The Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Angels meet Tuesday in MLB doubleheader action from Angel Stadium. Game one will be a makeup of an April postponement. The Blue Jays are coming off a weekend series versus the Red Sox. Toronto managed to win three of those matchups to take the set. As for the Angels, they played the Dodgers over the weekend. The Angels took the Friday game but fell in the other pair. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Toronto played well versus a good Red Sox team over the weekend, losing 2-1 Saturday but otherwise taking victories 12-4 Friday, 1-0 Saturday and 9-8 in the Sunday game. In the finale victory, Toronto had to recover from seven earned and 10 hits given up by starter Hyun-jin Ryu.

For the starter job in the Tuesday game one, the Blue Jays will send out Steven Matz. Over his 96.1 innings this year Matz has 106 hits, 49 runs (46 earned), 13 homers allowed, 26 walks, 99 Ks and a 4.30 ERA. In game two, Toronto will bring out Ross Stripling. This year Stripling has 91.1 innings with 46 runs, 27 walks, 91 Ks and a 4.43 ERA.

Over on the Angels’ side, they notched a 4-3 win over the Dodgers on Friday, but then fell in the next two games 5-3 and 8-2 to drop the series. In the Sunday loss, Angels starter Reid Detmers went 5.0 frames with seven hits, two walks and five earned runs.

For game one on Tuesday, the Angels will send out Chris Rodriguez as the starter. Rodriguez has a 2-1 record with 27 strikeouts and a 3.86 ERA in 25.2 innings this year. For game two it’ll be Jose Suarez. Over 50.0 innings this year Suarez has 42 hits, 19 walks, 47 Ks and a 3.60 ERA.

The Angels are 10-1 in their last 11 opening games of doubleheaders and 6-1 in the last seven versus the AL East. LA is 4-1 in their last five versus a lefty starter and 5-2 in their last seven after scoring two or fewer runs in their previous game.

Meanwhile, the Jays are 6-1 in their last seven overall and 6-1 in their last seven home games. Toronto is 7-3 in their last 10 Tuesday games and 4-1 in their last five after a win.

GAME 1 PICK: For the opener I’m going with the Blue Jays. Toronto had a couple of scoring duds in their weekend series, but lately they’ve been plating quite a few runs. Matz also has two earned or fewer in three of his last four starts and should be able to contain the Angels offense.

GAME 2 PICK: In game two I think I’m leaning Blue Jays as well. Stripling has given up just three earned over his last three starts, a span of 16.1 innings. I like Suarez to do a decent job here as well, so this one could very well be a lower-scoring affair decided in the later innings.
