Here are the Top 10 athletes to follow on Twitter.
Cristiano Ronaldo, @Cristiano – Not only is Cristiano Ronaldo arguably the best soccer player in today’s game, but he also has by far the most Twitter followers of any other athlete with more than a jaw-dropping 28 million. I’m almost positive a lot of those followers are women who simply can’t get enough of Ronaldo’s charming looks, but of course, it also helps that he is a 29-year-old who has the world’s most popular sport wrapped around his finger.
USA TODAY Sports
LeBron James, @KingJames – Who doesn’t want to follow the most popular NBA player and one of the 10 greatest basketball players of all time? LeBron James is quite active on social media, often posting pics on his Instagram and tweeting about current events going on in the sports world. The only time LeBron isn’t communicating with nearly 14 million followers is when the NBA playoffs begin.
Shaquille O'Neal, @SHAQ – Although Shaq is no longer dominating NBA players in the paint, he’s still making people laugh and giving out words of wisdom on his Twitter account, which has more than eight million followers. Shaq has never been one to hold his tongue, and he’s guaranteed for a joke or two throughout the week that will make you chuckle. Shaq is a great follow for NBA fans everywhere.
Joel Embiid, @JoelEmbiid- Joel Embiid may have yet to play a regular season NBA game, but he’s climbing fast up the ranks of the Twitter universe. With nearly 300,000 followers, Embiid is the classic joker who has already trolled the likes of Kim Kardashian and Rihanna. Nothing is off limits with Embiid, as he’s constantly tweeting whatever comes to mind and has even asked both celebrities on a date. Sometimes things get so out of hand that you can’t help but wonder when the Philadelphia 76ers step in and tell the rookie to tone things down.
Floyd Mayweather, @FloydMayweather– Money Mayweather is a great follow for those who want to improve their quality of life. If you need some inspiration to do better, just give the undefeated boxing champion a follow and see how things turn out for you. Floyd Mayweather is constantly tweeting pictures of his glorious lifestyle that includes fancy cars and stacks of money. It can sometimes seem a little overwhelming, but there’s no question Mayweather put the work in to get where he’s at. If you need a little motivation in life, give Floyd a follow.
Chad Johnson, @ochocinco – Chad Johnson has always been one of the top follows as far as athletes are concerned, and nothing has changed now that he plays in the CFL. Chad Johnson is one of the more active tweeters in the sports world, as he’s racked up more than 78,000 tweets and usually always shoots right from the hip. Nothing is off limits with Johnson, as he communicates with his fans, gives relationship advice and posts pictures daily. You should have been following Johnson for quite some time.
Warren Sapp, @WarrenSapp – Since I included Shaq, it’s only right I list Warren Sapp as one of the top athletes to follow on Twitter. Much like the former Los Angeles Laker, Sapp is somebody who isn’t afraid to speak his mind and give the fans something to talk about. While it may not always be the popular opinion, Sapp has never really cared what others thought and is going to tell it the way he sees it. With football season in full swing, Sapp is an underrated follow.
Kevin Durant, @KDTrey5 – Sometimes you have to catch Kevin Durant at the right time, but he’s usually active on Twitter and a lot of times answers questions with fans. In fact, Durant is one of the top athletes on social media when it comes to interacting with his fans. While a lot of other players post like once or week or don’t respond to anything, you can always count on KD coming through and responding to tweets.
Kobe Bryant, @kobebryant – While Kobe may not tweet as often as others on this list, he’s constantly giving out words of wisdom and being honest. Kobe is often a private person and very rarely gives interviews that tap into his life off the court. When Kobe does speak and gives his thoughts on things, people usually listen. Well, it doesn’t get much better than Kobe’s Twitter account. If you’re not one of Kobe’s 5.5 million followers, I suggest you hop on board.
Larry Fitzgerald, @LarryFitzgerald - Larry Fitzgerald is one of the top people off the field you’re going to find in sports. The Arizona Cardinals wide receiver is constantly doing charity work and interacting with his fans. Larry Fitzgerald is always sending out positive vibes and showing off his incredible work ethic. It’s really hard not to root for somebody as genuine as Fitzgerald.
