The Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees face off on Monday in Chicago in a battle of two struggling teams.
The Chicago White Sox are in a free fall and might just be playing the worst baseball in the majors right now. The White Sox are 0-10 in their last 10 games, 22-28 at home this season, and they are 24 games back in the American League Central. As a team the White Sox are hitting .246 with Gordon Beckham hitting .298, Alex Rios hitting .273, and Alejandro De Aza hitting .273. The White Sox pitching staff has an ERA of 3.97 with the starters at 3.88 and the bullpen at 4.17. For game one against the Yankees the White Sox start Jose Quintana who doesn’t get a lot of decisions but he does have a winning record. For the season Quintana has allowed 123 hits and 53 earned runs while striking out 105 over 131.2 innings for a 5-3 record and a 3.62 ERA.

The New York Yankees are free falling in the standings but the news for this game will most certainly surround Alex Rodriguez who at the time if writing this is scheduled to make his return. The Yankees are 4-6 in their last 10 games, 28-28 on the road this season, and they are 9.5 games back in the AL East. As a team the Yankees are hitting .240 with Robinson Cano hitting .288, Ichiro Suzuki hitting .275, and Brett Gardner hitting .272. The Yankees pitching staff has an ERA of 3.70 with the starters at 3.96 and the bullpen at 3.14. For game one against the White Sox the Yankees start Andy Pettitte who has lost his last two decisions. For the season Pettitte has allowed 130 hits and 56 earned runs while striking out 80 over 117.2 innings for a 7-8 record and a 4.28 ERA.
Chicago is 27-59 as an underdog, 16-45 in their last 61 games, and 1-4 in Quintana’s last five starts as a home underdog. New York is 5-1 against a left handed starter, 0-5 in game one of a series, and 1-4 in Pettitte’s last five road starts. New York is 2-5 in the last seven meetings of these two.
Expect this one to be a media circus but the Yankees can handle that and expect them to handle the Sox as well.
