The Houston Astros look to knock the visiting Boston Red Sox from their perch Wednesday.
Boston has taken over the top spot in the American League East over Tampa Bay and are looking like they are there to stay for now with wins in eight of eleven after out scoring Houston 15-10. There was no pitching in this one with Steven Wright allowing three runs in one inning, before Brandon Workman was lit up for six runs on nine hits and two walks over 4.2 frames. Even that wasn't a problem for the offense who racked up 15 hits and walked nine times. Jacoby Ellsbury and Jonny Gomes paced the attack with home runs and a combined seven RBI's. Boston sends Ryan Dempster to the bump versus Houston on Wednesday, hoping he can right the ship from recent struggles. Dempster is coming in off an 8-7 victory (ND) over Seattle in which he was charged with seven runs in six frames.

Houston has been in struggle mode since the opening week of the season and aside from a few short hot streaks, the struggling has not stopped. Following Tuesday's defeat, the Astros have dropped eight of eleven with last in the American League West calling their name. Not enough hitting and pitching on a consistent basis has been a major issue with the work on the mound squandering a great offensive effort. Jordan Lyles was tagged for eight runs with Dallas Keuchel and Jose Cisnero combining for seven more runs given up. The bats put up a good fight on eleven hits and four walks with producing home runs off the bats of Jake Elmore, Brett Wallace and Robie Grossman. Jarred Cosart makes his 5th career start against the Red Sox on Wednesday. Cosart has allowed a total of three runs in four outings but is just 1-0 with three no decisions because the Astros pen and offense have struggled.
Cosart looks like a decent arm and I initially thought Houston would be a nice dog. However, betting on the worse team in the game is a test of nerves and luck. I'm taking them but that's really bucking the odds...
