Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – 9/11/2015
MLB Picks for your MLB Daily Fantasy Leagues
September 11th, 2015
Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.
Please Note: As the Cubs/Philadelphia game was cancelled last night, I’ll be using the same write-ups for the Cubs players as they still have a solid matchup against Adam Morgan.
USA TODAY Sports
Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!
Pitcher – Jake Arrieta – Chicago Cubs
Jake Arrieta has become the true “Ace” of the Cubs staff as the right-hander is currently posting an 18-6 record with a 2.03 ERA and 0.92 WHIP while striking out 197 batters in 191.0 IP. Arrieta has been untouchable as of late as he hasn’t given up a run in his last 29.0 IP which included a no-hitter against the Dodgers on 8/30. Arrieta is currently posting a 9.3 K/9 ratio and has a strikeout percentage of 26.77% which ranks 9th among qualified MLB starters. Arrieta has a solid matchup against the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday night who come into the contest hitting just .249 against RHP. Arrieta did surrender 3 runs in his first contest against the Phillies earlier this season but did strikeout 8 hitters in that contest. Arrieta has posted a 0.91 ERA with 74 K’s in 69.1 IP since the All-Star Break and is worth the investment tonight.
Catcher – Matt Wieters – Baltimore Orioles
Matt Wieters is hitting .263 with 6 HR’s and just 18 RBI’s on the season however, has played well as of late as he is hitting .333 with a double and HR over his last three games. Wieters was back in the lineup on Tuesday after dealing with a slight wrist injury and with the couple of extra days off, should be back in the lineup tonight in a decent matchup against Danny Duffy of the Kansas City Royals. Duffy comes into tonight’s game with a 4.17 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. Duffy has been better as of late but is still allowing RHB’s to post a .278 average, .444 slugging percentage, and .800 OPS on the season. Over the last three seasons, Wieters is hitting .297 and posting a .883 OPS against LHP and as he is hitting .313 at Camden Yards this season, he is good value play at just $2400.
First Base – Paul Goldschmidt – Arizona Diamondbacks
Goldschmidt continues to struggle in the month of September as almost half through the month the slugging first baseman is hitting just .179 with a HR. Even with a difficult month, Goldschmidt is still putting up a great season as on the season he is hitting .317 with 27 HR’s, 97 RBI’s and 21 SB’s. Goldschmidt has a decent matchup against the left-handed Alex Wood of the Los Angeles Dodgers in which in his career, he is hitting .500 (3-6) with a HR. Wood has had a good season posting a 3.51 ERA but does have a 1.39 WHIP and is allowing RHB’s to post a .291 average and .774 OPS on the season. Goldschmidt has crushed LHP’s in his career and is currently posting a .356 average, .615 slugging percentage, and 1.066 OPS against lefties this season. Goldschmidt is hitting .335 with a 1.035 OPS at Chase Field this season and as he only cost $4000 due to his recent struggles, is a great option if you can get him in your lineups tonight.
Second Base – Javier Baez – Chicago Cubs
I feel that the Cubs have one of the better stacking possibilities tonight with their RHB’s facing the left-handed Adam Morgan and due to this, I’m taking the Javier Baez as my second baseman tonight. In the 8 games that Baez has played since being called up, he has posted a solid .320 average with a homerun and 3 RBI’s. Morgan comes into tonight’s game with a 4.42 ERA and 1.24 WHIP and has been hit hard by RHB’s as he is allowing RHB’s to post a .281 average, .516 slugging percentage, and .841 OPS. Morgan was hit hard in his recent outing giving up 6 runs on 8 hits in 6.1 IP against the Red Sox last Friday. Baez is one of the many very talented Cubs rookies and as he hit .324 with 13 HR’s and 61 RBI’s in 70 games down at Triple AAA this season, he is a decent choice for just $2600 tonight.
