The NHL All-Star game takes centre stage in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday evening as the league's best come together to cap off a weekend full of festivities.

The NHL All Star game has taken on a new format in recent years as they do a draft style approach instead of an Eastern-Western battle or a North America-International style and this year's captains are Chicago forward Jonathan Toews and Columbus forward Nick Foligno. While both teams are obviously stacked to the nines Team Toews won the popular vote in terms of the better overall roster despite the home crowd being in favour of Columbus as some notable big time names joining Toews include John Tavares, Jakub Voracek, Tyler Seguin, Ryan Getzlaf, and Rick Nash up front as well as Shea Weber, Ryan Suter, Aaron Ekblad, and Mark Giordano at the point and while this usually turns into a spectacle after the first five minutes that is a formidable roster when looking at it objectively. Team Toews does have the lesser of the goaltending tandems as they have Corey Crawford, Jaro Halak, and Roberto Luongo which is again ridiculous but comparatively Team Foligno does have Carey Price, Brian Elliott, and Marc-Andre Fleury. Team Toews does have the edge on the blue line but I think you have to lean towards Team Foligno in goal.
The standard for the all-star draft is to select a player from the host team to draft a group and this year's honour went to Foligno who has been a huge part of the Columbus organization since coming over but I think this weekend will be the highlight of this franchise at least for this season. Foligno drafted a great team as well focusing more of his energy on establishing great goaltending but there isn't really a weakness on either team and this game will be fun to watch for the die hard and casual fan alike. Team Foligno will have the home crowd on their side despite a number of players being division rivals of the Blue Jackets but at least for one night I think they will put their allegiances aside and cheer for the group assembled by their home town all star. Again it is really tough to look into these rosters and find separation and most of there games are just for fun but I do think there is value on taking Team Foligno here as they are the “home” team and to me have the better goaltending group which in an all star game can make the difference.
