Fantasy Football Update 9/19/16: Week 3 Waiver Wire Picks
Fantasy Football Sleepers and Waiver Wire Picks for Week 3
September 19, 2016
Most of this weekend’s NFL games are in the books, so it’s time for us owners to start looking ahead to the fantasy football waiver wire for Week 3. Let’s check out some of the notable adds our there right now and see if anyone’s worth a flier.
Jerick McKinnon, RB, Minnesota Vikings: McKinnon carried the ball twice for just two yards against Green Bay on Sunday, but that’s not why owners are gravitating toward him. With Adrian Peterson’s knee injury putting the RB situation up in the air in Minnesota, we could have a real find here.

The early indications are that Peterson dodged a proverbial bullet with his knee injury, so might not be as bad as it could have been. Still, watch him in practice this week (if he’s out there) and pick up McKinnon just in case.
Fozzy Whittaker, RB, Carolina Panthers: It seems like Whittaker pops up on the waiver wire radar every now and then, and here he is again. He’s coming off an 11.1-point effort against the 49ers, carrying 16 times for 100 yards and grabbing three balls for 31 receiving yards.
Whittaker gets a bump this week with Jonathan Stewart being injured. We won’t know the full status here until later in the week, but if Stewart is out, Whittaker is the next man up.
Dennis Pitta, TE, Baltimore Ravens: Remember when Pitta was a must-have guy and the next potential TE breakout? He’s back again after a monster Week 2 in which he caught nine of his 12 targets for 102 yards in a win over the Browns.
Pitta could be a nice low-end snatch-up right now. He’s got great chemistry with QB Joe Flacco, and when he’s healthy he’s a beast at TE.
Jacob Tamme, TE, Atlanta Falcons: Before we leave the TE slot, let’s check out Tamme. He wasn’t expected to do much in Week 2, but proved the doubters wrong with five catches on eight targets for 75 yards and a TD.
That gives Tamme 16 targets through two games, and he’s fitting in nicely as a sizable part of the Falcons passing game. He’ll get New Orleans in Week 3.
Tyrell Williams, WR, San Diego Chargers: Ahead of Week 2, Williams was a big pickup with Keenan Allen out for the year. Williams made good on that promise Sunday, with six targets and three receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown.
Williams is a must-own guy right now, and has the potential to put up some really big numbers. He’s still available in over half the leagues out there, but that will soon change.