Shortstop – Addison Russell – Chicago Cubs
I’m going to stay in Chicago and go with the other talented rookie middle infielder in Addison Russell as my shortstop tonight. Russell is hitting just .243 on the season but does have 13 HR’s and 44 RBI’s. Russell has been hitting better since the All-Star Break as he has posted a .268 average and .791 OPS (8 HR’s). Russell has been on fire as of late as over the past week he is hitting .300 (6-20) with 3 HR’s and 6 RBI’s. Russell hasn’t fared great against LHP on the season but I think this is a good matchup for tonight going against the lefty Adam Morgan. Russell loses some value as he bats at the bottom of the Cubs lineup but as I need to continue to save money as I went with Arrieta, I’m hoping that Russell can continue his hot hand against Philadelphia on Thursday night.
Third Base – Todd Frazier – Cincinnati Reds
I’m going to stick with Todd Frazier for the second straight day as the slugging third baseman had a big game last night going 3 for 5 with a double, HR, 3 R’s and 3 RBI’s and is still only cost $2400 to get him on your team. Frazier has been in a 2nd half of the season slump, but this still is a player that is posting a .262 average with 32 HR’s, 83 RBI’s and 11 SB on the season. Frazier is going up against the right-handed John Lackey of the St. Louis Cardinals who is having a nice season posting a 2.90 ERA and 1.22 WHIP. Lackey has actually struggled more on the road this season posting a 4.12 ERA and in his three starts against Cincinnati this season is 0-2 with a 3.60 ERA. Frazier is hitting .289 with 18 HR’s at home on the season and as I’m going to with a big name/high priced pitcher tonight, Frazier is pretty much an automatic play at third base for the his price and value.
Outfield – Dexter Fowler – Chicago Cubs
For my last Cubs in my stack today, I’m going to go with Dexter Fowler. Fowler is hitting just .253 on the season but does have 17 HR’s, 42 RBI’s and 17 SB’s on the season. Fowler has been outstanding since the All-Star break as he has posted a .293 average, .547 slugging percentage, and .966 OPS. Fowler will be up against the left-handed Adam Morgan of Philadelphia which is good news for Fowler as he has posted a .314 average and .854 OPS against LHP on the season. Over the last three seasons, Fowler has hit .327 against the Phillies and with a great matchup tonight, I think Fowler could have a big day at the plate.
Outfield – Stephen Piscotty – St. Louis Cardinals
Stephen Piscotty has been a nice surprise for the Cardinals as the rookie left-fielder is currently hitting .329 with 4 HR’s and 30 RBI’s since being called up in mid-July. Piscotty has yet to have a month in which he hasn’t hit at least .300 and is currently hitting .306 so far for the month of September. Piscotty has a decent matchup against the right-handed Michael Lorenzen of the Cincinnati Reds who comes into this matchup with a 5.54 ERA and 1.65 WHIP. Lorenzen has really struggled since the All-Star break as he has posted a 10.43 ERA while giving up 45 hits and 16 walks in seven starts. Lorenzen has been better against RHB’s however, Piscotty has been real solid against RHP’s on the season posting a .323 average and .885 OPS. Lorenzen currently has a 5.40 ERA against the Cardinals this season and I can see Piscotty having some decent chances tonight with runners on base to have a big fantasy night.
Outfield – Josh Reddick – Oakland Athletics
Josh Reddick is hitting .274 on the season with 16 HR’s and 68 RBI’s and as he is facing a hittable LHP in Colby Lewis of the Texas Rangers, he is a decent pick for my remaining $2400 salary. Lewis comes into tonight’s game with a 4.68 ERA and 1.26 WHIP and has struggled recently as in his last three starts he has given up a combined 15 ER’s in 15.2 IP. Lewis is allowing LHB’s to post a .272 average and .757 OPS against him on the season. Reddick has fared well against RHP’s on the season posting a .292 average, .481 slugging percentage and .823 OPS. Reddick has been good on the road this season hitting at a .283 mark and has hit 10 of his 16 HR’s away from Overstock.com Coliseum. Reddick has been great against Texas on the season as he has posted a .438 (14-32) average with a 1.253 OPS (3 HR’s, 15 RBI’s) and I’m hoping he can continue this type of success tonight in Texas.
