The Minnesota Lynx will begin to defend their 2013 WNBA title with a Friday matchup against the Washington Mystics at the Verizon Center.
The Lynx have won two of the last three WNBA championships and enter this season as the overwhelming favorites to repeat. Led by Maya Moore and Seimone Augustus, the Lynx have one of the best 1-2 scoring punches in the WNBA which combined for 34.8 points last season. Lindsay Whalen returns at the point and was third in the league last season with 5.8 assists per game. Overall, the Lynx are the most talented team in the WNBA and return all five of their starters from a year ago. The Lynx were also 11-6 SU on the road last season.

The Mystics had a subpar last season with a 17-17 record, but were 10-7 SU at home and finished the season strong with five wins in their final seven games. The Mystics are led by Ivory Latta, who averaged 13.9 points and 4.4 assists last season. Latta is one of the best pure shooters in the WNBA, as she shot 90.2 percent from the free throw line and 39.6 percent from three. Crystal Langhorne is the glue for the Mystics, a 6’2” forward who averaged 12 points and 7.2 rebounds. With those two players, the Mystics have a chance to be a surprise team this season.
The Lynx are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 road games and 23-8 ATS in their last 31 games overall. The Mystics are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 Friday games.
The Mystics have actually won their last two meetings SU against the Lynx. However, this is a mighty soft line given the fact it is the first game of the season. The Lynx are the better team, and they should be able to cover the number by pulling away in the second half.
