We go from Sunny California to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida for the 2016 Honda Classic. There have only been four golfers to win the Honda Classic more than once, so there’s going to be plenty of value out there this week.
Here are some golfers to consider throwing onto your card.
USA TODAY Sports
Rory McIlroy - We usually don’t start off with a favorite in these type of articles, but having Rory McIlroy on your card is a must. McIlroy finished 13th in the 2009 Honda Classic, won in 2012 and was a runner-up in 2014. Add in McIlroy's form since late last year, and you have no choice but to ride the hot hand. McIlroy is third in greens in regulation percentage, third in strokes gained tee to green and 12th in scoring average. McIlroy is the clear front-runner to become the fifth player to win the Honda Classic twice, but odds of +530 still pack a lot of value.
Patrick Reed - Take out a couple of poor performances in January, and Patrick Reed has been one of the more consistent golfers over the last year. Reed finished second at the World Challenge, second at the Hyundai Tournament and had an impressive sixth-place finish at Pebble Beach. Reed has yet to miss the cut this season, and he’s fifth in ball striking and ninth in the all-around ranking. Oh, Reed also has two top-25 finishes in three appearances at the Honda Classic. Take a stab with Reed and odds of +2200.
Brooks Koepka - Brooks Koepka, who is from West Palm Beach, heads home in great form. Koepka finished eighth at Pebble Beach, which now is three top-10 finishes in his last four events. Koepka is hitting the ball very well lately, and it seems like it’s only a matter of time before he gets his second career PGA victory. Koepka is 12th in driving distance, eighth in birdie average and seventh in all-around ranking. Add the fact he’s playing in his hometown, and odds of +3300 with Koepka are mighty tasty.
Padraig Harrington - Padraig Harrington heads into this week in terrible form, as he finished 45th in the Northern Trust and missed the cut completely in the Phoenix Open. Harrington is 72nd in all-around ranking and 142nd in driving distance. Now that the bad is out of the way, Harrington did win the Honda Classic last year, and he’s also one of the four players ever to win this course twice. Two of Harrington’s six PGA victories have come in Palm Beach Gardens. Nevermind Harrington’s current form, I’m taking a shot in the dark with odds of +8000.
Jonas Blixt - While we’re at it with the long, long shots, let’s throw Jonas Blixt on our card as well with odds of +8000. Blixt has been hitting the hell out of the ball recently, as he finished sixth at the Farmers Insurance and just finished third at Pebble Beach. Yes, after a long string of missing the cut, Blixt has been able to put together very impressive top-six finishes within the last month. If you think Blixt has another top-10 finish in him this week, you might as well throw him a bone with these insane odds.
