2015 Valero Texas Open: Prediction, Odds, Pick

Valero Texas Open: Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 10:00 am (TPC San Antonio, Oaks Course)

the line: See the Latest Odds

TV: Golf, NBC

As the Valero Texas Open begins this Thursday at the TPC San Antonio’s AT&T Oaks Course, let’s take a look at some golfers you should include on your card. Of course, I look at guys who may be longshots but provide you great value. Here goes..

Jimmy Walker - Jimmy Walker has really had some rough outings since his victory in the Sony Open in Hawaii. The good news is that Walker hasn’t played in a couple of weeks, which should translate to a focused and refreshed golfer. Also, Walker is quite comfortable with this course given that he resides in San Antonio. Walker finished tied for third at the Valero Texas Open back in 2010. At the end of the day, Jimmy Walker is the FedEx Cup leader at the moment, and it’s hard to pass him up with odds of +2000.

Dustin Johnson - Speaking of guys who have had some time off, Dustin Johnson is worth a look at odds of +800. Usually I shy away from odds of less than +1000, but Johnson is one of the top golfers in this field and this course is actually where he made his debut back in 2007. When consistently playing, Johnson is always a threat to win a tournament. In fact, the last time we saw Johnson was a victory at the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship. Dustin Johnson certainly isn’t a longshot to win the tournament, but you could certainly do a lot worse with healthy odds of eight times your money.

Brendan Steele - Brendan Steele won this event back in 2011, and the Valero Texas Open has a history of producing two-time winners such as Justin Leonard and Zach Johnson. Steele has made the cut in all 10 events he’s played this season, and he’s even cracked the Top 15 in two of his last three appearances. Brendan Steele may be due for that one breakout performance and I’m willing to bet it would come at a place he’s already won and feels comfortable. I’ll gladly take Steele with odds of +4000.

Phil Mickelson - At this stage, Phil Mickelson is usually an afterthought when it comes to future bets. However, Mickelson is easily the biggest name in the field and the most accomplished. Assuming Mickelson is motivated to erase last year’s performance that forced him to withdraw due to a back injury, I think I’ll throw a little something on him with odds of +2500.
