Fantasy Football Update 10/3/16: Week 5 Waiver Wire Picks
Fantasy Football Sleepers and Waiver Wire Picks for Week 5
October 3, 2016
Even though we’e still got one more game to play this evening, that shouldn’t stop us fantasy football owners from looking ahead to Week 5 in the NFL and all the waiver wire pickups that come with it. Let’s take a look at a few trending names out there and see who’s making an impact this week.
Terrance West, RB, Baltimore Ravens: Prior to Week 4, West had remained relatively quiet, not scoring more than 5.7 points in a game. That changed in the Oakland matchup, however, as West burst out of his shell for 17.3 points with 113 yards and a TD.

West bagged 21 carries in that game, cementing himself as the feature back in what finally became an effective Baltimore run game. He’s got a decent matchup against the Redskins coming next weekend.
Carson Wentz, QB, Philadelphia Eagles: Time to head back to the wire and grab Wentz. He had the week off, but don’t forget his solid opening performance.
In his first three games, Went scored at least 19.2 fantasy points in two of them. He’s also got two 250-plus-yard games and five touchdown passes He’ll get a nice matchup against Detroit in his next outing.
Eddie Royal, WR, Chicago Bears: Deeper- to mid-sized PPR leagues need to take a long look at Royal. He’s coming off a nice game against Detroit, grabbing seven balls for 111 yards and a touchdown.
That makes three weeks with at least. 11.2 fantasy points for Royal, who has been surprisingly good as the slot receiver for the Bears. Up next is a pretty slow and jet-lagged Colts defense.
Bilal Powell, RB, New York Jets: There are a couple of reasons to look at Powell today. Number one, he has at least 10 touches in each of the last two weeks, and managed eight points against the Seahawks in an increasingly prominent role.
Number two, lead Jets RB Matt Forte was carted off for X-rays after the Seahawks loss, and there’s no telling what’s going on there. Powell is a handcuff at the very least and a very promising sleeper pickup at best.
Pittsburgh Steelers Defense: The Steelers D isn’t quite as dominant as it once was, and they’re still available in almost half the leagues out there. That said, the squad had a nice game against KC last night, bagging nine fantasy points with four sacks, 14 points allowed, a fumble recovery and a pick.
The Steelers are on the streaming radar this week if you can get them. They’ll be facing the Jets, who are ripe for the slaughter after QB Ryan Fitzpatricks nine interceptions in the past two weeks.
