Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – 8/26/2015

USA TODAY Sports

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!

Pitcher – David Price – Toronto Blue Jays

There are a few good options at the pitcher position today however, I’m going to go with David Price of the Toronto Blue Jays as the left-hander is posting a 2.40 ERA and 1.08 WHIP and has a decent matchup against the Texas Rangers. Price has been great since being acquired by the Blue Jays and since going to Toronto he has posted a 9.8 K/9 ratio and a strikeout percentage of 27.5%. Texas has been hot as of late however, as the majority of their bigger bats are LHB, they’ve have struggled a bit against quality left-handers on the season. Against LHP, Texas is currently hitting just .249 (ranked 20th in MLB) and have the most team strikeouts in MLB. Price is currently holding opposing hitters to just a .235 average, .274 OBP, and .364 slugging percentage on the season. Price has been everything the Blue Jays hoped he would be since acquiring him from Detroit and I think he’ll have another strong performance against the Rangers tonight.

Catcher – Victor Martinez – Detroit Tigers

Victor Martinez is having a down season as the veteran DH is currently hitting just .243 with 9 homeruns and 53 RBI’s on the season and although he is facing a tough lefty in the Angels Hector Santiago, I think that as Martinez has been great as a RHB, he has great value at a cost of just $2700. Santiago comes into tonight’s matchup with a stellar 2.91 ERA and 1.17 WHIP, however, has been more hittable as of late as he has posted a 4.62 ERA in his 7 starts since the All-Star break. Santiago has given up 6 homeruns in his last 7 starts and on the season 17 of his 19 allowed HR’s have come against RHB. As a RHB, Martinez has been great this season as Martinez has posted a .354 (28-79) average and .883 OPS. Martinez is a career .303 hitter and although this has been a long season for Martinez, he still has great plate discipline and has great value against a LHP tonight.

First Base – Ryan Howard – Philadelphia Phillies

Ryan Howard is only hitting .240 on the season but is still showing that he has that power that got him that big contract as he currently has 21 homeruns and 72 RBI’s on the season. Howard has a decent matchup against the right-handed Bartolo Colon on Wednesday who has extremely struggled as of late and will probably will be removed from the Mets starting rotation sooner than later as he has a 6.08 ERA since the All-Star break. Since the All-Star break Colon is allowing opposing hitters to post a .327 average against him and on the season is allowing LHB’s to post a .309 average and .803 OPS. Howard has some experience against Colon and although he is hitting just .211 against the right-hander, he does have 2 homeruns and 7 RBI’s off him. Howard has been much better against RHP on the season posting a .272 average and .843 OPS. Howard is hitting .400 over the past week with 3 doubles and 2 HR’s and I think he’ll be able to continue this recent hot streak against Colon and the Mets tonight.

Second Base – Jason Kipnis – Cleveland Indians

Jason Kipnis has missed most of August due to injury however, the second baseman sure looks like he is back to his pre-injury ways as he had a monster game last night going 3-4 with 2 doubles, 3 runs scored, 2 RBI’s and a BB. On the season Kipnis is hitting .324 with 6 HR’s, 41 RBI’s and 11 SB and as he is facing a right-handed pitcher in the Milwaukee Brewers Jimmy Nelson, Kipnis is a great pick while his price tag is still hovering around the $3000 level. Nelson comes into this game with a solid 3.60 ERA and 1.22 WHIP but has struggled against LHB’s on the season allowing LHB’s to post a .296 average and .861 OPS. Kipnis has been lights out against RHP on the season as he is hitting .364 and has posted a .977 OPS. Kipnis has been great at Progressive Field as he is he has posted a .383 average and 1.062 OPS and I think he is almost a must play at second base tonight.

Shortstop – Freddy Galvis – Philadelphia Phillies

Freddy Galvis is having a nice season with the Phillies as the shortstop is currently hitting .273 with 6 homeruns, 36 RBI’s and 8 SB’s. I’m going with Galvis tonight as I need to save some money at the position and he has a solid matchup against the right-handed Bartolo Colon of the New York Mets. I’ve mentioned in Ryan Howard’s write-up the struggles that Colon has had as of late and although he is pitching better against RHB’s, he is still allowing RHB’s to post a .274 average and .759 OPS against him. Colon has given up 22 homeruns on the season including 7 homeruns in his last 27.2 IP. Galvis has had some success against Colon in his career as he is hitting .500 (3-6) with a double. Galvis has been great against the Mets all season as he hit .357 against them on the season and as has been hot as of late, hitting .333 over the past week, I think he is a solid choice tonight.

