Fantasy Baseball 2016: Waiver Wire Update 5/17
Fantasy Baseball Daily Leagues: Sleeper Picks and Advice for Upcoming Matchups
May 17, 2016
Around here, Tuesday means it’s time once again to check out the waiver wire in the world of fantasy baseball. Let’s take a closer look at the numbers and see if any of the trending players make sense for your team right now.
Danny Valencia, 3B/OF, Oakland Athletics: Valencia has been one of the most-added fantasy guys over the last couple of days, thanks to a great series against Tampa during the weekend.
In those three games, Valencia logged six hits with five homers, five runs and seven RBI. He’s been fighting off injuries this season, but when healthy Valencia has been great. He’s got the Rangers and the Yankees this week.

Melvin Upton, OF, San Diego Padres: Upton had a nice series over the weekend as well. In four games against the Brewers in Milwaukee, he logged eight hits, three runs, two homers, four RBI and a stolen base.
Upton is hitting .281 with five homers, 16 RBI and seven stolen bases. For low-end, across-the-board stats, you can’t do much better right now. The Giants series starts today.
Jonathan Schoop, 2B, Baltimore Orioles: In a four-game weekend series against the Tigers, Schoop was great on six hits, two runs, two homers and a whopping 10 RBI.
That gives Schoop totals of seven homers and 22 RBI thus far, and his .266 BA seems to be climbing by the day. Today starts a three-game home-stand against the Mariners before Schoop and the team ship off to L.A. for the Angels.
Evan Gattis, C/OF, Houston Astros: Gattis will be rejoining the Astros in Chicago today. He’s been down in the minors for a stint working on his defensive abilities as a catcher.
Once Gattis plays a couple of games and picks up that catcher eligibility in fantasy, he makes an interesting add for those in need of a backstop. He’ll split time with Jason Castro as the team finishes up in Chicago before coming home for the Rangers this weekend.
Tyler Duffey, SP, Minnesota Twins: Let’s finish things up on the mound today and see what’ Duffey’s up to. He’s been a hot add over the past two days after going seven shutout innings with six strikeouts against Cleveland.
Duffey has put together a nice 1.85 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP thus far, and will be at home against the Blue Jays on Saturday. That’ll be a tough test for him, but he’s got the goods to put up a decent outing.
