2014 Breeder's Cup Fillies and Mares Turf Early Preview, Pick, and Odds
Of the 17 pre-entered for the 2014 Breeders Cup Fillies and Mares Turf, a handful are cross-entered so it will be interesting to see who lands where, but I feel comfortable giving Stephanie’s Kitten America’s best shot at upsetting the major European contenders including defending champion Dank who will certainly be favored to repeat. Other Europeans joining could be tough, particularly Tarfasha, who poses a legitimate threat to win in her own right, while L’Amour de Ma Vie may run in the Distaff and Veda and Fiesolina seem more likely for the Mile. If Chicquita, Just the Judge, and Secret Gesture go, they seem like they may be a thin cut below.
Emollient is another American based filly that may get some attention as she has shown some favor toward the SA strip and she put a pretty good effort toward this contest last year.
Abaco, Dayatthespa, Miss Serendipity, Parranda, Irish Mission, Rusty Slipper, and Stormy Lucy round out the lot of pre-entries that are sure to have their hands full if they so choose to run in this spot.
Early thoughts: While the top Europeans in the field figure to be very formidable, this could be one of the better spots for an American based runner to snag one of the turf crowns. Dayatthespa’s potential presence is very curious as it is tough to believe she’ll comfortably cover all this ground, but she’d certainly ensure a hot pace for Stephanie’s Kitten to close in to. Who commits, where they draw, and how they are bet will help clear things up.