Third Base – Todd Frazier – Cincinnati Reds

Todd Frazier continues to hit as of late as he had solid night at the plate last night going 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and a RBI and as he faces another hittable left-handed pitcher tonight in the Los Angeles Dodger’s Brett Anderson, is once against almost a must play at a cost of just $2800. Frazier has struggled finding his homerun swing since the All-Star break however, is still hitting .263 with 29 HR’s and 75 RBI’s on the season and has collected at least 1 hit in 7 of his last 8 games. Brett Anderson comes into this matchup with a 3.52 ERA and 1.32 WHIP however, has struggled since the All-Star Break as he has posted a 4.68 ERA. Anderson is allowing RHB’s to post a .275 average and .740 OPS against him on the season and has a 4.50 ERA against the Reds in 2015. Frazier has been solid against LHP’s all season posting a .270 average and .974 OPS. In his limited experience against Anderson, Frazier is 1 for 2 with the hit being a HR. Frazier is hitting .370 over the past week and won’t be along until some of those hits start becoming HR’s and as along as his price is below $3000, he will continue to be a staple in my lineups especially if I spend on pitching.

Outfield – Melky Cabrera – Chicago White Sox

Melky Cabrera is hitting .271 on the season with 8 HR’s and 61 RBI’s and although he is hitting just .192 over the past week, he has a great matchup against the right-handed Rick Porcello of the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday. Porcello has struggled mightily in his first season with the Red Sox as he is currently posted a 5.81 ERA and 1.44 WHIP and will be making his first start since late July due to a triceps injury. Porcello is allowing opposing hitters to post a .299 average and .826 OPS against him on the season and has struggled against LHB’s allowing them to post a .308 average and .869 OPS. Cabrera is a switch hitter who has been much better as a LHB on the season as he is hitting .285. Cabrera has been great in his career against Porcello as he has posted a .545 (12-22) average and 1.402 OPS. The White Sox destroyed Porcello in an earlier start this season as Porcello lasted only 2.0 innings giving up 5 ER’s on 10 hits and I think the White Sox and Cabrera will have similar success against Porcello and the Red Sox tonight.

Outfield – Avisail Garcia – Chicago White Sox

Avisail Garcia has been solid for the White Sox all season as he comes into tonight’s matchup with a .269 average with 11 HR’s and 47 RBI’s. Garcia has been hot as of late as he has hit .296 over the past week and has posted a .284 average with 4 HR’s and 14 RBI’s in the month of August. Garcia will be up against the struggling Rick Porcello of the Boston Red Sox which is allowing RHB’s to post a .289 average and .781 OPS against him on the season. Similar to Melky Cabrera, Garcia has been great against Porcello as in his career he has posted a .467 (7-15) average with 3 RBI’s. Garcia is hitting .333 against the Red Sox on the season and has fared well at U.S. Cellular Field on the season as 8 of his 11 HR’s have come at home this season. I think the White Sox are going to have another good night against Porcello and I think Garcia should have decent chances with RISP tonight.

Outfield – Yasiel Puig – Los Angeles Dodgers

Yasiel Puig is currently posting a .253 average with 10 HR’s and 36 RBI’s and although he has been quite inconsistent this year, I really like his matchup against the left-handed David Holmberg of the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday. Holmberg currently comes in with a 6.57 ERA and 1.74 WHIP in his 5 starts on the season and was recently lit up by the Dodgers as on 8/15 he lasted just 2.0 innings giving up 7 ERs on 5 hits (3 HR’s) and 4 BB’s. Holmberg has been crushed by RHB’s as he is allowing RHB’s to post a .347 (25-72) average and 1.061 OPS. Puig has been a bit better against LHP on the season posting a .262 average and .883 OPS and in his one at-bat against Holmberg has hit a HR. Puig is hitting .308 over the past week and as he has the talent and as he has collected at least one hit in each of his last 8 games, I think he has great value with a price tag of just $2700.
