Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice – 9/14/2015
MLB Picks for your MLB Daily Fantasy Leagues
September 14th, 2015
Here is my lineup for tonight’s games. Please note that I’m using the salary cap based on FanDuel prices.
Also, as this is written the day before/morning of the games, please check the lineups and weather to ensure you have all active players going tonight and that any pitching matchups mentioned below haven’t changed. Good Luck everyone!
USA TODAY Sports
Pitcher – Eduardo Rodriguez – Boston Red Sox
Eduardo Rodriguez has been in solid in his first full season with the Boston Red Sox as the left-hander has posted a 4.05 ERA and 1.27 WHIP while striking out 80 batters in 104.1 IP. Rodriguez has a decent 6.9 K/9 ratio and a strikeout percentage of 18% on the season. Rodriguez has a decent matchup against the Baltimore Orioles who rank 4th in MLB in total strikeouts on the season. Baltimore is only hitting .250 against LHP’s on the season (ranked 18th). Rodriguez has been solid as of late as he has not allowed more than 2 ER’s in his past 4 starts including a 7 inning gem against the Philadelphia Phillies on 9/6 in which he gave up just 1 ER and struck out 7. Rodriguez has faced Baltimore twice this season and although he was hit hard in the most recent outing, also pitched very well against the Orioles earlier in the season giving up no runs while striking out 7 in 6 IP. The Red Sox are playing well at the moment and although Rodriguez is certainly not a lock tonight, if he continues to pitch how he has over the past few weeks, he should be able to get us around 15 points tonight.
Catcher – Buster Posey – San Francisco Giants
Buster Posey is having another outstanding season as the San Francisco catcher is currently hitting .329 with 17 HR’s and 85 RBI’s on the season. Posey has been on fire as of late as he is hitting .412 over the past week and .432 (16-37) so far for the month of September. Posey and the Giants have one of the better matchups tonight as they go against the right-handed Keyvius Sampson of the Cincinnati Reds who comes into tonight’s game with a 6.94 ERA and 1.82 WHIP. Sampson is allowing opposing hitters to post a .311 average and .861 OPS against him on the season. Posey has been great against RHP on the season as he has posting a .329 average and .874 OPS. Posey is hitting .354 since the All-Star break and although you’ll need to do a quick check to make sure he is in the lineup tonight, he is a great option at a somewhat reasonable price tonight.
First Base – Brandon Belt – San Francisco Giants
I’m going to stay in San Francisco and go with Brandon Belt as my first baseman tonight. Belt comes into tonight’s game with a .279 average with 18 HR’s and 65 RBI’s and currently is riding a 5 game hitting streak. As I mentioned above in the Posey write-up, Belt has a great matchup against the right-handed Keyvius Sampson of the Cincinnati Reds. Sampson has been lit up by LHB’s all season as he has allowed LHB’s to post a .373 (25-67) average, .537 slugging percentage, and .993 OPS. Belt has been far better against RHP’s as he has posted a .285 average and .845 OPS against them on the season. Belt has played well at AT&T Park this season as he has hit .313 and posted a .874 OPS and with Keyvius Sampson coming into San Francisco tonight, I don’t see why Belts can’t continue his success at his home ball park tonight.
Second Base – Brian Dozier – Minnesota Twins
Brian Dozier is hitting only .240 so far on the season however, still have been a decent fantasy player at the second base position as he has been able to connect for 27 HR’s, 70 RBI’s and 11 SB’s on the season. Dozier has a decent matchup against the left-handed Kyle Lobstein of the Detroit Tigers on Monday night who comes into this matchup with a 5.31 ERA and 1.53 WHIP. Lobstein has given up at least 3 ER’s in each of his last 5 appearances and has struggled against RHB’s on the season allowing RHB’s to post a .321 average and .892 OPS. Dozier splits between RHP and LHP have been pretty even this season but over the past three seasons, Dozier has been far better against LHP posting a .284 average and .858 OPS. In his career against Lobstein, Dozier is hitting .333 (2-6). Lobstein is currently posting a 23.14 ERA against the Twins this season and I’m hoping that Dozier and the Twins can continue this type of success against the left-hander.
