Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.

Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!

Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – 9/1/2015

Pitcher – Matt Shoemaker – Los Angeles Angels

I went with Matt Shoemaker in his last start and the right hander certainly came through as he went 7.1 innings giving up no runs while striking out 5 in winning effort against the Detroit Tigers. I’m going with Shoemaker again tonight as although he is posting a 4.48 ERA and 1.24 WHIP on the season and has been hit hard against Oakland this season, he has pitched well since the All-Star break posting a 3.48 ERA with 36 SO in 33.2 IP. The Athletics don’t strikeout a ton but Shoemaker does have a respectable 7.9 K/9 Ratio and a strikeout % of 21.0%. Oakland is hitting just .253 against RHP on the season and ranked 17th in MLB in runs scored on the season. Shoemaker hasn’t given up a run in four of his last six starts in which he has 36 SO’s in 33.2 IP and although he might not pile up the K’s tonight, I still think he can go 7 innings getting around 5 K’s and the win.

Catcher – Evan Gattis – Houston Astros

I’m going with Evan Gattis once again at the catcher position as he is once again up a hittable LHP in Seattle’s Roenis Elias and is reasonably priced at just $3000. Gattis has a decent night last night going 1-3 with a double, run scored, and 2 RBI’s and in his career against Elias is hitting .500 (4-8) with a HR. Elias comes into this matchup with a 4.280 ERA and 1.25 WHIP while giving up 11 HR’s in 85.2 IP on the season. Elias is actually holding RHB’s to a lower average compared to LHB’s however he has given up 10 HR’s RHB’s and has a 6.61 ERA in 3 starts against Houston this season. Gattis is hitting .286 over the past week with 3 HR’s and 9 RBI’s and has posted a solid .817 OPS at home on the season. Gattis has 22 HR’s on the season in which 5 of those HR’s have come against the Mariners and I’m hoping that he can add to these totals tonight.

First Base – Joey Votto – Cincinnati Reds

Joey Votto is having another great season with the Cincinnati Reds as the veteran first baseman is hitting .312 on the season with 25 HR’s and 65 RBI’s. Votto has been solid as of late as he is hitting .389 over the past week with 12 BB’s and .314 with 6 HR’s and 14 RBI’s in the month of August. Votto will be up against the right-handed Dan Haren of the Chicago cubs who comes in with a 6.31 ERA since being acquired by the Cubs at the trade deadline. Haren has really had trouble keeping the ball in the park this season as he has given up 29 HR’s so far this season. Haren is allowing LHB’s to post a .533 slugging % and .854 OPS on the season. Votto is hitting .312 and posting a 1.017 OPS against RHP on the season. Votto has been great on the road this season hitting .332 and I think he can continue to have this type of success at Wrigley Field tonight.

Second Base – Jason Kipnis – Cleveland Indians

Jason Kipnis is having a great season as the scrappy second baseman is hitting .319 on the season with 7 HR’s, 45 RBI’s and 11 SB and will get the start for my squad tonight as he is going up against the right-handed Marco Estrada of the Toronto Blue Jays. Estrada has been great for the Blue Jays this season posting a 3.19 ERA and 1.09 WHIP, however, Kipnis has been outstanding against RHP on the season posting a .357 average and .958 OPS. Although he hasn’t given up more than 3 ER’s in his last three starts Estrada has been given up some HR’s as he has allowed 4 HR’s in his last 17.2 IP. Kipnis has been great against Toronto this season as he is hitting .429 (9-21) and has posted a 1.310 OPS and has good value at a cost of just $3600 tonight.

Shortstop – Addison Russell – Chicago Cubs

Addison Russell came through in a big way last night for my team as the rookie SS went 2 for 4 with a double, HR, 2 runs scored, and 3 RBI’s. Russell is hitting only .243 on the season but does have 10 HR’s and 38 RBI’s and I’m going to stick with Russell once again tonight as I like his matchup against the right-handed Anthony DeSclafani. DeSclafani is having a solid season with the Reds posting a 3.84 ERA and 1.36 WHIP however, has actually fared worse against RHB’s this season allowing RHB’s to post a .279 average and .705 OPS. As I mentioned yesterday, Russell is a much better against RHP as he is posting a .271 average against righties compared to a .160 average against lefties. In his career against DeSclafani, Russell is 2 for 4 with a double and 3 RBI’s. Russell is hitting .273 with 5 HR’s since the All-Star Break and although DeSclafani has pitched well against the Cubs this season, I think Russell will be able to put up another solid game tonight.

Third Base – David Wright – New York Mets

David Wright is hitting .305 with 2 HR’s and 5 RBI’s in his limited action this season and although he is hitting just .269 since returning to the lineup in August, he had a solid matchup against the right-handed Aaron Harang of the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. Harang comes into this matchup with a 4.79 ERA and 1.38 WHIP and has struggled since the All-Star break posting a 7.09 ERA. Harang struggled against the Mets in his recent start last Thursday as he went 6 innings giving up 5 ER’s on 9 hits (3 HR’s) and 3 BB. Harang is allowing RHB’s to have a .266 average and .764 OPS on the season and has a 5.40 ERA on the road this season. In his career against Harang, Wright has posted an incredible .455 average and 1.203 OPS and I’m hoping that Wright and the Mets have another good night off Harang.

Outfield – Mike Trout – Los Angeles Angels

I’m going to continue to take Mike Trout while his price stays at somewhat reasonable levels in the low to mid-$4500 range and has great matchups against below average pitchers as he does in the right-handed Cody Martin of the Oakland Athletics tonight. On the season Trout is once again putting up MVP like numbers as he is hitting .296 with 33 HR’s and 74 RBI’s. Martin looks as if he will be making a spot start tonight for Oakland and comes in with a 5.40 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 21 relief appearances on the season. Marti has really struggled against RHB’s as he has allowed them to post a .339 (20-59) average and .985 OPS on the season. Trout has been great on the road this season hitting .313 and posting a .991 OPS and I think him and the Angels will be able to have a big night against Cody Martin and the Athletics tonight.

Outfield – Jacoby Ellsbury – New York Yankees

I’m going with Jacoby Ellsbury tonight against his old team the Boston Red Sox as although the outfield has had a down year, he generally has hit the Red Sox hard this season and has a great matchup against the right-handed Rick Porcello. Ellsbury is hitting just .275 on the season with 7 HR’s, 30 RBI’s and 17 SB but does have a .317 average and .868 OPS against the Red Sox this season. Rick Porcello is coming off one of his best starts as a Red Sox but this is still a pitcher that has really struggled this season posting a 5.47 ERA and 1.40 WHIP while allowing opposing hitters to have a .293 average against him. In his career, Ellsbury has been great against Porcello as he has posted a .647 (11-17) average with 4 solo HR’s. Ellsbury is hitting .355 at Fenway Park on the season and I think he has good value against Porcello tonight.

Outfield – Seth Smith – Seattle Mariners

I expect Seth Smith to get the start tonight as Seattle will be up against the right-handed Scott Feldman and as Smith is hitting .308 (4-13) with 4 doubles over the past week, think he is decent option for just $2400 tonight. Smith is hitting only .254 on the season but does have 10 HR’s and 34 RBI’s on the season. Feldman is having a great season with the Astros as he is currently posting a 3.75 ERA and 1.27 WHIP however, this is still a pitcher with a lifetime ERA of 4.41. Feldman has struggled against the Seattle roster as he is allowing them to hit .283 against him. Smith is hitting .280 at Minute Maid Park this season and as he certainly has the power to hit a HR, he is not a bad option at $2400 if he gets the start tonight.
