Daily Fantasy Baseball – 8/29/15 (Late Games)
Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.
USA TODAY Sports
Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!
Pitcher – Mat Latos – Miami Marlins
Mat Latos is currently posting a 4.81 ERA and 1.27 WHIP and although he hasn’t pitched that well since being acquired by the Dodgers at the trade deadline, I’m still going to go with the right-hander as he has a decent matchup with the strikeout prone Chicago Cubs. Latos had an 8.0 K/9 ratio while with the Marlins and a strikeout percentage of 19.5%. The Cubs certainly have some offensive talent in their lineup however, they certainly strikeout a lot as they lead MLB in total strikeouts. Latos is holding the current Cubs roster to a .194 average and as I’m going to load up on hitters once again, I think Latos has some great upside for a cost of just $6200.
Catcher – Derek Norris – San Diego Padres
Derek Norris is hitting just .245 on the season but the catcher does have 13 HR’s and 54 RBI’s and have a solid matchup against the left-handed Adam Morgan of the Philadelphia Phillies. Norris has been stellar against LHP on the season as he has posted a .293 average and .777 OPS. Morgan comes into the matchup with a respectable 4.43 ERA and 1.26 WHIP however, has struggled mightily against RHB’s allowing them to post a .290 average and .889 OPS. Morgan is coming off one of his worst outings of the season against the Mets as Norris is hitting .333 against Morgan in his career, he is a decent choice the catchers position today.
First Base – Joey Votto – Cincinnati Reds
Joey Votto is only hitting .214 over the past week however is still having an outstanding season as he is hitting .306 with 34 HR’s and 62 RBI’s so far in2015. Votto will be up against the right-hander Matt Garza who comes into this matchup with a 5.26 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. Garza has given up at least 5 runs in each of his last two starts and is currently allowing LHB’s to post a .296 average and .842 OPS. Votto is hitting an impressive .302 and has a .996 OPS against RHP and as he is posting an incredible .320 average on the road, Votto is a good play at first base tonight.
Second Base – Anthony Rendon – Washington Nationals
Anthony Rendon is hitting just .261 on the season with 3 HR’s and 13 RBI’s and although he has battled injuries for most of the seasons, he has been hot as of late hitting .409 over the past week. Rendon will be up against the right-handed Tom Koehler of the Miami Marlins who comes into this game with a 3.98 ERA and 1.31 WHIP. Koehler has lost his last 6 outings and has posted a 4.66 ERA in three starts against the Nationals this season. Rendon has a .342 OPS and .700 OPS against RHP and has a solid .276 average at home on the season.
Shortstop – Jose Reyes – Colorado Rockies
Jose Reyes is hitting .280 on the season with 7 HR’s, 45 RBI’s and 21 SB and has been hot as of late hitting .304 with 2 HR”s and 5 RBI’s over the past week. Reyes will be up against left-handed J.A. Happ of the Pittsburgh Pirates who comes into this matchup with a 4.21 ERA and 1.39 WHIP. Happ has had success against Reyes in his career but is allowing opposing hitters to hit .277 on the season. Reyes has been more successful as a LHB and might actually hit lefty today as Happ has struggled more against LHB’s then RHB’s on the season. Happ has pitched well in his last three starts but this is still a pitcher with a career 4.24 ERA and 1.39 WHIP and I think the Reyes and the Rockies will be able to get to him today.
Third Base – Todd Frazier – Cincinnati Reds
I’m sticking with Frazier against today and basically not a lot has changed from my writing last night:
“As I’ve mentioned plenty of times over the past week, as long as Todd Frazier’s price tag remains below the $3000 line, he will be tough to overlook on a value basis alone. Frazier has struggled with his power since winning the HR Derby and although he started off August slow, he has picked it up as of late as he is hitting .357 with 5 doubles over the past week. On the season, Frazier has put up good number as he is hitting .263 (career .259 hitter) with 29 HR’s and 75 RBI’s. Frazier is posting a 1.012 OPS at Miller Park this season and I’m hoping tonight’s the night he finds his HR swing again.”
Frazier will be up against the right-handed Matt Garza in which he is hitting .294 with 3 HR’s against in his career. Frazier will start hitting HR’s soon and once against, I’m hoping tonight is that night.
Outfield – Bryce Harper – Washington Nationals
Outfield – Jayson Werth – Washington Nationals
I’m going with both Bryce Harper and Jayson Werth tonight as both left-handed bats have had great success and the right-handed Tom Koehler of the Miami Marlins.
Harper enters the game putting up MVP numbers as he is posting a .334 average with 31 HR’s and 76 RBI’s. Harper has been great as of late as he is hitting .409 (9-22) average and has destroyed the Marlins this season hitting .375 with 6 HR’s against him. Harper has pretty much owned Koehler in his young career as he has posted a .333 average with 5 HR’s and 9 RBI’s. Harper is crushing RHP’s this season to the tune of a .342 average and 1.151 OPS.
Jayson Werth hasn’t had the success that Harper has had and is hitting just .206 with 4 HR’s and 22 RBI’s in his 56 games played this season. Similar to Harper, Werth has had some great success against Koehler as in his career he has posted a .313 average and 1.164 OPS against the right-handed. Werth has been better as of late as he has collected at least one hit in 6 of his last 7 games and is hitting .304 with a HR over the past week.
Koehler is only allowing LHB’s to hit .242 against him this season however, 13 of his 17 HR’s allowed have been against LHB and I’m hoping that both Harper and Werth can add to this total tonight.
Outfield – Justin Upton – San Diego Padres
Justin Upton is hitting .256 with 23 HR’s and 71 RBI’s on the season and has been hot as of late as he is hitting .280 with 3 doubles and 3 HR’s over the past week. Upton has a nice matchup against the left-handed Adam Morgan of the Philadelphia Phillies who has struggled against RHB’s all year. Upton has been a thorn in the Phillies side this season as he is hitting .333 (5-15) with 2 HR’s. Upton is hitting .287 so far in the month of August with 5 HR’s and 15 RBI’s and as Morgan has allowed 12 HR’s in just 186 AB’s vs. RHB’s, I like Upton chances to have a big game tonight.
