The St Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds conclude their series at Great American Ball Park.
After dropping seven in a row, St Louis looked to have rediscovered their offense and winning touch as they pounded Cincinnati and Pittsburgh 26-3 in winning two straight. The good times came to a halt in an 8-3 defeat to the Reds on Saturday, with neither the work on the mound or at the plate looking good. Jake Westbrook couldn't get past the 5th inning with five runs plated on four hits and five walks, before Michael Blazek put this out of reach with three 8th inning runs allowed. The Cardinals offense was unable to keep up on four hits and five BB, with two runs scoring on fielder's choice ground outs. Lance Lynn gets the starting assignment against the Reds Sunday in the final game of the series. Lynn has been at the top of his game the last two times out, with one run allowed in each over 13 innings.

Cincinnati hasn't been playing well, but need to if they expect to make a run at the National League Central crown. Saturday's victory was only number four in ten contests and was at least a step in the right direction. The key for this team now is to stack up the wins and make this a prolonged hot streak. Starter Tony Cingrani had an average outing, with all three runs scored on four hits and five bases on balls through five frames, but the pen came to the rescue with four shut out innings. The bats totaled nine hits and walked eight with Devin Mesoraco going deep twice and driving in three, while Shin-Soo Choo clubbed a two run bomb. Cincinnati sends Mike Leake, who is enjoying the best season of his career thus far, to the bump next. Leake is 3-0 with a no decision over his last four outings with five runs given up over 27 frames.
This is a tough one, with Leake enjoying a great season, while Lynn has fared well in this match up, but his team hasn't been playing well. I'll take a chance with the Redbirds because of the plus odds...
