Fantasy Baseball Update 7/24/16: Key Matchups Early This Week
fantasy baseball Waiver Wire Picks For Seasonal And Daily Leagues
July 24, 2016
Sunday is always a great day for us fantasy baseball owners to take stock of our lineups and see what’s happening out there on the waiver wire. Let’s visit with a few of the notable waiver wire adds out there and see who’s trending ahead of the early-week match-ups in the MLB right now.
Zach Eflin, SP, Philadelphia Phillies: Eflin is a hot SP add right now in the fantasy world, thanks to his great start his last time out. In that one, Eflin went a complete nine innings with six strikeouts and no earned for a shutout against the Pirates.

Elfin now owns a 3.40 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP on the year, and has won three of his last four outings. He’ll get another shot on Wednesday against the Marlins, so grab him now.
Jose De Leon, SP, Los Angeles Dodgers: Here’s another arm to add to your possible pickup list. De Leon is coming off eight shutout innings with 10 strikeouts at the Triple-A level in his last start, and seems primed to join the big club at any time now.
De Leon is getting lots of attention from around the organization and fanbase in Los Angeles, and with the Dodgers in need of pitching, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a call-up this week.
Jedd Gyorko, 1B/2B/3B/SS, St. Louis Cardinals: Utility man extraordinaire Gyorko has been a hot pickup this weekend. Heading into yesterday’s game, he had 10 hits with seven runs, five homers and eight RBI in just his last four outings. He did whiff 0-for-4 on Saturday, though.
Gyorko has been crushing lately, and he’s a very versatile play in fantasy circles. He’ll be heading to New York for the Mets this week.
Hernan Perez, 2B/3B/OF, Milwaukee Brewers: Let’s head down the list a little bit and look at Perez, who is another utility man gaining some fantasy attention. Heading into yesterday’s game, he had 10 hits with three runs, a homer and seven RBI alongside two steals in just his last six games. He bagged another hit yesterday against the Cubs.
Perez is still widely available (roughly 97 percent) in most fantasy leagues, and he offers a very nice blend of low-end speed and power numbers. He’ll see the Diamondbacks this week.
Cameron Rupp, C, Philadelphia Phillies: Lots of us need catcher help in fantasy right now, as there’s not a lot to choose from at that position. That brings us to Rupp, who got some attention with two hits, a homer and three runs on Friday. Unfortunately, he also took a fastball off his head Saturday and was pulled from the game. The good news is that he showed no concussion symptoms and is considered day-to-day at the moment.
Considering the void of viable fantasy catchers on the map these days, a guy like Rupp with a decent BA and an RBI total hovering around the 30s is a decent low-end pickup. He gets Miami this week.
