesday night.
Outfield – Jay Bruce – Cincinnati Reds
Jay Bruce is currently in one of his cold streaks as the right-fielder is hitting just .159 in the month of August and .182 over the past week. On the season Bruce is hitting just .242 on the season but he is still a decent pick as still has his power evident by his 18 homeruns and 64 RBI’s. Bruce has an outstanding matchup against Jeremy Guthrie of the Kansas City Royals tonight in which in his career, Bruce has a .400 (2-5) average with a double. Guthrie is currently posting a 5.63 ERA and 1.55 WHIP on the season and has just 62 K’s in 124.2 IP. Guthrie has been hammered by LHB’s this season as he is allowing LHB’s to post a .329 average and .926 OPS against him. Bruce has collected 15 of his 18 homeruns against RHP on the season and has a .259 average and .853 OPS at home this season. Guthrie is no stranger of giving up homeruns and I think Bruce has some good value tonight at a reasonable $3000 price tag.