Shortstop – Xander Bogaerts – Boston Red Sox
Xander Bogaerts is having a great season with the Boston Red Sox as the shortstop is hitting .321 with 5 HR’s, 71 RBI’s and 9 SB. Bogaerts has excelled against LHP on the season but I still like him tonight going up against the right-handed Kevin Gausman of the Baltimore Orioles who struggles more with RHB’s. Gausman comes into tonight’s matchup with a 4.43 ERA and 1.26 WHIP and is allowing RHB’s to post a .280 average and .867 OPS on the season. In his two games coming out of the bullpen against the Red Sox this season, Gausman has posted a 4.91 ERA as he has allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and walk in 3.2 IP. Bogaerts is hitting .301 against RHP on the season and has posted a respectable .292 average on the road. The Red Sox bats have been on fire over the past month and as they are hitting .308 over the past week, I like the chances of Bogaerts and the Red Sox to have a good offensive night at the plate.
Third Base – David Wright – New York Mets
David Wright is hitting .286 with 3 HR’s and 8 RBI’s in his limited action this season and although the veteran third baseman is hitting just .182 over the past week, I like his matchup against the left-handed Justin Nicolino of the Miami Marlins on Monday. Nicolino comes into tonight’s matchup with a 3.72 ERA and 1.34 WHIP and was pretty roughed up in his recent outing against Milwaukee Brewers giving up 5 runs on 9 hits in just 4.1 IP. Nicolino doesn’t have the arsenal to really strike anyone out as he has registered just 16 k’s in 48.1 IP this season. Nicolino is allowing opposing hitters to post a .283 average and .790 OPS against him on the season. In his previous three seasons, Wright has been great against LHP as he has posted a .338 average and .963 OPS and as Wright is facing a very hittable lefty tonight, I think he has decent value at a $3500 price tag.
Outfield – Yoenis Cespedes – New York Mets
I’m going to stay with the Mets and go with arguably the best player in MLB over the past month in Yoenis Cespedes. On the season, Cespedes is hitting .297 with 34 HR’s and 102 RBI’s and since being acquired by the Mets at the trade deadline, is hitting .308 with 16 HR’s and 41 RBI’s in just 40 GP. Cespedes has a solid matchup against Justin Nicolino who even with a 3.72 ERA is nothing more than an average at best MLB pitcher. Nicolino is allowing RHB’s to post a .285 average and .812 OPS against him on the season. Cespedes is hitting .382 over the past week with an incredible 5 HR’s and 15 RBI’s and as he already has 8 HR’s in the month of September, he is worth every penny tonight.
Outfield – J.D. Martinez – Detroit Tigers
J.D. Martinez continue to show that his 2014 season was no fluke as the slugging right-fielder for the Detroit Tigers is currently hitting .285 with 36 HR’s and 94 RBI’s on the season. Martinez has been decent as of late hitting .280 over the past week including a 5-9 performance with 3 RBI’s in the double-header the Tigers has yesterday against the Cleveland Indians. Martinez will be facing the right-handed Tyler Duffey of the Minnesota Twins on Monday who comes into this matchup with a 4.18 ERA and 1.45 WHIP. Duffey has allowed opposing hitters to post a .260 average and .739 OPS against him on the season. Martinez has been outstanding against RHP on the season posting a .294 average and .902 OPS. Martinez has hit 28 of his 36 HR’s against RHP on the season and as he is hitting .333 (17-51) with 5 HR’s against the Twins this season, I like him for my lineups tonight.
Outfield – Jay Bruce – Cincinnati Reds
I know you must be thinking that Jay Bruce is one of my favorite players with the amount of times he has been on my team this year, but I swear he is not. Bruce is generally one of the better value picks in FanDuel as although the Cincinnati right-fielder is hitting just .233 on the season, he does have 20 HR’s and 76 RBI’s. I’m going with Bruce against tonight as he is facing the right-hander Tim Hudson of the San Francisco Giants who currently is posting a 4.51 ERA and 1.36 WHIP. Hudson is currently allowing LHB’s to post a .319 average and .807 OPS against him. In his career against Hudson Bruce is currently posting a .300 (3-10) average with a HR. Bruce has 17 of his 20 HR’s against RHP on the season and is currently hitting .417 with 2 HR’s against the Giants on the season. Bruce always has the power to have a mutli-HR game and with a favorable matchup against Hudson tonight, I’ll once against take my chances with Jay Bruce.
