Fantasy Basketball 2015-16: Waiver Wire Update 1/8
Fantasy Basketball Daily Leagues: Sleeper Picks and Advice for Tonight's Matchups
January 8, 2016
We’ve got 10 NBA games coming up tonight, so it will be a heavy evening for seasonal and daily fantasy basketball leagues. That said, let’s take a closer look at the waiver wire and see which players are trending out there as adds right now.
J.R. Smith, SG/SF, Cleveland Cavaliers: Smith is still available in about 1/3 of the leagues out there, and that number is shrinking quickly given his recent play. In his past two games, he’s posted 49 points, 13 3-pointers, six rebounds, two assists and three steals.
Smith can get hot, and when he does he’s one of the best scorers in the league. He’s made at least one 3-pointer in his last seven games straight and will look to keep that streak going in Minnesota tonight.

Mario Chalmers, PG/SG, Memphis Grizzlies: Chalmers is a trendy pickup right now, thanks to his fine performance in OKC. He put up 23 points, eight rebounds, nine assists and two steals in that one, nailing four 3-pointers in the process.
Chalmers has double-digit points in four of his last five appearances, and has usually been good for a handful of assists and rebounds this season. His minutes-load will depend on the health of Courtney Lee and Mike Conley, however. He gets the Nuggets tonight.
Devin Booker, SG, Phoenix Suns: Booker has been showing us quite a bit lately. He recorded his first double-double against Charlotte, with 17 points, 10 rebounds two assists, a steal and three 3-pointers.
That gives Booker double-digit points in six of his last seven games, and he appears to keep improving as the season rolls along. He should see plenty of action tonight against the Heat.
Nikola Pekovic, C, Minnesota Timberwolves: Deep-leaguers looking for a big man should check out Pekovic. He made his season debut this week, posting 12 points and two rebounds in 16 minutes.
Pekovic will be on the floor whenever Karl Anthony-Towns isn’t, and his minutes-load will stay relatively low for the time being. Still, he showed some good stuff in his season debut and will try to keep it going against the Cavs tonight.
Terrence Ross, SG/SF, Toronto Raptors: With DeMarre Carroll gone for a while (6-8 weeks), Ross is getting some looks in fantasy. He should see more time on the floor in the coming weeks, and deep-league owners should check him out.
Ross’ strong area will be 3-point shooting, and he’ll provide a few rebounds and steals here and there. He’ll be in Washington tonight as the Raptors’ road trip continues.
