Every day I will release a pick at Twitter that will only be released at Twitter. It won’t be a pick available in the Premium Area, it won’t be available in the free picks, I won’t be giving it out on any radio shows or on other sites, it’s EXCLUSIVE to Twitter and to my handle, @SportsChatPlace

Why the change of heart, I thought Mitch didn’t care about Social Media?

It’s not that I didn’t care about social media, I always thought my site itself allowed our visitors and readers to interact and the 100’s of thousands who have emailed me all know I get back to everyone. But what was brought to my attention is we have a chance to grow even more in this space, not just the sports space, but in the social space and in the end, most growth is good.

No, it wasn’t my idea. I was at an Internet conference for mainstream Internet people and I ran into a woman named Melinda Fleming (@ICuratedCool) whose site and business has nothing to do with Sports, in fact she sells, reviews, and finds highly curated items and talks about them at her site Curated Cool (http://www.curatedcool.com) and while her site is under construction as I post this, and I will update this once it’s live, I can guarantee it is going to be a home run; here is someone who truly gets it, and I have seen many come and go giving this Internet thing a run and you guys don’t hear me say that too often, it’s usually the opposite.

In any event it took Melinda about 2 seconds to figure out my audience are probably already big users of Social Media like Twitter, and that you guys love free stuff and would love to get a free week of Premium Plus so basically what I couldn’t come up with over three years she thought up in about 4 minutes. Go figure. And the concept was born.

All you have to do is watch for my free TwitPick (#mitchstwitpick) and follow me @SportsChatPlace on Twitter and between 4 and 5 pm on most weekdays except days like New Year’s Day where there might be odd times on games I will tweet out the pick. Sounds like very little effort and a whole lot for free to me. As is everything around here this is a work in progress and we will make it bigger and better as it grows and even have special giveaways from time to time for those people following.
