Top 3 MLB Teams Most Affected By Suspensions
Suspensions have been dealt, so who is going to hurt the most after losing key players?
3. San Diego Padres- If you have watched the Padres play this year, you’d know that their engine starter is almost always Everth Cabrera. Right now the Padres shortstop leads the National League in stolen bases and is a key part of a Padres offense that doesn’t really have much pop to it. The Padres have been playing extremely well as of late and were looking ready to make a push for the wild card until this suspension was dealt. Now they must find a replacement for Cabrera and the recently acquired Ronny Cedeno looks to be the man for the job. Cedeno has less stolen bases in his entire career, (36) than Cabrera has this year (37).
2. Detroit Tigers- A lot of people may say the Tigers won’t be affected much by the loss of Jhonny Peralta because of the acquisition of Jose Iglesias, but that just won’t be the case. In losing Jhonny Peralta, the Tigers lose one of their clubhouse leaders as well as a player who’s having a phenomenal year so far. Iglesias started off the season tremendously, but lately he had been an offensive wasteland for the Boston Red Sox and that is why they deemed him expendable. Iglesias is going to have arguably a better lineup around him than in Boston, but is he going to be able to handle the pressure of being on a team locked in another close division race? The stats say that when the Rays started to pressure the Red Sox for first place, Iglesias suddenly disappeared from the plate. Peralta could be back for the playoffs, but he’ll be quite rusty when that time comes. This suspension may be just what the Cleveland Indians need to finally take control of the division.

1. Texas Rangers- Just when the Rangers were starting to turn it around and crank up their offensive intensity, they lose Nelson Cruz in the middle of their lineup. Cruz is having a big time year power wise and combined with Adrian Beltre, he provides one of the biggest power punches in the American League. The Rangers had been offensively abysmal before last week and without Cruz to make pitchers pitch to Beltre, the offense is going to take a big hit. Cruz is the RBI leader as well as the home run leader on a team that has been struggling to score runs, so how do they replace him? The only player that makes sense is David Murphy and unfortunately for the Rangers, Murphy is having a pretty abysmal season at the plate.
