The Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves face off on Saturday in Philadelphia in a battle of NL East teams.
The Philadelphia Phillies look to be fading and will more than likely miss the post season for the second year in a row. On Friday Delmon Young had three hits, including a home run and Chase Utley and Darin Ruf each hit home runs as the Phillies scored four runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Ethan Martin allowed eight hits and six runs while striking out six over 4.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-1. For Saturday’s game, the Phillies start John Lannan who has won two of his last three decisions. For the season, Lannan has allowed 69 hits and 29 earned runs, while striking out 34 over 63.2 innings for a 3-4 record and a 4.10 ERA.

The Atlanta Braves just keep on rolling as they look to wire the field in the National League East this season. On Friday Brian McCann and Chris Jonson each had two hits and Jason Heyward had two hits as the Braves scored six runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Kris Medlen allowed six hits and four earned runs while striking eight over 6.0 innings to get the win and raise his record to 8-10 and Craig Kimbrel earned his 32nd save. For Saturday’s game the Braves start Brandon Beachy, who was belted in his only start this year. In his start Beachy allowed eight hits and seven runs while striking out five over just 3.2 innings.
Philadelphia is 1-11 in their last 12 games, 0-4 in game two of a series, and 5-1 in Lannan’s last six starts. Atlanta is 8-0 in their last eight games, 5-0 against a team with a losing record, and 1-7 in Beachy’s last eight starts against the NL East. Atlanta is 0-7 in Beachy’s last seven starts against Philadelphia.
While beachy was shelled last time out he has a career ErA around 3.00 so we have to figure he does better here and gets the win.
